  • I'm shocked at all these people who think water fasting is healthy or intelligent. These people are the same kind of people who fall for get-rich-quick schemes. No healthy, fit, good-looking person got that way by starving his or herself. They got that way by PHYSICAL EXERCISE and EATING HEALTHY MEALS of calculated a chloric size three to five times per day. That is literally all it takes. How dare people compare detoxing from hard drugs to getting sick from starving oneself by fasting.

  • When you're done fasting, you have to eat RAW, for AT LEAST one day per week you were fasting. And you have to exercise. The point of fasting is to cleanse your body, and kickstart a change in your eating habits. You can't just stop fasting, and go back to eating Taco Bell for every breakfast, lunch, dinner, and fourthmeal, and lay around on your bed all day, complaining about how horrible your life is. Every single person I know who has fasted has had excellent results, during AND after.

  • when water fasting after your done trying to get off of it you start to drink juice because it has sugar in it which restarts your body because sugar gives you energy then you start on liquidated foods,then you slowly start to eat solid food. When trying to do any diet talk to a dietician or physician,you didnt know what you were you were doing you sabbatoged yourself! You couldve killed yourself,thats why they say consult a doctor before any diet you try. ;/

  • darling, you don't need to fast for so long. In my own experience, fasting for one or two days regularly (once a week or a fortnight) is more than good enough. Also make sure you eat the "right" thing in between. All the best. :)

  • You did it all wrong! I've found the perfect way to fast! Now this is not a complete fast, but still, it works!

    First off, never fast over a ten days or you will start harming your body and you're body's metabolism will be messed up even after you get off the fast, just like this lady!

    In the mornings eat a very small portion of oatmeal or veggies and drink plenty of water! Do some light exercises during the fast. After the fast is over, slowly add to your daily supplement of food.

  • @Anoush13 Starvation Mode = An excuse for people who lose weight or fast and regain their weight after stuffing their face out. That's all it is. True starvation mode doesn't set in until you're clinically underweight. Your metabolism does slow down, but not not as much as dieting magazines and psuedoscientists say.

  • If water fasting did not work for you, try Weight Watcher, Jenny Craig, Nutri-System, or any number of free online sites (Fitday, Livestrong, etc.) with tools to help you mange calories and lose weight. The bottom line is you need to start exercising and stop eating garbage. As you can tell by the ratings, bitching about gaining 40 lbs, while lying in bed looking like a lazy slob doesn't exactly garner sympathy. I don't mean to be rude, but you've really embarrassed yourself .

First of all you are presenting yourself as a slob, look at you, you cant even sit up and fix yourself up for the world to see. This is not the ugly side of fasting this is the ugly side of you. Many people heal themselves by water fasting for centuries. Obviously you didnt break the fast correctly, and the weight gain was not due to your fast, but due to your gluttonous eating habits...Im sure....try again!

  • Why do people fast in such an extreme way? Intermittent fasting according to Lean Gains, Warrior Diet, or Eat Stop Eat allow you to break your fast every single day. There are just basic rules of eating which is basically - don't eat the way that made you a fat ass, eat opposite to it. Someone as fat as you shouldn't be so extreme, it took you years to become a slob and will take time to realistically lose weight and keep it off. It's a lifestyle change, not a month crash diet.

  • The purging that you experienced near the end of the fast is supposed to happen. The stomach is purging bile for a reason and you have to break the fast properly. If you rushed back into eating solids too quickly, you will gain the weight. No offense, but your experience is in a small minority of people with negative experiences, and all of them broke their fasts in the wrong manner.

  • You started vomiting because you didn't break your fast properly. Breaking it properly will prevent swelling. The number of days you were on the fast is the number of days you need to take to break your fast. Also, if you don't change your eating habits, you're going to gain all the weight back.

I suffer from a condition that affects my hormones that makes maintaining my weight very difficult.   • I am on a fast right now, 3days in, and I intend to post my post fast results I really think you rboke your fast wrong. you were not suppose to have a salad and soup right out the fast, and you are surely not suppose to go eat fatty foods that first week even if you do take protein in. Along with this video you should have posted the things you ate, I bet it wasnt baked fish, veggies, chicken breast, etc etc.

  • This lady's body was not at all prepared for the fast. A fast should be preceded by a natural fruit and vegetable diet. It all depends on what you have been eating all your life. Your body may need to prepare yourself for a month maybe before you go on to a long fast. The negative effects would have never occurred. You eat junk food or meats all your life and then go on a long fast and then go back again on the same diet!!!

  • To all you haters out there, it's well known that depriving your body of food can trigger a starvation reaction causing weight gain. The best way to lose weight in my experience is weight watchers, You only lose 1-2 pounds a week, on average, but it stays off. When I was on weight watchers I wasn't even hungry and lost weight.

  • Umm, well let me tell you this. When your body doesn't get food for a long period of time it goes in to starvation mode. THEN if you eat you'll eat and eat and eat non stop. It's what happens, it's called binging. That's what anorexics and bulimics do. The only difference are that they strugge with it every day. Then after you were done it's no wonder you gained all the weight back, it happens. Only those 40 pounds could really have been controlled :)

  • To me, one of the biggest reasons for fasting is a spiritual purpose. Did you pray everyday during your fast......You see fasting without prayer is just starvation.....and when your 30 fast was done I think you should have just stuck with fruits and veggies

  • Fasting you lose both muscle AND fat. Your body doesn't know you are doing it on purpose and it wants to survive and it is very good at adapting your BMR and muscle wasting in order to have you live longer. That is how humans used to get through famin and still do. Then when you start eating again you don't have the same amount of muscle so your metabolism isn't as fast. Plus you lowered your BMR via starvation. So anything you lost you will gain back PLUS more.

    the other thing you said, the bile coming up -- even the foods you can eat, you gotta go real slow after a fast, as the body's production of acids has completely shut down!

