  • Holy crap see that lawnmower? I'd hate to be sucked into that thing. I'd be cut into a million pieces

  • in the thumbnail nick looks sooo much like steve carell!

  • L O L @6:08 Her life is TOO FUNNY

  • daisy is such a flirt... but she is so attractive

  • It was a photograph of half a dozen young men in blazers loafing in an archway through which were visible a host of spires. There was Gatsby, looking a little, not much, younger — with a cricket bat in his hand.

Forgot this part in the movie! ha

  • love gatsby's eyes :) pretty color

  • Gatsby is fuckin boss

  • Is Wolfshiem the same man who played Ben Franklin in 1776?

  • @sistersMA yes

  • Gatsby is good looking, haha

  • I wish I had Mr. Wolfsheim's voice.

  • @ToniAqua I was thinking the saaaaaaaaame thing lol

  • @19mmpp yea that's the point if you watch the rest of the movie/read the book (I recommend it) you'll see that gatsby does infact come from a poor background but thinks to be accepted in society must perceive the facade of having a rich family just like daisy so he feels the need to spin this over planned lie

  • WOAH! Here is a bizarre connection, to those who are interested. Lois Chiles, who played Jordan also played Ms. Mittermiller in Disney's 1996 movie Wish Upon a Star.

Like I said, for anyone who is interested.

  • didnt gatsby say hs family died or something. n thats so he inherited his money,,?

  • sooo pissed the new one doesnt come out until Dec. urrgh!!!

  • Jay Gatsby is a babe

  • Gatsby peek of boo

  • Bahhahahaa! How does Daisy intend to hear Nick when her ear is covered?!@?!?!?

  • I wish I could be Gatsby's neighbour!

  • 4:40 - 5:00, why is jordan so sexy, anyone know?

  • 6:14 & 6:23 BEST LAUGHS EVER <3

  • they are always so sweaty!!

  • @normandyangel first of all.... Daisy isn't Nick's cousin. She was a second cousin twice removed. No blood relation at all.... read the book. And second, Daisy doesn't literally love him, she is using verbal irony, sarcasm. She just loves him as family.

  • Read the book if you have'nt seen the film! Its so much better

  • if I were Nick I'd be like...uhhh PEACE

  • that awkward moment when at 4:31 they walk by a building that was built in the 70's

  • ASDFASDF I WANTED NICK TO KISS JORDAN :(

  • they did not have air condition in 1917

  • If you are watching this movie because you are too lazy to read the book... don;t. You WILL fail.

  • thumbs up if all the girls in this movie look alike.

  • such cheesy special effects on the tea set

  • why does daisy think her cousin loves her..she is obviously out to lunch

  • daisy :really she has to have a maid hold her phone while she is the tub..that's just sad

  • i know it has to be stinky in there no deodorant i they had perfume but perfume and sweat do not mix! in the book wasnt he 50 years old did they have to change everything..lol

  • What a handsome man..

  • Everyone is sweaty because it's supposed to be an extremely hot summer, for all the people wondering why :)

  • Something like this happened to me.

  • I discussed this movie and book at length with a man who'd adored me for years, waited for me after each marriage, yet was commitment phobic. I asked nothing of him and we had many good periods together, but finally, I moved to Europe. He called me for five years, wrote, recorded songs about me. Very sad. At one point he asked me to marry him, but it was too late. Though nine years my senior, I knew he'd never grow up. I don't know why some men are this way -- I really don't!

  • audio is so godamn low

  • Wasn't it raining when Daisy and Gatsby met...?

  • ROFL. Why is everyone sweaty? Did they not have Air on set or something? XD

  • That hat is something serious

  • Comment removed

  • I have a test tommorow dammit

  • Jordan is freakin' hot.

  • thumbs up if you are watching this in 2011

  • in the book it was 2 minutes to four.

  • "rosy rosen rawrawraw" ^^

  • Robert Redford reminds me of Brad Pitt in this movie

  • its so SHINY!

  • hey, almost got some T&A

  • Guess Air conditioning wasnt too popular back then

  • For school !

  • Am I the only one that thinks that thinks Brad Pitt looks like Redford?

  • @lolathesurfer No, lots of people do. xD

  • Why is Daisy so annoying?! omg.

  • gatsby is very handsome...:)

  • I do believe Redford seriously thought about taking his own life after he finished reel

3 (of a total of 17). I'll bet he still has nightmares to this day. What do you think old sport? I 'll never understand why the guy who played the bodyguard wasn't nominated for supporting actor................unless he died of shame before the 4th reel.

  • god, robert's smile just melts my heart <3

  • I've always thought that Nick and Jordan had amazing chemistry in the movie. In the book, you can tell that they're wrong for each other in the long run, but in the film it's not quite so clear.

  • I've never really watched this movie before, as I fell asleep the first time. Now that I'm seeing it again, I'm getting the feeling that Tom Buchanan is a complete...whats the word...AH forgive me, but I must say that Tom is a bit of an asshole...he's got that quality that annoys me to death...like he's better than everyone else...sickening type if you ask me.

  • The man at the table who gets up and leaves, he says that he is 60 years old, when really he is in his 50's.

upvote so people don't get this wrong on there tests.

