1:38 - Ivanov was influenced by the Romantic era? Where do these people get this stuff?? This whole myth of "Ivanov, the downtrodden genius" is such an early Soviet fabrication. The only production that retains, or rather has resurrected (in 1984) Ivanov's alleged 1892 choreography for the "Waltz of Snowflakes" is the Royal Ballet. The footage shown in this clip is from the Bolshoi's horrid Grigorovich production.
Thank goodness there isn't a definitive version! That's the joy of the Nutcracker and the music of a great composer. Multitudes of choreographers have chamed and enchanted us with their interpretation of the nutcracker. I must no look at several new ones I haven't seen to open my eyes to the possibilities.
@wendyverdades - actually there is a definitive version, partially resurrected by the Royal Ballet in 1984. It survives in notation held at Harvard University. Multitudes of choreographers have staged "Nutcracker" because it ranks in the money, especially in the US where the state doesn't fund the arts. In my opinion there is only 1 version - the original of 1892, with decor & costumes of Tsarist splendour, a fountain on stage, & a bee hive in the apotheosis.

Bless our white culture. Do not let it die and be corrupted by other influences.
