  • Absolutely fantastic ad. One of GM's finest EVER (can you tell I like caddy's) ? The Teddy Bears were an interesting choice for background music (although they are great !) A Swell ad...suck on it Lexus.

I could see if Cadillac did because they own the commercial, but it's none of WMG's business. Am I wrong? Isn't this just benefiting Cadillac having this here. And wouldn't that mean that WMG is shorting them on what they paid for by pulling the sound?

  • This ad was used on TV about 2 years ago. I think it debuted at the '06 or '07 Super Bowl, and ran for about 6 months. I think they should use it again and throw in some of their latest cool models like the CTS-V and upcoming CTS Coupe.

    It's a great commercial though - one of my favorites.

  • Cadillac has always been a style leader. Doing what they did in the 60's over again would contradict one of the brands core principles.

  • cadillacs are much better cars now then they were in the past....but just as beautiful. as for lincoln, ford only builds the town car because they been building the same car since 1972 and because of that little fact it cost them practically nothing to produce it.

  • tell you what our roads would have been a boring place without GM or any other american brand for that matter, i dont understand the negativity towards us cars i mean my 78 sedan deville runs like new if not better but gm aint what it used to be

  • You have to understand, the reason all our cars made since the first gas crisis are hated is because they were not manufactured like they were previously. When foreign cars came in the market, they had advanced technology. The U.S. automakers new if this was the case their cars would be obsolete and instead of spending the money to modernize their cars fuel and technologywise, they bought the technology patents from the foregin cars and hid them.

  • Cont. The cars companies just refused to spend money, they were concerned about making as much as possible. They only thought of short term sales instead of the long term which would get them later. When fuel and exhaust laws came into effect they cut spending on body and frame design and istead used it to make the cars with the minium requirments. In the late 70's it got them back, the better quality foreign market took the country by storm. Not only were they efficent but they were built well

  • Cont. 2, U.S. cars had barley changed during the 70's. Sure the bodies were redeisgned every year or two, but everything else was the same. My dad told me when he was looking at new 1980 Buick Syklark, it had the exact same engine and frame as his current 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass. It was cheapness like this that gave the U.S. market a bad name. The other negativity is for the poor attempt at making a fuel effiecient compact, the Fords are the most notrious, especially the Pinto. It's a sad story.

  • im aware that alot of gm cars from the mid to late 70s werent exactly what ud call precision engineering but neither were some asian brands it still doesnt change the fact that gm chrysler and ford made the most recognised and beautiful cars ever, if theyr such bad quality then why doesnt my deville die? 30 years now no overhaulin still runs thats enuf for me and mines not the only one, you cant say the same for the asian brands, when was the last time you saw a 30 year old toyota

  • That's a good question. The luxury cars were well built back. Especially Cadillac. Those in my opinion were still real Cadillacs, not like the boring squared off ones we have now. The reason we don't see too many Toyota's, Honda's, Datsuns and other brands from the 70's was because they were highly prone to rust. Not just Japanese makes, Mavericks, Comets, Vega's, Pinto's, Gremlins, and Pacers all experienced the same thing.

  • Ive said the same thing too 1947Desoto, Cadillac dont make Cadillacs like they used to back in the 1960's and mostly 70's.

    Now 4 Lincoln, they still make the Town Cars that looks like they r 1970's cars, but 4 Cadillac their not the same cars as they were in the 70's, i say they should go back to making these 70's cars with the same body like the Eldorado and put 2days efficient engine in those cars so they could have good mileage.

  • In my opinion the last good Cadillacs were were made in 1960's. I'd say my favorite Cadillacs rang from 1940-1966. What I don't get about the new design was that I heard they've had a tradition of vertical tail lamps since 1948, yet they got rid of the fins. Cadillac has been badly redesigned if you ask me. I hate 90s cars, yet the early 90s Cadillacs had much nicer looks than the recent models. In the early 90s they had fins, whitewalls and a chrome bumper and side strip on the sides.

