  • When did democracy exist in the glorious 60s? when we returned to the Middle ages as it was a mortal sin to vote Labour or even read a Labourite newspaper.

Mintoff was elected to power democratically both in 1971 and in 1976. in 1981 he lost the majority and resigned from Prime Minister and party leader, the man was loyal to his principles.

The faxxisti hate him just because he was a patriot and considered Malta as the top priority.

  • ...Funny and pathetic though he now seems, let's not forget that when Mintoff was leader, Malta became less democratic. Mintoff is an extreme Socialist, and his policies were fierce and damaging. He attacked the Church mercilessly, he tried to close all private schools, he stole the National Bank from the hands of shareholders, and he actively supported the Soviet Union. He even allowed their naval vessels to dock in Malta, after kicking NATO out. Maltese democracy suffered under him.

  • Attacked the church mercilessly? Are you trying to be funny? Have you forgotten the slogans by the church, that anyone voting for labour will go to hell? Labourites not buried in cemeteries? Ignorance spouted by the church (as per usual) against labourites?

Have you forgotten? I don't think so.

  • Are you serious ? Or else pretending that Mintoff did not attack the Church at every single opportunity ? You are either incredibly ignorant, or dishonest. As far as the Church's declarations go, you need to accept that the Church has full authority to make pronouncements on what is acceptable, and what is not, for its members, fellow Catholics. You cant be part of the Church and then attack it when it warns you against certain politics. The Church had a duty to warn, and it did so.Deal with it.

  • And what has that got to do with what I said? The fact is that the church told its members to sort of boycott the labourites, from ringing church bells during the meetings, to accusing the labour party and its members that they will go to hell, not being laid to rest in the 'sacred' parts of the cemetery etc. It doesn't mean anything to you because YOU weren't affected by this personally.

  • Your comments reveal your ignorance. If you knew anything you would know that extreme leftism is incompatible with Christianity. The Church was warning its people of this truth, and for that it was hated. The lying Mintoff even had photo's of himself shaking hands with the Pope, and circulated them in Malta, to pretend that he was no enemy of the Church. But as soon as he was elected he scrapped the peace accord with the Church and set about attacking it.These are facts about your two-faced Mintoff.

  • Stop calling me ignorant. The only ignorant people are religious people who believe everything they're fed, with no evidence or scientific facts to back their opinions up. I believe you call these lies 'faith'. It's pretty ironic to go about calling me ignorant, not to mention rude.

  • Anyway, the church should stay far, far away from politics. Having full authority to make pronouncements doesn't mean it's the right thing to do to spread lies and feed on people's ignorance.

  • And as far as your complaint about the Church ringing a few bells during MLP meetings, you sound pathetic. You remeber this, but conveniently forget to mention the many, many vicious anti-Church poliicies Mintoff pushed- too many to mention all here-but you should know them. And don't think you can lecture me.I lived through the Mintoff era-I know what an undemocratic extremist he really is.A pity there are still brainwashed Maltese like you who worship this false idol.

  • It's ironic calling me brainwashed, coming from a religious person.

What have you got to say about the *fact* that Malta's treasury was overflowing with money, and when the nationalist party was in government they reduced it to nothing. Actually, less than nothing - we learned the word 'deficit'. Stop trying to make Mintoff look like the devil, Malta can only wish to have as much money as we used to in those days. I know for certain my family had everything we wanted through hard work....

  • @xuerebx damn right dude,Mintoff's the man,socialism ftw.

  • And now? Now we've got nothing. (continued as it didn't fit in one comment).

  • yeah, ain't that something? lol!!!

that was funny, an old man, swearing and hitting a camera man with a walking stick.

wasn't funny when he was in power though!

    we lived in terror.

enjoy your freedom, we fought for it for you!
