No one is saying that GM trucks are better than Ford.
What I am saying though is that based on the logic that more wheels turning at the same rate is better for a truck than less wheels turning at the same rate.... well obviously then.. the GM trucks have an advantage over their competition.
Man can build computers, spaceships, skyscrapers.. so many amazing things.
why is ANYONE confused or even arguing about this video?
GM does not build monster trucks or do they make ANY claims that there trucks are to be marketed as serious off road trucks. The g80 DOES NOT explode for everyday drivers like you or me OR guys doing what is done in this video.
The fact is this... the G80 diff just provides an extra wheel to drive.
so in a 2WD truck... it makes the truck drive with 2 wheels instead of 1
in a 4x4 it makes the truck drive with 3 wheels instead of 2
GM offers a locking diff on EVERY truck they make = win
Hey guys, the "4wd" ford has stainless rocker panels whereas the "2wd" ford does not. There are 2 different fords in this video and all the trucks hit the ditch at about the same speed and all come to a stop. The first ford is obviously in 2wd and the second is clearly in 4. but they are different trucks, they should have just grabbed ones with different paint.
@CrashJSTest Same with me. Every 4wd I've ever had stayed in 4wd most of the time except for the '78 Jeep Wagoneer I had. It had Quadra-Trac fulltime 4wd.
G80. The G stands for grenade. Those things sound like a frickin bomb going off when they lock and they give one hell of a shock to the drivetrain. Last one that locked on me never unlocked.
@skstibi Thanks for your post. You are yet another person with personal experience of how the torque spike (shock load) causes the G80 to shatter when it locks.
The G80 is certainly not a good choice for hardcore off-road use.
@racehonda9 Thanks for telling the truth about the G80. GM will never tell the whole truth about how the torque spike (shock load) from when the G80 locks can cause it to shatter, especially in the half- ton 8.5"/8.6" 10 bolt rear. Even in the 3/4 and 1 tone rears, the G80 can shatter.
@08SilveradoLT And GM quit installing the 12 bolt around 1980. That was before they started offering the G80 in civilian trucks, so it's unlikely that 12 bolts had G80s.
When I was in the Air National Guard, we had 1984-85 M1008 CUCV Chevy trucks that had the 14 bolt and was rated at 1 1/4 tons with single rear wheels (1 1/2 ton with duals). These were equipped with Detroit Lockers in the rear. If the G80 is as strong as you think, why was the M1008 equipped with the Detroit instead of G80?
Has anyone noticed how the so-called 2wd Ford is the same color, has the same wheels, and appears to have the same license plate as the so-called 4wd Ford?
And how the 4wd Ford never seemed to spin any tires, as if the driver was trying to not give it enough throttle to move?
And if you look closely as the supposedly 2wd Ford first approaches the ditch (while you can still see the announcer), you can barely see the 4x4 insignia just in front of the passenger side tail light. It's blurry, but it is there.
So why would GM need to lie and call a 4wd Ford a 2wd when they could have easily found a 2wd Ford to use?
@WKHalford No shit sherlock and thank you captain obvious they couldnt use an actual 2wd doesnt sit high enough they would rip the front bumper right off.........some people should just not comment on stuff like this and plus seeing as the truck was 4wd not an actual 2wd it would have put the truck at an advantage rather than a disadvantage in this test....... *FACE PALM*
@08SilveradoLT I've seen pics online and in the mags of G80s that shattered due to shock load from the locking action, even the 14 bolt version. In fact, the G80 is the weakest part of a G80 equipped 14 bolt. All it takes is one wheel to have enough traction to generate enough torque to cause enough shock load (torque spike).
The Detroit is NOT the same, it doesn't require wheelspin to lock. The Detroit will not allow engine power to spin one wheel faster than the ring gear or the other wheel.
@peanutbutterandjammy "Posi" is short for Positraction, which is a trademark name of a certain brand of limited slip differential. "Posi" is just another multiplate clutch-type limited slip. Although I don't like the G80, at least it will totally lock. Every clutch-type limited slip (including "posi") will eventually give if there's enough torque to make the clutches slip. So why are you so down on the G80, yet see nothing wrong with a "posi"? A Detroit, ARB, etc. is better than a "posi".
@WKHalford way to zero in on only the word posi, whilst completely ignoring the spool. get a life, i hate know it all wanna be "mechanics". take your mechanical knowitallism and shove it.
@peanutbutterandjammy Okay, so now I'll talk about a spool. Why would I, or anyone with any sense, want a spool on a daily driver? And sense a spool is AFTERMARKET ONLY and this video is about FACTORY STOCK vehicles with FACTORY STOCK differentials, why is a spool even relevant to the discussion?
And it's obvious by my knowledge that I'm not a "wanna be" mechanic. And I've installed enough aftermarket lockers and rebuilt enough clutch-type factory limited slips to prove you wrong there.
@peanutbutterandjammy People that don't know much respond like you do. They don't have FACTS to back up what they say, so they make verbal attacks and call names, just like you did to me and in your first post.
