Mintoff was elected to power democratically both in 1971 and in 1976. in 1981 he lost the majority and resigned from Prime Minister and party leader, the man was loyal to his principles.

He even allowed their naval vessels to dock in Malta, after kicking NATO out. Maltese democracy suffered under him.

As far as the Church's declarations go, you need to accept that the Church has full authority to make pronouncements on what is acceptable, and what is not, for its members, fellow Catholics. And what has that got to do with what I said? The fact is that the church told its members to sort of boycott the labourites, from ringing church bells during the meetings, to accusing the labour party and its members that they will go to hell, not being laid to rest in the 'sacred' parts of the cemetery etc. It doesn't mean anything to you because YOU weren't affected by this personally.

I know for certain my family had everything we wanted through hard work....
