  • 20minutes to explain a lot of confusion, when u could have done a block cut it into the form and then soften edges and dropped in life program, also why so many lines into a simple brick walk through? the name, easy done by just graphting them into the brick matter.

  • I've been wondering about whether SketchUp can interface with 2nd Life. I'm disappointed that it doesn't very well. If you work only in Blender, can you upload your work easier?

Thanks for the video and for all your work and effort.

  • @DarkMoonDroid I only use SketchUp because I find it the fastest possible means of modeling the kind of stuff that I make. Modeling directly in blender would probably be easier and faster for a lot of people. Give it a try and see what you think!

  • Brilliant, thank you!

  • My object is made up of several meshes. it seems to only want to work on one part at a time rather then all parts even when the whole model is selected. in edit mode only one part (seemingly defined by where they were separated before i exploded in sketchup) of the selected model is shown in wireframe.

  • @FpsRF Try grouping and exploding each mesh separately. Keep in mind it can't triangulate if the faces are not connected! Since I'm not entirely clear on your problem that's the only advice I can give.

  • @neotoy Ok, thank you. my problem was that my pieces were separate and not actually linked to the main part of the model.

  • Hi, thanks for the video. But I have a problem with it - when I import the model to Blender, I have triangulated only one face. I did exactly what you did and still got only one triangulated face

This is what I mean: bit(dot)ly/vsVJEt

  • @JazzoidCZ I'll give you a tip with a little trick I learned. Keep in mind if there are groups or components they wont triangulate you need to explode them. First triple-left-click on your model: does the entire model get selected? If not then you need to make sure all the parts are connected. If it does select all then right click and 'make group' then right-click and 'explode'. This will remap the geometry. Now you should be able to triangulate!

  • @neotoy Thanks for your answer. :) Unfortunately, it's not working. It's still triangulating only one part of the object like I showed on a screenshot.

And yes, when i tripleclick the object, it selects entire model.

  • Excellent video! I had these issues with my very first 'advanced box' model last night, but didn't know why and was discourage with the high 'land impact' score. Now I know why because of the duplicate vertices, etc described in this video.

My next natural question would be "How to UV Map this model so I can texture it?"

    Great video, thumbs up.

  • After Triangulate Plugin in SketchUp 8.0, exporting to Collada with no menu options checked, even a simple box crashes Blender 2.60 either on import, attempt to select in 3D View, or attempt to 'select all types->Mesh'.

    So now I'm stumped.

  • @DarktownStudi0s I just uploaded a complimentary UV mapping & texturing video, since you mentioned a desire for one I thought I'd mention it. It is posted as a video response to this video.

  • I love this video, but I am stuck. I followed the instructions to the letter, using sketch-up 8, I create a model, then triangulate and then export.

I open blender, want to import Mesh, and it crashed every single time I do so. I am pulling my hair out!!

I tried importing collada files from Sketchup 7 (using rename method) and they DO import in blender but then: I cannot get into Edit mode.

Anyone know what might be wrong??? I am going crazy here!

  • @Benski1972 What version of blender are you using?

  • @neotoy Version 6.0 I also had the same issues with 5.9.

    Sketchup I use 8.0 with simple template-meters

  • @Benski1972 What??? The most recent version of Blender is 2.60a. I strongly suggest you use the current version. I had lots of trouble with earlier versions of blender.

As for your SU7 import, trying hitting the "A" a few times until nothing is selected, then right-click on your model. Once it is selected you should be able to go into edit mode.

Hang in there. It can be hard sometimes, I know.

  • @neotoy I made an error, I indeed have 2.60, and before 2.59. Your tips sure made me able to get into edit mode now, with the su7 models.

    Still trying with su8 though.

  • You need payment info on file - that means Linden Lab needs to have your creditcard information / paypal information - to make sure they can verify who you are in real life if needed.

You also need to take the intellectual-property-tutorial/quiz, which you can do from the SL website. Once these things are in place, you can upload mesh into Second Life.

  • Could you be more clear as to wear you get the "triangulateFaces.rb" file. Your link takes me to a 6 page forum that is not at all helpful.

  • @JWPrattKS You can download the plugin from that page, however you need to join the forum. I chose that link because it's the original source, posted by the plugin's creator. Otherwise just Google it bro, there are other downloads out there.

  • Amazing explanation and thanks for sharing. I just have one question you have to pay to be able to use the model upload? I mean sure you have to pay for the upload itself, but you have to be a member?

Payment Information: No payment information on file.

    My Payment Info

Mesh IP Tutorial: You must first complete the Mesh IP Tutorial before you can upload mesh objects.

Go to the Mesh IP Tutorial

  • @PauloJAQueiroz I don't know if you have to be a member or not, as long as you have enough lindens to cover the upload fee, I do know that you do not need to be a premium subscriber, but you may need to have payment info on file. Also as noted you have to complete the mesh ip tutorial.

  • @neotoy I do have lindens i have around 6k but it still does not let me upload the item.. Weird... i need to figure this out. thanks for your answer

  • Congrats for the video! Great stuff well explained! Thanks a lot sharing your knowledge!

  • @workfornuts Thanks.