Anyone with knowledge about differentials knows "posi" is nothing but a slang term for a limited slip differential and that a limited slip differential doesn't transfer torque as solidly as a locker (including the G80). But YOU didn't know that, so you attack someone that does know.
listen imma chevy guy through and through.. but why did the ford and dodge hit the brakes. i mean come on now. u could have at leasted pulled the bulbs out
Where's the video about where you have one tire spinning in the snow , then a bang and the diff engages and the other one starts to turn too and they both dig holes and you're stuck for sure ? Also , the camera man is either really brave or really naive to stand that close to a Gov - lock being "tested" .
Although I know a limited slip (LS) doesn't transfer torque to the tire with the traction as well as a locker, did anyone even notice that he just mentioned LS diffs instead of actually comparing them in the video?
Is it because that ditch wasn't quite enough to stop a LS equipped vehicle? Is it because actually comparing a LS wouldn't have supported their biased monologue?
At least a limited slip isn't going to break as it transfers torque because it doesn't have a sudden shock load.
Fact #1: Shock load from locking while there is a 100 RPM difference can break the diff. I've done it while experimenting with a 3/4 ton with a 9 1/2" rear. It's common knowledge that the G80 can shatter/strip while locking. Read the 4wd magazines and do the online research.
Fact #2 happened when the diff locked. The truck shot forward, then when I let off the gas, the diff unlocked and the truck rolled backward.
There are 2 problems with the GM locker featured in the video.
(1) Being it requires wheelspin to lock, when it locks it can cause a shock load (torque spike) that can cause damage. The most common damage is the differential internals break.
(2) The amount of wheelspin required to lock might be so much that the differential locking can cause the truck to move too suddenly. This can be a problem in technical situations where finesse is important, such as rock crawling.
You just can't beat an Australian ARB Air Locker for absolute traction control, I'm sure ARB has a Nth American manufacturing plant making product for your locally made rigs.
@subinct I assume you are saying all FACTORY offered lockers are reactive?
If so, that is NOT true. My '06 Tacoma TRD 4wd has a selectable rear locker. Nissan, Ford, and Dodge have them too. In fact, Dodge now has both rear AND front selectable lockers. And the Wrangler Rubicon has had front/rear selectable lockers for several years.
And then there various AUTOMATIC lockers that aren't reactive (don't require wheelspin). The Detroit Locker, Lock Right, No Slip, Aussie Locker are examples.
Its called get a Ford Raptor... or wait until the new motors come out in the F150 which will then see a few (more than the FX4) with E-lockers in them. Nuff said.
@ronmann606 the easiest way to see if you have a g80 is look at the info sticker in your glove box. it should be on the inside of the glove box door and has all kinds of letter/number combos. look for the code "G80". if you see this, you have it. the G80 can not be activated with a electronic system with a button because its mechanical. all it takes is a little loss in traction and then it will lock up with a little bump.
I love how the 4X4 F-150, and the 4x4 Dodge 2500 could have gotten out had the driver not hit the brakes. I'm a Chevy/GMC man all day long, and agree that the G80 is amazing, but don't hit the brakes on the other trucks just to say they can't get out. Gives a false impression that the other trucks are horrible.
@dustinmcclelland15 i noticed that as well. im also a GM guy, but as soon as those trucks got traction to pull out the hit the breaks like you said to stop them.
its easy to watch this and think its biased because of how easily the chevy made it, but thats just because it works so damn well.
Ive got one in my chevy, and i love it. daily driving I get one wheel but almost immediately when it looses traction you can feel that diff slammin together and it makes me smile lol
It doesnt matter if it was starting to make it out or not. fact of the matter is locking diffs are the best things to have in a tight spot. All of these trucks shown have their own version of a locking diff available but weren't used in the video. this was a marketing video for the chevy locking diff. A better video would've been each truck with a locking diff and then see which truck does the best.
@javojjaaf not really, ford still number one selling truck, and well it has been for the past 33 years, so this cheesy commercials dont really work, it only shows the desperation of a failing company and product.
@sancho721 oh, the commercial is cheesy for sure....but the diff works, and works good. ive had open, and limited slip and i will never buy another truck without the g80 because its never failed me. chevy is also right behind ford in sales, and as i recall ford was up for bankruptcy along with gm and Chrysler right??? i dont mind a ford truck, untill i have to do repairs on one and have to buy a special tool for everything. like the fuel filter, need a special tool.
@javojjaaf oh yeah the differencial does work, i tought u were talking about the commercial, that it work convinving people to buy chevy, and yes ford was close to bankrupt for a lil while but they came out on their own, and thats what matters. and i have bever had to buy special tools for repairs... and well i have a new vehicle, and my dad's '92 we didnt need anything speciall, and he still has that truck
