Maybe the suicide pill was originally a "suicide" option in development, but they decided it'd make more sense to just make it a pill, since you could spend all your ammo.

Suicide? That would have been really interesting to see in the game, especially if the AI chose to do it. Or, instead of a scientist turning on you, they pull out a gun and shoot themselves... man, that's really interesting.

I like how creative they got with the AI animations, but never used them in the end.