  • REAL EXPLANATION OF WHAT HAPPENED: i've experienced everything you mentioned. please read Diet Wise by Dr Scott-Mumby -- extremely important book regardless of what diet you're on. basically, almost all people are genetically incompatible with certain foods, most commonly wheat or milk, but it can be ANY food. but when you eat it everyday, it's masked, you just have low-grade nagging problems. but eliminate it for a couple weeks & reintroduce it, & the body is shocked - EDEMA & FEVER are common!

A fast causes your body to re-calibrate.. and you get more nutrients, and calories from the food you eat.. So really when your fast is done, you should not be eating like you were previously; also this video was not very informative; other than informing us of your unhealthy state before the fast... and your binge eating after the fast.. You seem incredibly out of touch with your OWN body.

  • A balanced lifestyle is the only cure for "Negative self image". Lean a little too much one way or another and you will generally backlash psychologically, and physiologically se you can tell from her statements about gaining more after her fast. hopefully she learned enough from the experience to attempt to drop weight responsibly and in moderation rather rashly contributing to the initially perceived problem. This is one of those "Think" things. Think B4 you act, and research everything.

  • actually..people have been going on 40 day water fasting for centuries for religious reasons, and basically be unharmed. It's not the water fasting that caused you harm, it was the fact you didn't do it correctly. Not to be a a-hole, but to undergo something like a water fast, it is highly recommended to fully research the subject before going on it. You're a beautiful woman, and you can lose all the weight you want with the knowledge, discipline, and planning to make your goals a reality.

  • See True North Health Centre. Long term fasting should never be undertaken unless it is supervised by a physician experienced in fasting. It takes great care in orer to insure a good result, especially in re-feeding and subsequent lifestyle.

  • That is because you have to go back to eating gradually. You first start with a fresh fruit juice preferably orange juice. You have to take a probiotic. Then drink a broth from a fresh veggie soup for a day, then eat the soup. Fasting is a great way to detox and get clear. When you fast you have to come off of it responsibly and if you dont watch what you eat and stay active you will gain weight. I am sure you werent eating very well when you returned to food again.

  • I have a gf who did this...followed the plan to a T. She is now in the hospital with aciles (water and fluids draining and collecting into the abdomen) because it sent her liver and kidneys into failure. She is now not allowed to drink more than 16 oz of water a day and had a tube in her belly where they drain her. 3 liters taken today.

  • When you fast, just like a baby has to be weaned onto solid food, so do we. After 3 days, a fast is long term & your body goes into starvation mode. Edema is definitely indicative of kidney stress or failure :-/. When you break your fast, you have to gradually add foods starting with veggies..no salt..no sugar. And you should stew them initially. No solid food until about 3 days after fasting. I heard you mention salt...can we say instant edema? Your experience is unique to you. Sorry.

  • I'm going to try fasting with just water for 1 month and nothing else even though I don't really need to . We'll see how it goes. :)

  • mabe you should hve done some more research in fasting. I have seen more than 50 people go through the fast before. And not one of them ever got edema. When you do it right you will lose the weight and, you can break it by following the correct way of doing it. You just fast for so many days you need to take it slow when starting to eat again.

  • its because you ate to much food, mabe even food that is labled unhealthy. after such a long time without eating your digestive system goes to rest and the FACT that you broke your fast the WRONG way is why you swelled. Trust me on this by experience. Your severally irritated your digestive system.... your need to brake a long term fast in steps, for your body sake~!!!! Please google how to brake a fast, and if done correctly you shouldn't have a bad aftermath!!!

  • Wow all that to lose weight then gain more back? How dumb are people. No offense, but what you think is so hard is much easier, healthier and less painful than this! It is pointless and self destructive! Just eat wholegrains instead of white flour, eat more vegetables and fruit and natural whole foods pretty much. And exercise and stick to it for the rest of your life. There you go.... No starving involved just preparation and logging in a journal.

  • You said after you broke the fast was when you had the negative side effects of vomiting bile and acids- what were you eating? I think that there are more ugly sides to the incorrect ways of breaking a fast than there actually are to being on a fast- especially a water fast- there would be nothing in your stomach to create those kinds of acids from just water. I believe that you broke your fast improperly and that is why you had such horrible consequences after.

    thats what i just ate...she didn't break her fast properly...she probably went back to eating the dame food she was eating before...after the fast you have to eat healthy...

  • I am sorry that you went through this. Weight loss can be extremely difficult but possible. I would suggest raw food, no oil...get oil from sardines, wild salmon..nuts and seeds...organic. avocado..don't chow down on healthfood junk. Limit fruit intake ..don't drink juices...eat mostly raw broccoli and deep greens and a little fruit...carrots..eat seaweed..regulates thyroid. eat raw buckwheat groats uncooked, uncooked raw wheat germ...try to get raw milk. I am semi-fasting now.

  • @LovinJae12 I would not recommed a fast, if you can except that death could result and willing to take the risk then go for it, but in my opinion, not worth it, I didn't know better at the time.