  • @DanMizter THEIR TESTS THEIR TESTS THEIR TESTS. T-H-E-I-R tests. Sweet Jesus. And really, you ought to read the damn book. It only takes about four hours to read. And it's a masterpiece. YOU ARE NOT AN EDUCATED PERSON UNLESS YOU HAVE READ "The Great Gatsby!"

  • @angryliberal1984 that's a matter of opinion, my friend

  • @flybirdy12347 Well, that's the opinion of a great many educated people then. And that should count for something.

  • @angryliberal1984 not necessarily

  • @flybirdy12347 Why is "The Great Gatsby" part of the curriculum of almost any high school then? I cannot believe this is a debate for anyone. READ THE BOOK. Then you'll agree - it's something everyone should do.

  • @angryliberal1984 Why? Because the state requires it, or rather, they, the state's legislature, shove it down schools' throats to read it. Because of this, most students don't enjoy reading it, which is perfectly understandable. They are given a week at most to read this and the teacher, who has most likely read it numerous times, is bored sick of teaching it and the students are given the bare minimum - little time for analyzing, etc.

And, I have read it. What's your opinion, is your opinion.

  • @flybirdy12347 Look, so what if teenagers don't ENJOY the book? Is that a good reason not to read it? And most of the time, the state does not require it. High school teachers try to find the best literature and time and again, pick this book. And millions and millions of people have found it a great book. People should not watch a video and skip the book! Don't play the cheap "That's-just-your-opinion" game. What is great literature then? Harry Potter? See if anyone reads that in 70 years.

  • @angryliberal1984 You are the one who brought up the topic of the book being in a high school's curriculum - I was just responding.

Good lord, you are quite impossible to have a conversation with. No, excuse me, this is not EVEN a conversation. You sure do think you know quite a bit - well news flash buddy, YOUR opinion might not match everyone else's!

  • @flybirdy12347 You think all opinions are equally valid - and they simply are not. Virtually ALL highly educated, trained people in literature think that reading "The Great Gatsby" - versus watching a video on youtube - is a worthwhile activity. Look back @ the comment I was answering - the guy does not how to spell THEIR. That guy needs to read the book - not watch the video version. And he needs to read a lot more books, too. Find me ONE serious scholar who says the book is over-rated.

  • @angryliberal1984 And now you are putting words into my mouth?

And what is highly educated? Good lord. I'd rather be knowledgeable than a sorry sop like you.

& I do agree-watching a movie rather than reading the book that is is just lazy.

& for the person who cannot spell "their"-reading the "Great Gatsby" has nothing to do with that. But yes, catching up on some reading would most likely do him some good.

I'll let you take care of seeking out that scholar-you sure do seem to place yourself high

  • @flybirdy12347 - Well, friend, I have not insulted you, have I? I am not a sorry sop and no, I don't place myself high - I place FITZGERALD high. He wrote beautifully and created a book that captured not just the spirit of his age, but part of the human spirit. His work is a transcendent balm for the soul. More than anything, I feel sad you can't see that. Maybe one day you will come around. As Fitzgerald put it, "So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."

  • @angryliberal1984 NOWWWW you sound human!! But then again - it is so hard to communicate through technology as it is so difficult to understand how a person means to get something across. I am sorry if I have insulted you.

I can promise you, I will give Fitzgerald another go. But like Hemingway, I think Fitzgerald's writing is too masculine for me. But hopefully, in a few years, I can come back to it and fully appreciate it.

  • How cool to see veteran character actor Howard DaSilva as Meyer Wolfsheim in that scene in the fancy schmanzy restaurant with Gatsby & Carroway. Mr DaSilva played the garage owner Wilson in the 1949 version that starred Alan Ladd. Sadly, Mr DaSilva's film career was sidetracked in the 50's due to blacklisting. His liberal leanings made many think he was a Communist. A sad time in American history.

  • 0:52 correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a picture of Muhammad Ali, who was born twenty years AFTER this time period?

  • @AmyandRickyForever Nope. That is Jack dempsey in his 1919 fight against Jess Willard.

  • @AmyandRickyForever maybe its joe louis idk good eye

  • Aren't they all supposed to be sweating because it's summer time on Long Island?

  • @THEBIGCAGEY calm down bro they're just sayin' is all

  • ."I see you've been looking I my cuff button.." I lol'd. alot.

  • who would have known Gatsby is Batman

  • @THECaptainPlanetHD Your comment made me laugh. As I was reading the book, and watching this movie, I got the feeling that Mr. Gatsby was very similar to Bruce Wayne. The strong silent type, who, behind the mask, doesn't really care about his mansion and his possessions. It's all just a cover.

  • everyone seems to be sweating balls...

  • Mmmm Gatsby..

  • That Gatsby is quite the looker

  • I find it kind of funny how everyone is sweating, it makes them all look like they smell.

  • @DraconianSilenced They probably do :D

  • If you guys read the book, you would've known that it was during the summer. And everyone was complaining about how hot it was, the heat also symbolizes something.

