For me, i prefer to fire wristers from the slot. I usually shoot slap-shots from the Point. You will need to set up a good screen or be a very accurate shooter if you wanna score goal's from the Point. I usualy rely on my wingers to set up a good screen. Then if i miss from the point, they will chase the rebound and hopefully light the lamp.
Great spot to shoot for, its even easier to hit then trying to buzz one to the corner cause you don't have to worry so much of missing wide. It really handcuffs the goalie. Just put the shoot right next to their ear, right in the crook of their glove arm. That's a long and awkward way for their glove to have to travel to make the save. Great tip.
Goalies hate when i do this because its so close to their head, however its very effective. Even if you don't score you may have scared the goalie for the next shot you take.
As a goalie instructor I can attest that this scoring area is legit. It's probably the hardest glove save for most goalies to make. Do pay attention to goalies that hold their gloves in the 12 o'clock position. They will be far more likely to catch these than the traditional goalies.
@multipass613 Absolutely correct. On a disciplined goalie that holds his glove in this position it will be much harder to score there but with all of the action in a game and when a goalie gets tired this will cause his arm to drop too.
I can't tell you how many times I've seen Henrik Lundqvist get beat in that spot, it's becoming painful to watch. He's amazing everywhere else, but that one spot takes the cake.
@thegman1234 Yeah I've noticed he's weak on shots from the Point. But if you keep your glove up, you will get beat constantly on your glove side. (Example, Lu,) Luongo has a very weak glove side. As the playoffs progressed teams learned how to score on him.
Ha yeah. I was going to print the same design on the back so it could apply to both hands but it was cost prohibitive. When I made the shooter tutor the number was 93% of NHL goalies caught left.
Thank you. The reason why I came up with the shooter tutor based on angles was because I had a good shoot but I didn't score too many goalies. I now realize that a quick release is way more important then the speed of the shoot. So I would look up and try to see an open net and by the time I shot it the goalie would move into position and block the hole. So the shooter tutor is based on angles. Forget about the goalie and shoot quickly to the best percentage area.
i know what you are saying about that extra hole. But there is a way to stop those shots. It's called an elbow save, this is where the goalie lurches his elbow beside his head. Although not many goalie use it or even know about it and when they do it's hard to use it effectively. Anyways, I just thought i would give a little info on your new shooting area. Hope it helps.
Yeah it's the same. I made the iPhone app as an educational tool in conjunction with the shooter tutor. The goal is to get players familiar with where they're aiming based on their release location. So instead of a player getting a scoring opportunity, looking up to find "open net", and then shooting. A player will know the best places to shoot for the highest probability of scoring, so they will have the quickest release possible. and for sure score more goals.
Only place currently is my website score100goalsdotcom
I'm trying to get them in pro shops right now and also heading to the Let's Play Hockey Expo at the Minnesota High School Hockey Tournament where I"m going to sell them.
Yeah I created and patented these shooter tutors. My goal was to find a better teaching aid for players on how to score. Goalies have changed dramatically during the past 20 years when the originally shooter tutor came out with the 5 holes. They play either the butterfly or hybrid style and have tremendous coaches. If a player can know where to shoot based on his release position then he/she will get the puck off quicker then a player who picks his/her head up and searches for open net.
Unfortunately there is nothing on the back. Close to 93% or goalies including the NHL are righties or catch with their right hand. Digitally printing on both sides would be too much money to pass on to the customer.
the only thing about your shooter tutor is that i would like to see it a lot more "heavy duty" for guys who can rally wire the puck and maybe some weight or steel at the bottom to stop all the lower missed shots to make more durable. I was just wondering if you guys had such a model because my old shooter tutor ripped in half but it lasted me almost 12 years
How's it going? it's definitely heavy duty as far as the material is made out of. I have this one set up at a training facility where everyone from 10 year olds to minor league pros have been ripping pucks at it for over 6 months. As far as the bottom we had to weigh keeping it weighed down vs. being able to retrieve the pucks. We have the standard bar for all shooter tutors but are looking into using a heavy chain which has works well so far.
Great shooting advice! I like your idea of zones that you start at to score. I'm using these ideas in my own adult hockey and teaching my son this as well. Keep the videos coming - do one on each zone!

i ve scored in that spot before but its a bit harder if the goalie comes out and closes the angle on you a bit.

I think Luongo does a good job taking that spot out because of his large shoulders, but i have seen him beat in that position sooo many times.

damn, ive never seen this before, i think i should start alternating holding my glove 12' o clock and traditional
analvspredator 8 months ago
Well, you don't really have to shoot to score, most of the time just shoot it on net and goals happen more often than you think.

For the first slot you talked about, a good goalie would use his mask to block it.
