  • It's a pteredacto ok

  • Guys its only a bird in the newer ones but it actually was a munchkin

  • It's a bird. Midgets don't have wings last time I checked. It doesn't even look like a midget. People are way over thinking silly little rumours someone spread like forty years ago. People were dramatic then too.

  • i saw a munchkin jerking off at the end

and the scarecrow got scared of the bird-munchkin-hanging-masturbating-flying thing and had to shit his pants, look how he gets down going away, coreography my ass, more like the coreography from my ass when i am taking a dump

  • I don't think it's even a large sized bird. The background "trees" were not real trees, so it isn't to scale. And notice the shadow of a bird flying across the end of this clip. . .

  • its a damn bird. DUH!!!! Damn rumors!!!!

  • Damn... it's an ostrich dudes... at least it's what I see...

Do you wanna see something cool about Wizard of oz... turn it mute while playing the whole cd "the dark side of the moon - Pink Floyd" it repeats the cd for 2 and a half times and still making sense...

the scene that creep me out is when the house is blowed out by the hurricane and the music fits like a glove... makes me shiver...

  • It was a heron of some type, p.s I live near hundreds of herons

  • lol...yup...looked like a freaking ostrich to me! LMAO!!!

  • HOW DOES IT LOOK LIKE A HANGING MUNCHKIN?!?!?!?!?!?! THAT'S WHAT I'D LIKE TO KNOW!!!!!

  • ok as u ppl CANNOT see but i seen that the hanging munchkin was hanging but as soon as the prudoucur and the other ppl seen the munchkin swinging they covered it with the birds wing nobody knows that ugh

  • its a fucking dinosaur.

  • its clearly a bird. look at it before they turn the corner. it moves its head down in a pecking motion. I've never heard of a hanged person moving around. And they also had a large bird rented from the zoo loose ON SET. so, no. It's not a hanged little person.

  • Aww look a birdy :D

  • I heard it was just a munchkin performing auto-erotic asphyxiation

  • It's a damn bird people!! And I don't wanna hear that "they edited the hangin out" shit because I refuse to believe that the director an actors would just not notice someone fucking swinging in the background and leave it in for all the world to see!!! It was a bird in 1939 and it's now!

  • I think it's a bird but who really knos

  • @chuckyrocks4321 Yeah exactly, all I see is a bird pecking at the ground!! I don't see how it can look like suicide

  • What ever ya no, but this whole thing makes

Wizard of Oz that much cooler

  • @ThreeDaysGraceluva14

I think your foil hat is on a little too tight.

  • @Carus0e What fucking foil hat? sorry i dont speak retarded kid language. but if i met you in person, i would rearrange your face, so watch what you say to me. im not one to take bullshit from other kiddy smartasses like you.

  • @ThreeDaysGraceluva14

Oh boy, another internet tough guy pounding out threats on his keyboard. I'm so scared ...NOT!

    Fuck you.

  • @Carus0e Excuse you, dear, but im not a guy, so Fuck YOU. i could fight you in person but i would rather not because i might catch some weird foreigner disease or AIDS from you.

  • @ThreeDaysGraceluva14

Okay, so how were you planning to "rearrange my face" if I didn' t "watch what I said" to you?

Or was that just an empty threat from another internet wannabe badass? I thought so. Now run along, your mommy is calling you to supper.

  • @Carus0e if i knew you in person i would teach you a lesson u would never forget bitch i dont know who u think u r but i dont put up with mothafuckers like u, little kid. my mom isnt calling me for supper shes telling me she doesnt know why God made people like YOU. and i dont run crying to my mom everytime something happens, but i bet you do. motherfucker wannabe, you wish you were cool like the rest of us.

  • @ThreeDaysGraceluva14

"If" a frog had wings, he wouldn't bump his but. "If" you ever met me in person you would be asking me if I wanted fries with that. So I ask, WTF are you doing about the shit I am giving to you other than spouting off on the internet? The answer is NADA, ZIP, ZILCH!

If "cool like the rest of you" means believing in crackpot foilhat theories about suicidal munchkins, I am proud to NOT be a member of your pathetic club.

  • @Carus0e stfu mf dnt talk to me anymore cuz im tired of talking to you. all you are is an immature brat who needs his ass kicked a few times to finally get the message. so stop talking to me and maybe there wont be an issue.

