Haha i always thought this was so ridiculous as well. Even when I saw this as a kid and loved robocop. Another horrible wrestling moment was when hogan and the giant had a monster truck pull on the roof and then after hogan accidentally knocked giant off and was like "o god, get help". Then he went to the ring all sad like giant was dead only to be shocked when the giant appeared unharmed. It was said that he survived the fall by landing on a car or some shit if i remember correctly.

The outcomes are predetermined but a lot of the action is legitimate to an extent. The moves are choreographed to avoid serious injuries (and when they fail is when someone actually gets hurt) but these guys take some pretty good bumps along the way.
