i tink that the alienware is way beter than mac baecaus when you make a presentation the alienwares screen is 17 " and tha macbook or air or pro `s screen is not soo big and on the alienware you can play games and the alienware is a mobile pc wit a bilt in moniter and keyboad well alienware is very expensive but apple`s laptop are not so cheap to they are almost expensive like the alienware and the alienware`s performnce is beter I dis agree wit Chris beter have a laptop with a beter peformance

if you have some money, then go for a mac, as that would be a better solution, although i would recommend HP, as they have a wide range of models, of which can be very cheap cheap, and also have great specs considering thier price!

my new hp is £300 with 2.16ghz core 2 duo, 1gb ddr2 (which i upgraded to 2gb) a 120gb hdd and an intel gma x3100.

(not the best, but good enough for school etc...)

only downside = VISTA!!!!! lol

macbook pro's come with nvidia 8600m gt, so it's a beastly machine when you put boot camp to load into windows.

side by side, macbook pro's are pretty much the same thing as other windows-compatible laptops, only with os 10.

I was in the Apple Shop in London (which is awesome). Anyway, I was against Macs from the few times I had used them. However I saw that the basic macbook is like £699 and it seems to have improved allot. It was slick and I really liked ''Safari'' and the Webcam was AMAZINGLY GOOD. So if i had to pick a travel friendly laptop I would be getting a MscBook now... or the new £200 Asus laptop with solid state 16 gig HDD which would be great for using out and about.

I agree. MacBooks are the way to go. They run OS X, Linux, AND Windows. I have one, and it's the best computer I've ever owned. Great for games too. Works good with Vista and XP. The Apple drivers for vista work GREAT!

Also you can get Pc's with much better graphic cards then you can with Mac's. MacBook has a realy crappy Intel graphic card the pro book has a nice 8600GT thoug but even the 15" is very expensive.

Preference maybe? Apple has some great hardware in their laptops, and some people still prefer to operate within a Windows environment. There is not "best" operating systems as each has their pros and cons. Sure, OS X is much more stable, but not everyone either wants to or needs to make the switch.

Go cheap for your first and then go bigger when you actually need it. Cheap ones at Wal-mart or dell would work fine and it will allow you to do upgrades if you need to. BUt really why in high school? A desktop will work fine

i'd say a macbook pro. esp with leopard coming out soon, because you have the best of both worlds... i'd dual boot with osx and xp. ease of use, productivity, etc etc with mac, and gaming (ONLY gaming) for xp. setup the xp partition for a few gigs... wow, i'm saying the same as chris! :-P

Hey chris, I got a HP Laptop not too long ago, With Windows Vista, Not exactly what i expected, But its nice, It Occasionally, Or on a Daily Basis should i say Freezes, But a simple restart fixes that, I LOVE Media Center though, Haven t tried mac, so Sim all for Vista, Its Nice! Other than the Daily Freeze, Everything is Real Nice.
