There was a long standing agreement between the two countries regading Hong Kong. No such agreement exists with the Falklands.

The islands were NEVER Argentinian. They were formerly (and formally) part of the Spanish Empire. Argentina was created by Spain, but was aministratively separate from what the Spanish Empire administrators called the 'Malvinas'. Spain relinquished its claim to both Argentina AND to the separate Spanish possessions of the Malvinas. So, for Argentina to retrospectively claim that the formerly Spanish Malvinas were ever 'Argentinian' is completely absurd!
I don't doubt that the Falklands are British; the people who live there consider themselves British, not Argentinian. However, what people forget is that the invasion of the Falkland islands was Thatcher's fault. She removed defensive naval ships from that area, even when the Royal Navy protested. She sent off all the wrong messages to Argentina and they eventually invaded. Britain won, yet it was her fault that it ever happened.
Those islands were initially Argentinian. In the early 19th century, they were occupied by some British and there have been British residents there ever since. Argentina failed to make firm actions for their claim at the time and they never bothered to make any firm claims ever since. If a country does not make a territorial claim on her remote part and leaves it for so long, like 100 years, the international convention assumes renouncement of claims. They are now assumed to be British.

@baillie67 Britain had Hong Kong on a 200 year lease from China and about 5 years before the hand over it was laid out that the UK would return Hong Kong to China and China would alow Hong Kong to retain some autonomy over how it is run. There was a long standing agreement between the two countries regading Hong Kong. No such agreement exists with the Falklands.

@baillie67 Hold on you seem to of mis-interpretated what I said. I am refering to Britains power in 1980's, in which case Britain was probably worth 10 China's in this period. Today obviously that is not the case, and on a regional basis China would crush Britain. Though, we were supposed to of crushed the Taliban by now. In anycase, in 1980, Britain was very strong by todays stanards, and Chinas economy did match Britain for another 25 years, and even now, its government budget is lower.

And Argentina did not start the war, we did because they were taking our island; I would rather it be an Argentinian island than have people who have no interest in war dying.

The islands were NEVER Argentinian. They were formerly (and formally) part of the Spanish Empire. Argentina was created by Spain, but was aministratively separate from what the Spanish Empire administrators called the 'Malvinas'. Spain relinquished its claim to both Argentina AND to the separate Spanish possessions of the Malvinas. So, for Argentina to retrospectively claim that the formerly Spanish Malvinas were ever 'Argentinian' is completely absurd!

I don't doubt that the Falklands are British; the people who live there consider themselves British, not Argentinian. However, what people forget is that the invasion of the Falkland islands was Thatcher's fault. She removed defensive naval ships from that area, even when the Royal Navy protested. She sent off all the wrong messages to Argentina and they eventually invaded. Britain won, yet it was her fault that it ever happened.

Those islands were initially Argentinian. In the early 19th century, they were occupied by some British and there have been British residents there ever since. Argentina failed to make firm actions for their claim at the time and they never bothered to make any firm claims ever since. If a country does not make a territorial claim on her remote part and leaves it for so long, like 100 years, the international convention assumes renouncement of claims. They are now assumed to be British.

If we are allegedly fighting for the preservation of our country and what we believe in, then we should treat our own people, and the people who literally put their necks on the line appropriately and not discard them like useless tools when they no longer serve a military purpose.

Our Health and benefits system is something to be proud of, although the last two governments have done their best to destroy it along with massive immigration.

As a non-British person, I can tell you she reestablished that nation's standing to an extent.
They needed a kick and she gave it. Sarkozy has pledged to do the same for France, with no luck so far.
That having been said, she will always be a controversial figure. Those who have to make tough decisions always are.
In a sense she was used politically by the Tory/British establishment, as a new element who was needed to revitalise the party/country.

The Malvinas were French until he ceded sovereignty to Spain. In 1816 these islands were inherited from Spain to Argentina, until in 1833, invading by UK. We want peace but we can not allow injustice and that part of our land is invaded by England. We will continue to call ourselves. Malvinas are Argentinas.
