  • I teach circuit style group classes at the gym I work at. We all foam roll, do mobility drills, and push, pull, and squat properly or work towards it, as well as do strongman style conditioning circuits and finish off with yoga movements. There is absolutely no reason why a rank novice cannot do effective and proper exercise other than lack of education and skill from the trainer. Every single exercise in this video serves zero purpose other than burning the 300 odd kcals during the class.

  • @DMalenfant1 There are women who go below parallel with excellent form getting great results. Which kinda kills what Bill Pearl preaches and what reinforces what Rippetoe says about proper form giving results for either gender. The fact they ARE doing free weights gives them more reason to go exercise the form so they work the hamstrings as well as the quads in that chain. Practice makes perfect and if you aren't practicing great form, you will never get great results with the time you invest.

  • @newagepun I didn't say women can't do a full squat, I am just saying it is horrible for them because of their knees. Men don't have to worry about it as much because the bone from the hip to the knee is vertical unlike women who's hips are much wider but their knees are still underneath their bodies like men. Besides, full squats for women can overdevelop the gluteus medius resulting in a "square" butt rather than a nice round one, and I and most men would rather have a woman with a nice butt.

  • @DMalenfant1 full squats are better for the knees for EITHER gender due to the range of motion and making use of the hip drive which targets the key muscles of the posterior chain. There is less impact on the knees, thus a smaller chance for injury.

    It can overdevelop and if it does, use less weight and focus more on the form. Much if men don't want the T-rex legs, go easier on the weight.
