@CalifornianSoul he doesn't sing in this song. the murphys have songs where one or some of the members weren't in the original recording so they just take a quick break in the back or something before coming out to sing the next song. It's a smart way to take a breather in between sets too haha
@dropkickmcclung I was there on the 17th, as I am almost every year. No Bruce was a bit of a disappointment, especially when the rumors were swirling that he was gonna be at one of the weekend's shows. You gotta figure if there's one show he has to play, it's the one that's actually on St. Patrick's Day. Alas, it was no to be.
Oh, and I absolutely hate how "Yankees suck" has been added to the "Lets go Murphys" chant. And no, I'm not a Yankees fan. I'm not a baseball fan at all, in fact. I'm a Dropkick fan that doesn't want to hear bickering about sports when I go to a damn show of theirs. Let's here more "Never Alone" and less "Tessie".
@TrojanChris1990 Sorry man this is a proud Bostian-Irish band that came from nothing, you will hear "Yankees suck" and our Red Sox chants as long as you listen to DKM, but I can see how someone who doesn't care for sports would get annoyed but thats New England Sports,work..and Sports and we might be know for the metalcore music scene ..maybe
@StealYaMind I know my Dropkick, man. And I know for certain that you wouldn't hear meathead douchebags ruining their classic chant back in the old days. DKM has written 5 sports-related songs, tops. And they have 7 albums full of much better shit than "Tessie". The band themselves would have sold out and gone completely sports if this was the ONLY thing they wanted to be known for...but they didn't.
@StealYaMind Part II: Of course if you are from Boston you are going to be a sports fan. But every new collar-popping asshole that comes to their shows thinks this is what they are ALL about. And it ruins the atmosphere of the show, honestly. For example, I've known people in the past few years question their support of both unions and the skinhead subculture. And if they aren't fully aware of their support of both of those (especially unions), they know nothing about DKM and should fuck off.
@StealYaMind I even knew a guy who asked me a few years ago (when "Meanest" was released): "Dude, why did they get all serious all of the sudden". Needless to say this guy left the conversation with a black eye. LOL.
@TrojanChris1990 I got over all that..there lame A few yrs bk though a tender did say F**K the Red Sox and a dear friend had passed and I made this big loud mouth shut up I took my 3 shots of Jose and my friends pulled me out of this little dive bar.. Chances are if your in the suburbs and they dress like that you can hit em all day but I dont care for jail, I keep my hat bkwrds most times
@StealYaMind I think what we can both agree on is that the essence of DKM isn't sports, but the working class patriotic background they came from. "Tessie" and "Shipping up to Boston" will never be as good as "Heroes from our Past" and "Homeward Bound".
Oh and I'm not completely anti-sport, as I'm an absolute fanatic when it comes to football (the football you actually play with your feet, that is). Can't wait for SA to get our team next year!
@TrojanChris1990 I knew that they are all huge New England sports fans, you can look at the kickdrum and see the Bruins logo, but if this song is better than that one its all opinion, the cool thing is its the same band and the music is all amazing. I think they work with Bruce because he has the same attitude for his music the working class who keep getting played to the left etc and that is rad, when I heard about that for the new album I got excited and that dont happen for me n music anymore
@StealYaMind Well not ALL of em are huge sports fans (Al says he doesn't care in several interviews), but yeah there is no getting around Ken's Beantown pride, which of course includes the sports and whatnot. I'm just saying, as someone who works my ass off each and every day to support my widowed mother and younger bro, that the working class anthems have a lot more meaning than sports (which I consider trivial next to the plight of the American worker).
@TrojanChris1990 I respect it that you work, as I do for my mine. All of my family is in Mass. and I visit when I can and its a small place, not everyone can afford sox tickets every week or pats, celts, bruins etc Its a tough tough place to live alone let alone with family, so the old saying in football the 12th man they are that for the Patriots and teams,we just take our sports really serious because they will be there unlike our jobs and other sure things etc. Its hard everywhere, glad DKM play
@StealYaMind Nothing wrong with being super into sports, I love certain sports (soccer and basketball namely). I guess my opinion of DKM fandom is "rabid or nothing", so I've never been down for those who show up to see a band play one song (I mean, how "working class" can these fans be if they easily shell out 30 bucks and they only dig "Shipping up to Boston"? I damn near starve myself to get DKM tickets when they come to San Antonio!)
@TrojanChris1990 Just remember everyone who is handed everything does not enjoy it or appreciate it, they will break long before a man or woman that works everyday to survive and they will come to what is considered the lower class for help after the church is tired of there redundant complaints. If someone wants to pay 1k a ticket for DKM ticket for one song, imo great I wanna see my type of people get paid, they were not always well known and well off and they have not forgotten it :)
@TrojanChris1990 That doesn't mean I don't love their new stuff, cause I do. If they went completely sports based after the success of Tessie, I would have lost interest, but instead released "Meanest of TImes" and "Going out in Style" (the latter I was excited for because my dad had passed a year earlier and the theme hit home with me). None of those albums have songs based on sports (yes, "Hang em High" was adopted by the Bruins, but it wasn't written for em).
trojanchris1990 wen your from new england u gunna talk about sports espetially how the yankees suck got to get used to it
