The F-14 was and still is an awesome bird but the Super Hornet is better in every way. I have a feeling we will see a tomcat some day fly again at an airshow.

That was an awesome demo. You could tell the pilot was pushing the plane hard by the wing-flex. Love it......a pilot who shows people what an F14 can do. A+

The opening maneuver in this video is the Dirty Bolter followed by the inverted 45 degree exit to set up the entry into the min radius turn. This was taken out of the Tomcat Demo after "Cobb" almost lost it during his practice demo at NAS Oceana in May 2000 and it killed "Dewar/Fur" ( they got slow over the top) at the NAF Willow Grove airshow 2 weeks later during their F-14A demo in June 2000.

@SoccerBoy77 Snorts last show at NAS Oceana was sept 1997. This was probably flown by Mark"Crunchy" Burgess, "Cobb" or "Dewar" who was killed (along with his RIO "Fur" ) at the Willow Grove airshow in June 2000 during his F-14 Demo.

The F-14 was an air-superiority fighter aircraft designed to defend the US Fleet against multiple in-coming threats. It had the most sophisticated radar ever developed and placed in a fighter when it was fielded. It was designed to go very fast, (respond to threats), and could target up-to 8 different planes or missiles at the same time. No other plane in existence at the time, (and I don't believe now either - based on pay-load availability), could do that, either US or USSR.

Well, since I have 6 years working on the tomcat and 5 working on a hornet most would say I have an intimate knowledge of both planes. The F18 is a little more agile then the F14. However, I have seen many a hornet owned by the tomcat. If you would like a comparison feel free to email me. F14 is dead, no longer needed to protect the fleet from waves of soviet bombers. It was not obsolete, just pricey.

I've seen over a dozen Tomcat demos in my lifetime but this is definitely the most aggressive version I've ever seen! I wish I could have seen this version live.

They toned them down in 2000 after the demo crew was killed in Willow Grove

Firstly, great video - i've never seen a tomcat being thrown around like this before....

so for those of you who may know...

what are the chances of seeing one of these at a demo - could they be run through private ownership, and would one evr travel to the UK?

I don't think they'll ever be flown again. From my understanding a certain country (Iran) has a few of these things and would love to get their hands on some parts, etc. This is the main reason why they grounded all F-14s...sad but unfortunately true...an amazing aircraft for sure!

Who ever was flying this plane was not fucking around. I still can't believe that the retired this plane for the ugly f-18. Lets see the f-18 get its own movie, Top Gun 2 perhaps?