  • Ur right the Cadillacs were good in the 60's as well, especially for the Deville that u said had vertical tail lamps and head lights, and ur right the eatly 90's cadillacs had some good designs incuding 4 the deville until the somewhere in 1999 or 2000, yet even though i do not like the 90's cadillacs. And like i've said b4, Cadillac needs to get back to the 60's and 70's design and bring back the Eldorado. i say the should jus use he same bodies from the 60's and 70's with 2days engines.

  • And in my opnion, the only reason why Cadillac is successful now but not 4 long, is because of the Escalade, but it wont be 4 long cause the Escalades r now being sold by buyers due to gas prices.

  • Cont. Cadillacs were still well made until the early 80's when the tried to make it fuel effecient after the '79 Gas Crisis. Once again cheapness played a part. They tried an 8-6-4 cylinder shutoff system, but it failed to work properly. Basicly, in the 70's the cheaper cars that had to be modernized were the first to be built badly and the luxury cars were the last. Pre-1979 Cadillacs, Lincolns and Chryslers didn't get good fuel economy, but they but were built well. Mid-range cars too.

  • The Prius, although well-intended, is about the most environmentally damaging car to produce, and the internal combustion engine in it only manages around 43MPG. And what happens when the car is past its usable life?

  • I would also add that I doubt VERY much the Prius will see anywhere near the 33 years my 1975 Sedan de Ville has, and my daily (non-hybrid) car easily hits 55MPG.

  • The Seville was a POS, that's the one that came with the 8-6-4(optional). That was one of GM's better ideas.

  • hell no, that was a piece of crap. GM had many lawsuits over those engines because the cylinder sleeves would loosen after 50 to 60k miles. Can't modify a small block gas engine to run diesel because of high compression with no water jackets between the cylinders.

  • It wasn't as good as the 6-3 we have now. The system on the Cadillacs back then always stalled. Many people had the system disconnected to run on 8 all the time. Many of the environmentally friendly options we have now are improved versions of the post 1979 gas crisis. Even the 1981 Imperial had problems with it's fuel injector. It's rare to find one with the origional.

  • Thats true, GM is really going downhill due to gas guzzling/unreliable/ugly cars (for the most part) but as you see in the add Ford and Cadillac been for MUCH MUCH longer and had much more history and set the standard for japansese crap cars.   • GM Turned it's back on this country years ago. Many GM Vehicles are made in Mexico, and the GM cars that are made in the great USA have 70% of parts made off shore or in Mexico.   • I agree with you, ToyotaTacoma06, but you need to be careful with what you say about GM or Ford. You can get yourself killed. Detroit fans tend to get very passionate about the cars they drive. I drive a Ford and mentioned to my co-workers I was having so many problems with it I was considering a Honda. I almost got shot by saying that. Let's just leave it at that. Granted, I live in redneck town in the South. It may be different in your neck of the woods.

When I bought it, everyone wanted to shoot me. They forgot that I had 5 other "american cars". Trying to explain that the Tundra is built in Texas makes no diff. But I agree with you. Tough topic.   • Actually American cars are now on par with Toyota. Ford recently exceeded Toyota in initial quality ratings. Hard to believe I know given the much earned reputation of American cars, but its true. Look it up. There's nothing wrong with American cars now. Its time we lost the bad sentiment.

  • You are exactly right. I read that Ford is now, and has been for the past year, the most reliable name plate in the world. Chrysler is on the rise as well. My Chrysler is great. The standard warranty is unbeatable. But for import companies, as they expand their model lines, they are seeing some of the same problems/recalls that used to plague the big 3. I am really proud of the U.S turn around. The 2 wheel drive Tundra I also have is highly rated in Consumer Reports, I read the 4WD is a POS.

  • Only time will tell who is the most reliable. No test they put the car through at the factory will equate to a lifetime of abuse. They can test for certain things yes. But the months of abuse they go through there, does not equate to years/decades of the same treatment in the real world.

  • There's lots of wrong information here. First of all, GM is now down to about 100,000 US workers. It was 200,000 in the 90s. Tundra was designed and engineered in America. Although I'm still not a fan of it since It's designed like a car. To be lightweight fast and efficient.

    So yeah. GM kind of sucks for getting rid of their American workforce. But to be perfectly fair, they didn't have a choice. American manufacturing is very expensive, and they are barely making it as it is.