  • @ThreeDaysGraceluva14

If you are "tired of talking to me", why do you keep posting?

See, here's the thing. You can't make me stop posting and you can't kick my ass. The only thing you can control is what YOU post. So if you want this conversation to end, just don't respond. The choice is yours. If you really are tired of talking to me, do not reply. Problem solved.

  • This is the edited version when r

They noticed the hanging so the cut in the bird to. Spread his wings as the munchkin swung back and forth

  • how can u be hanged side ways really now O_O

  • its a bird how does that look like a person any way???

  • it's a bird

  • haha it IS a bird!

i just heard about all this nonsense. [about the whole hanging munchkin thing]

but in this video it's very clear that it's a bird.

  • NO, they edited the bird IN!

  • its a bird thats even noticeable through the crapy quality

  • personally i never saw the suicide part you're all talking about, it always looked like a bird.

  • lol great comment llorac83

  • I read about this and it's actually a wild crane.

  • Morons, its a big fricken ostridge.

  • Not an ostrich..is spelled that way, but a a bird.

  • this is clearly a bug ass ostrich. if you look before its wings spread you can see that its an ostrich you can even see its beak go down. thanks for uploading this. :D

  • Not true...Buddy Ebsen didn't find out he was allergic to the makeup until 2 wks after filming started, and withdrew from the role after being hospitalized b/c of it...in fact, he was home recuperating @ the time this scene was shot. Also, Ebsen didn't kill himself, considering he died of natural causes in 2003(!), making him the oldest surviving non-Munchkin cast member.

Oh, and the movie was made by MGM, not Disney...I don't think Disney even did live action until the 40s.

  • No he didn't, he died in 2003 at the age of 95.

  • That's like a big ol' ostrich.

  • Or, a crane.

  • Or! an Emu.

    Either way it's a bird :)

  • I heard a crane from the L.A. zoo. I saw on a video a crane or emu from the L.A. or San Diego zoos. But a bird..yes.

  • we watched this in Theater today and my Theater teacher pointed it out its a bird not a muchkin

  • IT's my dog O MY GOSH HELP GET HIM OUT

  • That's a bird

  • how do people even see someone hangin

  • its a peacock

  • most definately agree, JohnSilverfan01.

you can clearly see the bird put its head to the ground, you can see his beak go up, and you can see its wings spread out.

  • Yes, they also had some kind of stork, a raven, and a toucan on the same set. I've spotted them every time I watch.

  • And I'm not being offensive to you, my dear. I'm just saying this to all the viewers out there who really think that you can see someone hanging on screen. It's no offense to you.

  • This is the dumbest thing I've heard and seen. There's no one committing suicide here. That's an African Crowned Crane stretching its wings out.

If someone was to hang himself on a set, do you think that the crew behind the camera would notice it and yell CUT? Maybe there was a suicide, but it is nowhere on screen at all. It's obvious that it happen behind the camera or something. There is no hanging munchkin on screen at all. AT ALL!!!

  • It's definitely a large bird. MGM had animals from the San Diego Zoo and LA zoo in the film including large birds. Jerry Maren, one of the lollipop kids, said that no munchkin committed suicide during the production. Plus, no munchkins were at the MGM Studio when this scene was shot, they weren't even needed till later on in the production.

  • omg holy shit!!!

  • Omg why is there so many arguments and controversy over this. If you look in the background right before the actors turn around and take off, you can clearly see a large bird bending over and then bringing its neck back up.. and then it spreads its wings right after they pass it. Get lives people. Get lives.

  • It's definitely a bird. People do not hang themselves upside down.

and for all of you that say we need to look on the "black and white version", the Oz scenes were ALWAYS in color, because that was the whole point, for her life to be black and white, and the oz 'dream' to be color.

  • Exactly...nice to see someone else "gets it". :-) In fact, they actually decided to film Kansas in B&W and Oz in color before the very first script draft was even written.

  • defo a bird......if its a munchkin swinging to his death im sure out of all the producers, directors and actors would of seen this before, during or after the shoot was taken or being taken.coming from an acting background this would defo have been spotted by at least one person while filming. while filming producers and directors and actors are aware of there surroundings of what should be in shot and what shouldn't be in shot or what is in shot!! get a grip people !!!