@sancho721 trust me, you need a special tool to remove the fuel filter...check, i had to buy one for my step dads 96'. you need one for the raido, unless your skilled with a close hanger. also, they had an issue with the spark plugs breaking off in the heads on early 2000 models which required a $100 plus tool to get the threads out, or you payed the dealer $600+ to do it for ya. i been a Dodge tech for ten years and have had to do repair work on lots of different makes because of trade in's
@ 0:38 the ford 4wd "is in a similar situation" but is still pulling through and about to make it up and hits the brakes. hmm am i seeing a chevy advertisement or what?
@xXShadowRejectsXx the chevy is using an extended cab while the ford is using supercrew and dodge is using megacab. plus, what ford 2wd truck driver doesn't know that the limited-slip diff won't lock in at high speeds, just wear it out
Who in the fuck would take their truck at an angle like that? lol and Chevy must pay G80 to use their Silverados they're the only truck that makes it over.
Does anyone know if the g80 is supposed to make a kind of grinding noise as it is locking. My suburban always locks and has gotten me through some places in two that my old 4x4 dodge would have been questionable on, but I'm afraid it may blow up if it does have aproblem. best stock lock out besides the tacomas selectable in my opinion though.
@deerslayer25 im not sure about the g80 making that kind of noise, but i know limited slip clutches will do that if the fluid is changed and the conditioner is not added. look at your data sticker in your glove box and see if it says g80, if it dont you dont have it. im not saying you dont know your truck, but limited slips can trick us some times.
@javojjaaf I can tell you it's not a good noise because since my post it has stopped working entirely which I found out halfway through portaging a drainage ditch to put up a tree stand. Luckily my buddy was close with his jeep unlim. and pulled me out, powertrax coming soon...thanks
@deerslayer25 that sucks! so you lost all you extra traction? limited slip is known to burn up the clutches if you give it lots of hell trying to get out, the clutches are just like any other clutch or break type material and wears out over time. have you had a chance to check your data sticker? just curious, i dont know the code for the other diffs. you can also use this web sight to see everything your truck has...
Thats it i've shown you the differences, rady rady ra, full of shit mate, your not comparing apples with apples, dont put the brakes on in any of the first few vehicles and they would of done it no Wucking Furries at all i recon.
@MustangsMan i could to...going faster than they were. stop that bronco in the middle with the tire off the ground and that thing is not going anywhere.
When it does lock it will try to kick the rear around because the tires aren't able to spin at different speeds so it will want to walk around a little. You have to take it easy around corners with light throttle or you will spin better than not moving at all though
it just feels like the whole rear end is going to fly out when it locks up,but that is normal, right? and it did it again when i pulled off on the side of the road and spun the wheel to turn around and when it hit the pavement it started locking(note: i was in 2wd)
notice how when the trucks were about to get out the driver hit the brake instead of the gas, any of those 4x4 trucks could have made it with just giving it more gas.
Rigged to fail in this situation. That does not mean the G80 won't work.
It just means they chose a piss poor way to prove their point. Who is going to get to the worst point of traction and stop so they can fail? Not me. Anyone with a brain can see a problem coming and try to scoot through or rock the vehicle to good footing.
Don't hit the breaks to stop progress just to make look like a fail.
Piss poor proof here. Show me some real life test that proves it's worth.
That's it hell!!... that's the biggest bull shit video I've seen.. The 4x4 ford and toyota could have made it but you could see them putting on the brakes to keep them in the ditch. Plus the G80 didn't go into it as a steep of an angle as the others.
Is this an instructional video on how to destroy your Gov Loc? "A little power...BOOM!" LOL. Leave it to GM to buy $12 diffirentials, and make fake promotional videos for idiots who think they bought a better truck.
@DonJhonson huh? i got this diff in my truck and never had it go "boom" like you think it will. eaton makes diff for almost every manufacture, so dont be surprised if you have one of their products. also, im almost positive it cost more than $12....but just a guess.........
I am a fan of selectable lockers, this is so staged! did you notice the brake lights! Chev's locker only works at low speed and it is more like a true track than a real locker. Are we all as stupid as they think! The chev is not a superior truck, check out truck bed bounce and see the chev's frame flex everywhere.
In technical terms please tell us all where I stated anything wrong! Stick to the facts.Your emotions are clouding your intellect, If I were to buy a 1/2 ton it would be Ford hands down and a 3/4 Dodge Power Wagon and one ton It would be Dodge by a long shot, I am open to what ever performs the best.
@adsabine1 its nothing like the true track my friend. may want to do some research so you understand who both work. the g80 is very much like a "real" locker.
