This was not a meteor but the remnant of a satellite re-entering earth's atmosphere over the area at about the same time the meteor shower took place. I can't remember the satellite but it was mistaken for a meteor. Meteors are moving at 20-40 times faster than a re-entering shuttle or disintegrating satellite.

Meteors do come from constellations, it´s called the radiant... they dont really come from the constellation... from earths view is the place where they enter atmosphere, visually, and the constellation quadrantis is not that it is extinct, it just was renamed to Bootes, this is a Bolide or Fireball and its quite normal in astronomy. This one is the remanent of comet C/1490 Y1. this shower happens all years froms january first to 5, and doesnt always garantee bolides.
they need to take high school science again, even the meteorologist didnt know that when meteors get pulled into earths atmosphere via gravitational pull, they are moving at such a velocity they begin to heat up and break apart

Yeah, this is more indicative of a satellite breaking up. The higher density parts of the satellite are ahead of the bulkier, less dense parts in that descent.

The news lady is alot closer to being right than half of you on here. It wasn't a meteor...it was actually a russian sattellite that had come out of orbit and burnt up in the atmosphere across Colorado. I saw that exact event from my front yard in Grand Junction when it happened.

booster rocket re-entering the atmosphere over Colorado and Wyoming,
according to NORAD and the U.S. Northern Command ...
NORAD identified the rocket as an SL-4 used to launch a French space telescope in December.

No one at this news station recognized that this stream of debris looked IDENTICAL to the shuttle Columbia's breakup on reentry? If anyone had, that should have given a TRUE reporter pause that this might be a man-made event.
After a little Googling, I determined that the French commissioned a Russian rocket to launch a space telescope for them in December 2006. This is the rocket booster's reentry weeks later.

Yeah, this is more indicative of a satellite breaking up. The higher density parts of the satellite are ahead of the bulkier, less dense parts in that descent.