  • @whiteipod2000 liar liar pants on fire its hot

  • the book was lovely; so lovely I bought my own copy 8'D too bad they altered a lot of things in the movie )':

    and omg, lovely suit Gatsby!

  • Comment removed

  • Usually I'd complain if a movie didn't match up to a book...but good God I'm blinded by Gatsby's gorgeousness :|

  • They don't make 'em like Robert Redford anymore....holy crap.

  • Robert Redford, you've stolen my heart!

  • why is tom really really tan all the time?

  • @HolyAerith i think thats how its supposed to be.

  • FAIL. this isnt the way it was in the book.

thanks for uploading though, coralchris ^-^

  • Finest specimens of human molars

  • Every body is fucking sweating in this movie WTF!! did they hav no AC on the set? teehee

  • Meyer needed more screen time, his actor was pretty good.

  • If Gatsby had sweat anymore the room would have flooded :/

  • If there was a modern version of The Great Gatsby, Daisy's theme song would be "Gold Digger." Now I aint sayin she's a gold digger, but she sure aint messin' with no broke. LOL

  • @shahoney she was already rich lol tom is the gold digger

  • @normandyangel nah tom was rich too. that's why she married him :P

  • That house is too small for Nick. It makes him look like a giant. o_o

  • i read these horribly written, grammatically incorrect comments and wonder... how on earth would these students understand the freakin' book... then i realize why they're watching the film version in lieu of reading for their English homework assignment!

  • @ssotkow I just read the book and it is full of grammar and spelling mistakes.

  • in the novel Nick was....sahdier

  • what chapter is this in the story ?

  • Rich, a recluse, able to disappear at will...Is Gatsby Batman?

  • @Irishflyboy255 no,but roumers go that thier "related"! also that hes not a man at all! who knows what he is.

  • @Irishflyboy255 I saw another comment comparing Gatsby to Batman and it made me laugh a little. I was thinking the exact same thing. Very similar to Bruce Wayne. They both wear a mask and deep down, don't really care about their possessions because it's all just a cover.

  • wolfsheim is based on rothstein, the greatest crook of the 20th century.

  • We watching dis shiii in mr Gilliam class.lol

  • I think Eric Close is the "reincarnation" of Robert Redford

  • @123randombabe Not true! :) my friends and I watched this movie and were smitten by Robert Redford :)

  • MOTHER OF GOD, EVERYONE IS SO SWEATY

  • @whatareyoudoingbabs It's a symbol in the book. Sweatiness, uncomfortableness links in with having a guilty conscience.

  • @whatareyoudoingbabs Summer heat was unbearable. The family was sent away to the country for the hot season, and the husband lived at the club. One of the reasons collars and cuffs were so tight were to keep in body odor!

  • Gatsby's looks with Nick's personality is the perfect man!

  • Who is Nick talking to at 1:57?

  • Other than Robert Redford, this movie has some of the worst casting I've ever seen. They must have blown the whole budget on the star.

  • thumbs up if u r watching this for school :)

  • @jojogirl2008 n i hate it. im tryna not read the book :)

  • is it just me or does everyone seem to be really sweaty in this film? :/

  • @ElephantHelicopter its cause its summer when they were filming i guess

  • @TheFinalEpic But it just seems to be the men? haha :P

  • Why does everyone always seem to be sweating in this movie?

  • @ariana19941993 restaurants were hot as balls back then. There was no big form of AC.

  • @ariana19941993

Because they're wearing suits in the summer time and there is no air conditioning.

  • omg imi the only teenager here who is in love with robert redfort

  • LOL *sees gatsby* *turn + DRAMATIC LOOK*

  • I felt like Jay Gatsby when my friend Avery's cousin came to long beach island with my family. She was very pretty. and I really wanted to flirt with her.

  • Gatsby is sexy :P

  • im watching this for school :)

  • @ptomczak16 same

  • who's watching this for school?

  • @3FourThree me

  • O_O i want that kind of neighbor that gives me stuff lol

  • Jordan Baker is soooo fit

  • How I wish for the day that a man looks at me just as Gatsby looked at Daisy.

  • call me dumb but i don't understand the first scene with the older man at all

  • does nick oil himself up or did the directors choose a guy who sweats alot to play him?

  • Comment removed

  • @bb33nnii its supposed to be a really hot setting in the book so everybody is really sweaty

  • @lefty4life1313 i no that, i read the book. but nick just looks sweaty all the time lol

  • but where is fredie , daisy's driver ? =))

  • @rulzgirls1 fernando*

  • Nick's accent keeps changing from British, to Old New Yorker to Standard American.....BAAAAAAD VOICE ACTOR=)

  • Redford IS the Gatsby!!

  • i like the dramatic music at the end LOL

  • Comment removed

  • I wish Jordan would do that to my lips....

  • haha: "For mr. Gatsby"--Nick--"PASS"

  • these people seem to be the 1920s version of the X generation or emo kids...they're all emotionally constipated

  • robert redford was sexy!

  • 3:17 They're both like "WTF? He's gone!"

  • "I have to get the grass cut"

    "You mean 'my grass'"

-> After that, Jay does send a man to cut Nick's grass. This scene sometimes confuses me, but when I understand it, I realize how brilliant it is.