@javojjaaf You are right, the true track is always on, it allows some slip, no clutches. the chevs locker turns off after it hits a sertain speed, that would then make it a open diff at speed, that would be good on the HWY, not off road, selectable lockers still rule this one.
@adsabine1 right, and selectable is the better choice if your making an install for sure. the true track is something else huh? all them crazy gears, but works well.
Any 4wd off road truck has three (center differential & front and rear axle differentials) manually and independently lockable differentials so i presumme that none of the cars shown above had the diffenrential locked.
@Triple88a and it works great. i bought my 98 z71 new and to this day i have never had a problem with it, and its seen some bad times. the pin holds up very well, its not as weak or as cheap as you think. eaton makes very good diffs, just like the true track you would find in a titan.
@Triple88a im running 285/75/16 and you can check the video on my page of my demo of the diff in action. i didnt know i had it till this year so i wanted to test it, but its been tested many times in 12 years for sure. now i never said it would hold up to some crazy big tires or hard core stuff, but it does great for a every day and play truck.
you know why thats bull shit cause if you look at the angle all the other trucks hit the ramp it makes it alot more challenging, but if you see the way the silvi's hit it they go almost straight across the ditch making it alot easier for even two tires to get the best of traction whether you have diff. lock or four wheel drive or not...although it would help alot more.
this was done when the chevy was new...ask that "locking" (as advertised by GM) G80 to do that for the life of the truck and ur asking a question that diff cant do
the 1500 series trucks have the infamous 10bolt 8.75 inch rear. i may be a ford guy but i know quite a few chevy guys who HATE their 10bolt...14bolt is about as tough as they come next to a dana 60
@gman4dx266 you know you dont need the additive in a g80, because it dont have clutches...its mechanical. that additive is for limited slips clutch packs. g80 only require regular gear oil. trust me, ive been a GM tech for 10 yeas and done LOTS of diff fluid changes.
why didnt they use a new tundra 4x4 in this video only in their 2wd test. Probably because they know about the a-trac system that the new tundra is equiped with. my tundra can move with only one wheel on the ground. dont believe me try it. I'll be the first to say lockers are great for the off road toy but They blow in the rain.
try limited slip (im assuming is what your tundra is equipped with) while towing a trailer it doesnt work because limited slip provides the tire with resistance, some power not alot but it is usually enough power (not always) to move the truck it does not lock the axle 100% which is why manual lockers would be a a better choice even over auto lockers like chevy has (as they lock and unlock while on pavement and take a bit of getting used to)
true that is why i am waiting for the arb air lockers for my tundra. I love lockers but no way do i want an auto locker on my daily driver.on a toy sure. by the way i tow loaded dump trailers 9000lb +/- to the dump. even with a locker you can and will get stuck. That is why i bought a 4wd. much better control in the mud while backing up a loaded trailer.
again manual lockers dude not auto lockers yea ur right dude auto lockers on a daily drive suck but i would take manual lockers over tundras limited slip any day
and yet another sales gimmick as soon as the trucks started moving the hit the brakes,if you think were dumb enough to not see the brake lights go on your outta luck.
LOL, yes they did hit the brakes as soon as the trucks did start to move. haha"oh shit its startin to move. HIT THE BRAKES QUICK before anyone notices"
It is not rigged you retards, learn how differentials work. Open and LS diffs WILL slip when you take weight off of the tires, the tire with the LEAST traction will get power. A locker fixes this by physically locking the axles together so the one tire that DOES have traction gets power.
So whats up with teh brakes? You didnt answer or attempt to change our minds about the brakes. Its rigger cause all the ''non locked'' trucks try to go and they hit the brakes.......explain? please
Agree the 4x4's got traction then they hit the brakes and went in reverse. Locking diff is definitely better once you get really off roading but that little ditch all 4x4's can get through.
The locking differential design was modified in mid-1986 to include a load-limiting feature to reduce the chance of breaking an axle shaft under "abusive driving conditions". The number of tangs on the energizing disc in the left-hand clutch pack was reduced allowing these tangs to shear in the event of a high-torque engagement of the differential locking mechanism.
IOW Don't drive like a stupid hick and these things will last forever.
Actually, the g80 is quite possibly the strongest locking diff. on the market. It is stronger than the Detroit locker, and is used in applications ranging from GM trucks, to off road and drag racing.
lol... clearly you have never owned a chevy w/ a locker... cause they lock up a lot on a daily drive... and they are designed to lock up... trust me mine locks up on me at least twice a day... and i wouldnt notice it but because i know about the locker i do notice it... and i admire it...
LOL, my cuz Had one for 2 Weeks... LOL, bitch ass the G80 is weak!! Better off getting lockers.. Really easy to break.. Shit bitch my cuz knows he has a 6,000 bill for break'n the bitch...
BIASED much???

