The first Nemorio aria "Quanto e bella" sits much more comfortably in his voice I think. Una furtiva I don't think is a good fit for Florez. Never has been! A lot of the time his pitch isn't dead on and the sound is to thin for such a powerful emotional aria. That's just my opinion though. What a tenor! His Ah mes amis is absolutely fabulous.

Eccola... Oh! qual le accresce beltà l'amor nascente! A far l'indifferente

did you hear his other video!? That harpist should have known that the bassoon came in late and fixed it!!! I dont know if the conductor failed to cue the bassoonist or if he just wasnt watching... BUT DUH!!!! If the bassoon comes in a measure late than just VAMP!!! Her ear should have told her to vamp... I hate idiots sorry... Any musician that only plays attention to the one sheet of music in front of them is PATHETIC. argh...
anyway..... Juan Diego is way cool; long live Juan!
He is good but the Turkish Tenor Bulent Bezduz trully amazing in that aria. . Also he sings Donizetti's unknown operas Belisario. Incredible performance...
Breathtakingly beautiful. My favorite tenor since the great Corelli, who I saw in many operas. I get the same thrill from Juan Diego's exquisite singing, not to mention his spectacular fioratura.
I listen to today's tenors and what I hear are good tenors but where are the giants like Bjorling, Gigli, Wunderlich. The same can be said about sopranos. Where are the Callas's Ponselles or Tebaldis.Of course people keep referring to the past. There was a golden age of singing and this is the standard that today's singers are compared with. I don't hear any singers today touched with greatness.
What a wonderful surprise. I have never heard of him although I travel often to major European Opera houses. He has a wonderful voice. Lets hear more of him - he has a great future if he looks after his voice.
I knew you would like him. The command of his voice in the lighter repertoire (he isn't really a Puccini singer RIGHT now, he should wait a while before taking on the heavier repertoire) reminds me a lot of Kraus' technical command and brilliance. Certainly a voice to watch out for!
Bulent Bezduz continues to impress me. Have you heard the Polish tenor Piotr Beczala. He has a wonderful lyric tenor voice, something like Wunderlich. He is going from strength to strength.
Giant tenors and sopranos exist even today but they probably don't bother to get discovered ;also people in general don't sing in the streets or at work any more as most work is done inside and not in the fields;so it seems impossible for poeple in the opera business to hear and promote a talented person.maybe with opera live shows ,who knows.
Good Tenor's and Good Soprano's usually come from poor family's or from children raised in the streets ,do you still believe the system today can let us get into opera houses?there is so much ..going on with a big carreer
From Ecuador congratulations to our peruvian brothers, Juan Diego is the best voice ever and will improve with time he is the one that will have the splendor of a real superb star, he already shines with his own light.
I agree with Zuleron, Corelli has E lucevan le stelle, as much as Flores has this one, I love Franco Corelli, and consider him the greatest tenor ever, and not comparing, but Juan Diego is just on the right track to become one
Great teachers like Cotogni, Rosati and Bratt and others from the Golden Age of Singing, are NO where to be found. THAT is the reason there are NO singers of quality today. Please don't apologize about your grammatical error. However, the concern for your wish to define a great singer is important. Listen to Richard Crooks on You Tube. Jan Kiepura and of course the great Gigli.
Each tenor has its perfect version of some song. As Pavarotti had Nessun Dorma, and no one will do again that music as perfect as Lucciano, Juan Florez has in its performance of Una Furtiva Lacrima the most perfect version of this song.
I don't agree. Florez's version is divine, but Pavarotti's one has something better. I think Florez is unique in Ah mes amis and in all the Rossini roles
Even though I don't like lyric tenors as much as spintos, I don't think that there is anyone who sings this song better than Florez. Other examples of tenors owning songs are Domingo with "No puede ser"; Pavarotti with "Nessun Dorma"; For me Corelli owns "E lucevan le stelle". But Florez owns this one.
What I really like about this aria is that there are many different ways to sing it and still do it justice. Different interpretations is what makes music worth listening to over and over again.
The composer "tells" you what is required which indicates that "different ways" are not applicable. In the first place, vocally, this fellow has no comparison to Tito Schipa.
The composer may indicate appropriate tempo and certain dynamics, but it is definitely up to the artist to make the piece his own, yet remaining respectful to the composer. I agree with you about Tito, he (as well as Gigli and Gedda) sing this with passion, beauty and elegance that is unparalleled, in my opinion.
Many ignorant say that the opera is dying. It's not true. You "experts" are killing Opera by disliking our time! The past was called THE GOLDEN AGE OF SINGING because there were many great singers; nowadays there are few great singers: Florez is one of them.
he can do pop music just great, but he is no Pavarotti. Florez can be as good as Pavarotti with time but why compare them? Why not enjoy the the pleasure they bring to our lives and be grateful.
Bocelli has the voice of a Kleenex, and he's not a classical singer. Anyone who believes otherwise is a sad, pathetic, individual. He shouldn't be metioned in the same sentence as Pavarotti, Florez, or any other legitimate tenor. Basically, Bocce Ball as I call him, is a freak show - "let's watch the blind guy sing" even though he sounds like a noise my cat makes when he's hungry.
This dude is in love with the song...look into his eyes...tell me, his eyes are a glimps of his golden soul, expressing the sound of a bitter sweet song. His tone and Diction is wonderful.
I totally agree with cucuchi. to compare Flores with Bocelli is unthinkable! I like Bocelli, but it is the same as to compare a daisy and a rose. I agree about Pavarotti's voice and about Placido. I like Placido a lot, but there is no one better than Flores!
Please do not ever compare Juan Diego to Bocelli. Bocelli is good, but I have found that the real opera lovers do not like Bocelli, including myself. Juan Diego is a true tenor, Bel Canto, the best at the moment,
Pavarotti was great. Pavarotti had a more full and strong sound, I liked Pavarotti but I always found his voice sounding almost the same without much of a range, was always very strong, I preferred Domingo always instead of Pavarotti. But now Juan Diego is the best!...
I didn't like you in"Minuit Chretien", but here you're absolutely GREAT. Even better than di Stefanol