  • @ThatOneGirlx3XD

    What if they're bungee jumping?

  • This is all sorted out in "Wizard of Oz 3: Dorothy goes to hell." Paradoxes and that sort of thing.

  • omg my teacher sed sumtin bout tht

  • freeze at 10 and you can see its neck and head. Birdie Birdie

  • it was originally a person then they edited in a bird..

  • Wrong. It was always a bird.

  • this is a bird people, they brought in all kinds of exotic birds from around the world to be on the set!

  • People are stupid

  • for years i thought it was a hanging but never really looked into it. but now its settled, is it a ghost boy on set or a cardboard cutout of the dad from his early years in 3 men and a little baby. its when his mother visits and carries baby around the apartment.

  • mkaayyy

thats a bird errr pee cock thingyy.

you have to see the black and white version.

they edited out the scene in the new versio

  • There is no "B&W version", the Oz scenes were always in color...look it up.

  • it's a bird people, watch that entire scene and you'll see the bird throughout the song

  • dumb retarded people this a new version the movie see the original black and white.....and i bet your all lil kids how about you research deeper freaking idiots.....

  • Maybe you're the one who needs to "research deeper"...there is no B&W version, the Oz scenes were always shot in color, which any book on the making of the film will tell you.

  • i think its a muchigan!

  • omg i always thought it was a munchkin but now its a total bird

  • Wow, a relly great picture ... OF A BIRD!

  • seen the movie 10 times my moms seen it more its another stupid urban legend knocking at ur front door

  • they had a petting zoo type thing on set. if you look into earlier scenes a few seconds before the "hanging", you can see a bird behind dorothy and the scarecrow and tinman's heads. Its obviously a bird and not a munchkin, because you can see a BIRD stretch its wings. Its obvious guys.

  • Yeah, really...also, a peacock can be seen wandering near the Tin Man's cottage earlier in the scene. And even before that scene, there's the crow who steals a piece of the Scarecrow's straw just before "If I Only Had a Brain".

  • it cant be a bird cuz theres no way they would have a big bird indooors like that and if you look closely you can see him climbing onto sumthing maby 5 sec before u see him hanging himself

  • Yeah it does look like her is climbing onto something. Why on earth would a big bird be roaming around a film studios?

  • joey---its a bird

  • first of all, who would thought it was a munchkin commiting suicide??

  • There are many places on the Internet that talk about this part of the movie. According to what I've read it certainly isn't a munchkin committing suicide. It certainly does look like a moving bird (probably made out of cardboard or something) that the movie people created for the background of this scene. It wasn't even noticed until it was able to be paused and slowed down on a VHS tape or a DVD.

  • it is a bird ;]

& you can see it's just pecking at the ground. :D

and if it was someone hanging themselves, they'd tie the rope around their neck, not their legs.

  • I saw the movie today and I could see clearly that it was a bird.

  • Why do people always ask "what would a bird be doing on a closed set?" The same reason there are trees and cabins and such- they're making a MOVIE, and this particular scene takes place in a forest, and guess what, sometimes there are birds in forests. No one is suggesting that a random bird wandered in and popped up in the background uninvited.

  • Yeah, really...why are people so skepitcal that a bird could be present on an indoor set, but have no prob believing that a Munchkin supposedly hung himself and managed to go unseen by an entire film crew?

  • Looks like an Emu or an Ostrich to me. It pecks the ground on the right, then spreads its wings.

  • itss nott.

    a munchkinn its

    a birdd.

    youhh and see

    itss standdinng tall.

    look carefully youhh

    cann seee itss bodyy<

  • idk since the movie is shot all indoors why would a crane be there and it might just be a munchkin

  • It looks like a crane facing away from the camera. It's pecking at the ground, then lifts its head. It pecks at the ground again then lifts its head again. It then stretches out its wings at the end. How people can think that's a munchkin hanging himself is beyond me.

  • But what the hell would a CRANE be doing in a CLOSED SET at MGM Studios, or where ever this was filmed, there wouldnt be a crane,

in my oppion it looks to be a person, but im unsure

  • It actually looks like a stork moreso then a crane, but anyway I don't see how having animals on a closed set is so shocking. They had animals on the set (these were borrowed from the L.A zoo), including a peacock that can be seen wandering around in front of the Tin Man's shack just before Dorothy and the Scarecrow try to revive him.