Extremeineveryway 1 year ago
Although I know a limited slip (LS) doesn't transfer torque to the tire with the traction as well as a locker, did anyone even notice that he just mentioned LS diffs instead of actually comparing them in the video?
Is it because that ditch wasn't quite enough to stop a LS equipped vehicle? Is it because actually comparing a LS wouldn't have supported their biased monologue?
At least a limited slip isn't going to break as it transfers torque because it doesn't have a sudden shock load.
WKHalford 1 year ago
@08SilveradoLT That doesn't change the FACTS.
READ AGAIN: I've had both happen.
WKHalford 1 year ago
There are 2 problems with the GM locker featured in the video.
(1) Being it requires wheelspin to lock, when it locks it can cause a shock load (torque spike) that can cause damage. The most common damage is the differential internals break.
(2) The amount of wheelspin required to lock might be so much that the differential locking can cause the truck to move too suddenly. This can be a problem in technical situations where finesse is important, such as rock crawling.
I've had both happen.

I am a big GM Fan so don't start.
All the lockers available in the market today are Reactive Lockers.
i.e. YOU HAVE TO SLIP, before it locks. Even in 4wd low.
In a lot of situations, especially soft mud, that initial slipping is enough to get royally stuck.
A much better system would be a pro active locker, when you can lock ahead of time, before the sticky situation. eg the ARB air locker.