His Ah mes amis is absolutely fabulous.

teneley 2 years ago
puxex 2 years ago

DIAZLEONCESAR 2 years ago 2

raythespian 3 years ago 4
I listen to today's tenors and what I hear are good tenors but where are the giants like Bjorling, Gigli, Wunderlich. The same can be said about sopranos. Where are the Callas's Ponselles or Tebaldis.Of course people keep referring to the past. There was a golden age of singing and this is the standard that today's singers are compared with. I don't hear any singers today touched with greatness.
margaretzier 3 years ago
Look up Bülent Bezdüz singing Una Furtiva Lagrima here on youtube. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Merryjest 3 years ago
What a wonderful surprise. I have never heard of him although I travel often to major European Opera houses. He has a wonderful voice. Lets hear more of him - he has a great future if he looks after his voice.
margaretzier 3 years ago
I knew you would like him. The command of his voice in the lighter repertoire (he isn't really a Puccini singer RIGHT now, he should wait a while before taking on the heavier repertoire) reminds me a lot of Kraus' technical command and brilliance. Certainly a voice to watch out for!
Merryjest 3 years ago
Bulent Bezduz continues to impress me. Have you heard the Polish tenor Piotr Beczala. He has a wonderful lyric tenor voice, something like Wunderlich. He is going from strength to strength.
dollenberg 3 years ago 2
Giant tenors and sopranos exist even today but they probably don't bother to get discovered ;also people in general don't sing in the streets or at work any more as most work is done inside and not in the fields;so it seems impossible for poeple in the opera business to hear and promote a talented person.maybe with opera live shows ,who knows.
smartsteve 3 years ago
Good Tenor's and Good Soprano's usually come from poor family's or from children raised in the streets ,do you still believe the system today can let us get into opera houses?there is so much ..going on with a big carreer