  • Lmao.. why would a munchkin hang him/herself anyway.. on the set even

  • has anyone noticed that the scarcrow looks at the "hanging munchkin" as he falls. next time you watch the clip take a look

  • did he really commit suicide?

  • lol it looks like a monkey hanging from a tree

  • Well(if you know anything about film making)you NEVER let an animal run around the set and that's a very random bird. The only REAL bird you see in that scene is a SMALL peacock.(seen only ONCE in the whole movie.)Answer me this. How would it get back there so fast? And it would be tied up so it can't run around. If you think the backround(BG)is painted you're wrong because in that time there wasn't enough time to paint every BG.The BG used is called a "Backdrop",a curtain which can cast a shadow.

  • I would recommend that you read the history of the movie. There were birds on the set on loan from the LA zoo, including the crane that some thinks is a dead munchkin. The backgrounds are painted, too. I'm not sure what you mean by it getting back there "so fast". I don't see it running in any scenes.

I guess the film makers knew nothing about film making. There are plenty of animals in the film... horses, pigs, chickens, etc. Toto is a real dog, by the way, and he's running loose.

  • Narfer2000 (and everyone else with this view.) I just want to suggest that there isn't a bird that looks like that and was computer animated in for the "restored" version. people are just guessing what kind of "bird" it is but, their suggestions do not fit the "bird" in the image.

  • There was no computer animation in 1939. Yeesh.

  • For all of you people who think he suicide is a hoax answer me this. What kind of bird is it? peacock?... NO!! Emu?...NOO! Ostrage? NOOO!!! Crane? NOOOOO!! The "bird" you see can't be any of these for various reasons: A Peacock is too small to be seen there, It's not an Emu because Emus DON'T HAVE WINGS!!! It's not and Ostrage because it's wings are too skinny and WAAAY too long and not fluffy. And finally it is not a crane because it's beak isn't long enough!! Use your eyes and THINK PEOPLE!!!!

  • Yea I dunno what kind of bird it is but if you "use your eyes" like you say can you not clearly see its a bird? Seems pretty obvious to me. This isn't exactly the patterson big foot tape or anything

  • it's a giant fucking turkey,....TADA!

  • its so hard to tell

it looks like legs sticking up but why would the body be sideways

  • thats exactly what i thought!!!!

  • yeah but now i can see its a bird

  • I still see a bird like most people but I can understand how you can also see the suicide.

  • its definatley a bird cuz i have the movie and you can see it much better than on the computer. and before it even flaps its wings you can see it move its head up then down and you can see it standing in front of the tree, plus my moms a big wizard of oz finatic and she told me that it was a bird that they brought in to make the forest look more real

  • That is very clearly a giant bird. I heard they got the animals from the San Diego Zoo.

  • Yeah, don't be so harsh on Joey guys...

  • THANK YOU!

  • THIS ISN'T SPAM, DON'T MARK IT AS SUCH:

There was a giant bird on stage simply for the reason that they wanted to make the forest scene look more realistic with a bird in the forest that moved, on the big screen, you can CLEARLY see the bird, but when it was filmed on VHS and showed on the much smaller screen; of course it was going to be contorted and shrunk to look like some "munchkin" hanging himself.

Its actually a bird NOT A person committing suicide. Sorry to break it to you.

  • i dont why people are writing "sorry to break it to you" because im just asking for opinions...i think its a bird too....so dont think that i thought it was a munchkin....

  • Dude...it's a bird. On the commentary they even say that they were filming near a zoo that had a collection of exotic birds.

  • i think so too....i just wanted to replay the vid and see...im asking for what other people think too...thanks for the comments

  • Look on other videos of the same footage. It's clearly, beyond doubt, a bird. It in fact acknowledges them with the wing spread as they dance by in perfect timing. I can't believe I even looked this up on youtube. I just wasted five minutes I'll never get back.

  • it's a bird....the very original version is the only one that had it and only like...100 or so copy's were distributed....this was the cover up. if you look on the right side of the "suicide" there's the other wing....sorry