@subinct or you could have an F150 FX4 that doesnt even slip, you can just hit a button and its fully locked with no spin at all

@RidX4Ricers no they have electricaly activated VACUME lockers.
trkklr77 1 year ago
@subinct I assume you are saying all FACTORY offered lockers are reactive?
If so, that is NOT true. My '06 Tacoma TRD 4wd has a selectable rear locker. Nissan, Ford, and Dodge have them too. In fact, Dodge now has both rear AND front selectable lockers. And the Wrangler Rubicon has had front/rear selectable lockers for several years.
And then there various AUTOMATIC lockers that aren't reactive (don't require wheelspin). The Detroit Locker, Lock Right, No Slip, Aussie Locker are examples.
WKHalford 1 year ago
Its called get a Ford Raptor... or wait until the new motors come out in the F150 which will then see a few (more than the FX4) with E-lockers in them. Nuff said.

Anyone know if the canyon has this diff and can you lock it with a button on the dash?
ronmann606 1 year ago
@ronmann606 the easiest way to see if you have a g80 is look at the info sticker in your glove box. it should be on the inside of the glove box door and has all kinds of letter/number combos. look for the code "G80". if you see this, you have it. the G80 can not be activated with a electronic system with a button because its mechanical. all it takes is a little loss in traction and then it will lock up with a little bump.
javojjaaf 1 year ago
I love how the 4X4 F-150, and the 4x4 Dodge 2500 could have gotten out had the driver not hit the brakes. I'm a Chevy/GMC man all day long, and agree that the G80 is amazing, but don't hit the brakes on the other trucks just to say they can't get out. Gives a false impression that the other trucks are horrible.

dan0champ 1 year ago
It doesnt matter if it was starting to make it out or not. fact of the matter is locking diffs are the best things to have in a tight spot. All of these trucks shown have their own version of a locking diff available but weren't used in the video. this was a marketing video for the chevy locking diff. A better video would've been each truck with a locking diff and then see which truck does the best.

sancho721 1 year ago
@sancho721 oh, the commercial is cheesy for sure....but the diff works, and works good. ive had open, and limited slip and i will never buy another truck without the g80 because its never failed me. chevy is also right behind ford in sales, and as i recall ford was up for bankruptcy along with gm and Chrysler right??? i dont mind a ford truck, untill i have to do repairs on one and have to buy a special tool for everything. like the fuel filter, need a special tool.
javojjaaf 1 year ago
@javojjaaf oh yeah the differencial does work, i tought u were talking about the commercial, that it work convinving people to buy chevy, and yes ford was close to bankrupt for a lil while but they came out on their own, and thats what matters. and i have bever had to buy special tools for repairs... and well i have a new vehicle, and my dad's '92 we didnt need anything speciall, and he still has that truck
sancho721 1 year ago
@sancho721 trust me, you need a special tool to remove the fuel filter...check, i had to buy one for my step dads 96'. you need one for the raido, unless your skilled with a close hanger. also, they had an issue with the spark plugs breaking off in the heads on early 2000 models which required a $100 plus tool to get the threads out, or you payed the dealer $600+ to do it for ya. i been a Dodge tech for ten years and have had to do repair work on lots of different makes because of trade in's

Does anyone know if the g80 is supposed to make a kind of grinding noise as it is locking. My suburban always locks and has gotten me through some places in two that my old 4x4 dodge would have been questionable on, but I'm afraid it may blow up if it does have aproblem. best stock lock out besides the tacomas selectable in my opinion though.
deerslayer25 2 years ago
@deerslayer25 im not sure about the g80 making that kind of noise, but i know limited slip clutches will do that if the fluid is changed and the conditioner is not added. look at your data sticker in your glove box and see if it says g80, if it dont you dont have it. im not saying you dont know your truck, but limited slips can trick us some times.
javojjaaf 1 year ago
@javojjaaf I can tell you it's not a good noise because since my post it has stopped working entirely which I found out halfway through portaging a drainage ditch to put up a tree stand. Luckily my buddy was close with his jeep unlim. and pulled me out, powertrax coming soon...thanks
deerslayer25 1 year ago
@deerslayer25 that sucks! so you lost all you extra traction? limited slip is known to burn up the clutches if you give it lots of hell trying to get out, the clutches are just like any other clutch or break type material and wears out over time. have you had a chance to check your data sticker? just curious, i dont know the code for the other diffs. you can also use this web sight to see everything your truck has...

i out my 01 Z71 in 4wd and i crossed some wet pavement and that bitch started locking up and it kinda scared me-anyone else had this happen?
XxClemsonTigersXx 2 years ago
When it does lock it will try to kick the rear around because the tires aren't able to spin at different speeds so it will want to walk around a little. You have to take it easy around corners with light throttle or you will spin better than not moving at all though
deerslayer25 2 years ago
it just feels like the whole rear end is going to fly out when it locks up,but that is normal, right? and it did it again when i pulled off on the side of the road and spun the wheel to turn around and when it hit the pavement it started locking(note: i was in 2wd)