9ptimus 3 years ago

Great teachers like Cotogni, Rosati and Bratt and others from the Golden Age of Singing, are NO where to be found. THAT is the reason there are NO singers of quality today. Please don't apologize about your grammatical error. However, the concern for your wish to define a great singer is important. Listen to Richard Crooks on You Tube. Jan Kiepura and of course the great Gigli.
796824 4 years ago
Each tenor has its perfect version of some song. As Pavarotti had Nessun Dorma, and no one will do again that music as perfect as Lucciano, Juan Florez has in its performance of Una Furtiva Lacrima the most perfect version of this song.
alloliveiraa 4 years ago
I don't agree. Florez's version is divine, but Pavarotti's one has something better. I think Florez is unique in Ah mes amis and in all the Rossini roles
fratenore 4 years ago
Even though I don't like lyric tenors as much as spintos, I don't think that there is anyone who sings this song better than Florez. Other examples of tenors owning songs are Domingo with "No puede ser"; Pavarotti with "Nessun Dorma"; For me Corelli owns "E lucevan le stelle". But Florez owns this one.
zuleron 4 years ago 2
P.S.: Listen to Corelli's Nessun Dorma. In my opinion it's better than Pavarotti's

There is a bleat in this voice. Listen to the superb TITO SCHIPA. It will reveal exactly how this should be sung.
796824 4 years ago
What I really like about this aria is that there are many different ways to sing it and still do it justice. Different interpretations is what makes music worth listening to over and over again.
spgtenor 4 years ago
The composer "tells" you what is required which indicates that "different ways" are not applicable. In the first place, vocally, this fellow has no comparison to Tito Schipa.
796824 4 years ago
The composer may indicate appropriate tempo and certain dynamics, but it is definitely up to the artist to make the piece his own, yet remaining respectful to the composer. I agree with you about Tito, he (as well as Gigli and Gedda) sing this with passion, beauty and elegance that is unparalleled, in my opinion.
spgtenor 4 years ago
Why can't you appreciate two tenors?? Why can't you listen to Florez without a comparison with an other tenor??
Personally I think Florez is the Schipa of the XXI century.
fratenore 4 years ago
Florez is mediocre. There is a reason the past is referred to as - THE GOLDEN AGE of SINGING.
796824 4 years ago
Who are you to say that?
Many ignorant say that the opera is dying. It's not true. You "experts" are killing Opera by disliking our time! The past was called THE GOLDEN AGE OF SINGING because there were many great singers; nowadays there are few great singers: Florez is one of them.

Bochelli is very very good. I like his voice.
he can do pop music just great, but he is no Pavarotti. Florez can be as good as Pavarotti with time but why compare them? Why not enjoy the the pleasure they bring to our lives and be grateful.
iluminatiytu 4 years ago
Bocelli has the voice of a Kleenex, and he's not a classical singer. Anyone who believes otherwise is a sad, pathetic, individual. He shouldn't be metioned in the same sentence as Pavarotti, Florez, or any other legitimate tenor. Basically, Bocce Ball as I call him, is a freak show - "let's watch the blind guy sing" even though he sounds like a noise my cat makes when he's hungry.

I totally agree with cucuchi. to compare Flores with Bocelli is unthinkable! I like Bocelli, but it is the same as to compare a daisy and a rose. I agree about Pavarotti's voice and about Placido. I like Placido a lot, but there is no one better than Flores!
rm0525 4 years ago 2
Please do not ever compare Juan Diego to Bocelli. Bocelli is good, but I have found that the real opera lovers do not like Bocelli, including myself. Juan Diego is a true tenor, Bel Canto, the best at the moment,
Pavarotti was great. Pavarotti had a more full and strong sound, I liked Pavarotti but I always found his voice sounding almost the same without much of a range, was always very strong, I preferred Domingo always instead of Pavarotti. But now Juan Diego is the best!...
