@WAMEDJO he was heavily influenced by earlier stride pianists such as art tatum, fats waller, and james p johnson, and even some classical pianists. Gotta love monk's take on stride.
@barrtok Not really, I am a pianist and I have played at many of the same places Barry did, including his club and spend some time with him and Clifford Jordan(who I used to work with) and that's when I heard the tape. I tried to take some lessons from Barry, but he just wouldn't accept private students. I went to his class but didn't learn anything new--it was mainly him talking to his students on different subjects--great, but I felt I needed more, so I didn't continue. Probably, my loss.
Monk alone really has something to do with the stride playing, Willie "the Lion" Smith maybe

Great ! . Barry Harris used to play this tape all the time some years ago. Monk sounds inspired and in a good shape physically. Thanks!!