Johnnyboy200406 2 years ago
Rigged to fail in this situation. That does not mean the G80 won't work.
It just means they chose a piss poor way to prove their point. Who is going to get to the worst point of traction and stop so they can fail? Not me. Anyone with a brain can see a problem coming and try to scoot through or rock the vehicle to good footing.
Don't hit the breaks to stop progress just to make look like a fail.
Piss poor proof here. Show me some real life test that proves it's worth.

javojjaaf 1 year ago
I am a fan of selectable lockers, this is so staged! did you notice the brake lights! Chev's locker only works at low speed and it is more like a true track than a real locker. Are we all as stupid as they think! The chev is not a superior truck, check out truck bed bounce and see the chev's frame flex everywhere.

all the others lost anyway you know nothing about trucks and lockers
kelly6580 2 years ago
In technical terms please tell us all where I stated anything wrong! Stick to the facts.Your emotions are clouding your intellect, If I were to buy a 1/2 ton it would be Ford hands down and a 3/4 Dodge Power Wagon and one ton It would be Dodge by a long shot, I am open to what ever performs the best.
adsabine1 2 years ago
@adsabine1 its nothing like the true track my friend. may want to do some research so you understand who both work. the g80 is very much like a "real" locker.
javojjaaf 1 year ago
@javojjaaf You are right, the true track is always on, it allows some slip, no clutches. the chevs locker turns off after it hits a sertain speed, that would then make it a open diff at speed, that would be good on the HWY, not off road, selectable lockers still rule this one.
adsabine1 1 year ago
@adsabine1 right, and selectable is the better choice if your making an install for sure. the true track is something else huh? all them crazy gears, but works well.

that "tiny pin" is a temporary lock that disengeges after there is enough rpms in the differential.
monserenergy700r 3 years ago
yes i know but its still a tiny pin to control such a large load.
Triple88a 3 years ago
@Triple88a and it works great. i bought my 98 z71 new and to this day i have never had a problem with it, and its seen some bad times. the pin holds up very well, its not as weak or as cheap as you think. eaton makes very good diffs, just like the true track you would find in a titan.

you can see them hit the brakes in the 4wd ford
myampslouder 3 years ago
you know why thats bull shit cause if you look at the angle all the other trucks hit the ramp it makes it alot more challenging, but if you see the way the silvi's hit it they go almost straight across the ditch making it alot easier for even two tires to get the best of traction whether you have diff. lock or four wheel drive or not...although it would help alot more.

@gman4dx266 you know you dont need the additive in a g80, because it dont have clutches...its mechanical. that additive is for limited slips clutch packs. g80 only require regular gear oil. trust me, ive been a GM tech for 10 yeas and done LOTS of diff fluid changes.

Levi1889 4 years ago
why didnt they use a new tundra 4x4 in this video only in their 2wd test. Probably because they know about the a-trac system that the new tundra is equiped with. my tundra can move with only one wheel on the ground. dont believe me try it. I'll be the first to say lockers are great for the off road toy but They blow in the rain.
xtoyracer 4 years ago
try limited slip (im assuming is what your tundra is equipped with) while towing a trailer it doesnt work because limited slip provides the tire with resistance, some power not alot but it is usually enough power (not always) to move the truck it does not lock the axle 100% which is why manual lockers would be a a better choice even over auto lockers like chevy has (as they lock and unlock while on pavement and take a bit of getting used to)
mattyy675 3 years ago
true that is why i am waiting for the arb air lockers for my tundra. I love lockers but no way do i want an auto locker on my daily driver.on a toy sure. by the way i tow loaded dump trailers 9000lb +/- to the dump. even with a locker you can and will get stuck. That is why i bought a 4wd. much better control in the mud while backing up a loaded trailer.

nuclearthreat545 4 years ago
It is not rigged you retards, learn how differentials work. Open and LS diffs WILL slip when you take weight off of the tires, the tire with the LEAST traction will get power. A locker fixes this by physically locking the axles together so the one tire that DOES have traction gets power.

IOW Don't drive like a stupid hick and these things will last forever.
ladefreakndah 5 years ago
I've put a few hundred thousand miles on them and seen them with many more miles without any issues.

Actually, the g80 is quite possibly the strongest locking diff. on the market. It is stronger than the Detroit locker, and is used in applications ranging from GM trucks, to off road and drag racing.
