Nothing in music really ever "dies", just goes round in circles. Only 10 years ago bands like Jet, The Vines, The Hives, The Strokes, The Datsuns, White Stripes etc. were all massive.....Rock 'n' roll sure as hell wasn't dead then. As for metal 10 years ago....beyond nu-metal it was nowhere to be seen. It's just the way it goes...we wanted to play what we wanted, you guys play it safe on something that's in fashion...no shame in that.

I've seen that small list of what you call your favorites, and I remember when i listened to metal like that, but my taste in metal changed. So I don't listen to it much now. Mostly due to the influences around me. That being said, metal is not all that I listen to.

The "door" of metal, american or european, has NEVER EVER been shut. What you mean is bands like AILD and Trivium packaged it for mass consumption "Sugar-Free Diet Melodeath" if you will.
@Paranoidave Metalcore originates from elements of metal and hardcore (Hints the term). I never said the door was shut. I mean it in the way that bands such as As I Lay Dying and Trivium, opened the door for AMERICAN metal. Creating a whole new fan base and new genres branching off it. More original than you think. Metalcore is a predominantly American movement. So i can see how you don't prefer it to power metal. That being said I know that's not all you listen to. Same for me. Just picking one

As I said before.....metalcore, American metal...it's ALWAYS been around. Just because the 13 year old you discovered some new bands back in '05 doesn't mean it was a significant event in music. Bands like Killswitch, Chimaira and PTW have been well-known for over 10 years now.

Besides I don't really hear much "hardcore punk" influence in metalcore. To be honest a mix of hardcore punk and metal = Crossover Thrash, more than anything!
Although I get the term Hardcore evolved into emotive hardcore, which at some point got it's name robbed by a bunch of pop-punk bands wearing eyeliner and tight pants.....and then some of these eyeliner tight pants brigade stole a couple of Swedish melodeath riffs, chucked some "3rd wave emo" choruses in. and presto!
@Paranoidave That's because most of the metaclore that is heard these days is actually Melodic Metalcore. True Metalcore has a heavy hardcore punk infulence. It's that the Melodic Metalcore is more pleasing to people. Yeah, my band's one of these bands, but I myself have played with Hardcore, Jazz, Blues, and a church group. And yeah, sometimes we tight pants, but that just rolls with the image. But we don't wear those fucking uber tight pants and eyeliner. We're not scene kids. Fuck that shit.

As far as true/ original bands, there's bands like Betzefer, Integrity, Earth Crisis, Converge, and bands of that nature. That's where metalcore came from. Melodic Metalcore is what it's become.
Just because some Scene kids haven't been amongst the 7 people that turn out to your gigs, does not detract from the FACT that Metalcore is a genre with a large scene kid following now does it?

@Paranoidave I didn't have much more space to go into detail. I shouldn't say listen, but rather they just show up and stand there and text or go attempt to smoke. They just hang around the venue and never get into any bands unless it's their close friends. And yeah, some of our friends do get into our music, but 95% of the time it's people we don't know coming up to us and giving us feedback.
I don't like your band too much, but I have enough respect to not make interpretation videos telling you how much you blow and that your not "real" metal. Good luck wrapping your head around that concept.

That being said every and any band have influences even if you don't realize it. If you have a preference in music and a style you enjoy that is automatically going to be an influence on you because no one makes music they don't like!
And yes EVERYTHING you listen to is from musical progression. The Beatles/Elvis started rock that came from soul and gospel. Metal is derived from rock thus evolution!

You put HEAVIER strings on to downtune, not lighter ones. If you put lighter ones on and downtuned you end up with a floppy mess that doesn't stay in tune.

Not really, it just meant he had floppier strings it wouldn't really effect the tone much....the fact he used custom built effects pedals and used a Bass input instead of a guitar one had a lot more to do with it.

Only 10 years ago bands like Jet, The Vines, The Hives, The Strokes, The Datsuns, White Stripes etc. were all massive.....Rock 'n' roll sure as hell wasn't dead then. I mean it in the way that bands such as As I Lay Dying and Trivium, opened the door for AMERICAN metal. Creating a whole new fan base and new genres branching off it. More original than you think. Metalcore is a predominantly American movement. So i can see how you don't prefer it to power metal. That being said I know that's not all you listen to. Same for me. Just picking one

Besides I don't really hear much "hardcore punk" influence in metalcore. To be honest a mix of hardcore punk and metal = Crossover Thrash, more than anything!
Although I get the term Hardcore evolved into emotive hardcore, which at some point got it's name robbed by a bunch of pop-punk bands wearing eyeliner and tight pants.....and then some of these eyeliner tight pants brigade stole a couple of Swedish melodeath riffs, chucked some "3rd wave emo" choruses in. and presto!

@Paranoidave That's because most of the metaclore that is heard these days is actually Melodic Metalcore. True Metalcore has a heavy hardcore punk infulence. It's that the Melodic Metalcore is more pleasing to people. Yeah, my band's one of these bands, but I myself have played with Hardcore, Jazz, Blues, and a church group. And yeah, sometimes we tight pants, but that just rolls with the image. But we don't wear those fucking uber tight pants and eyeliner. We're not scene kids. Fuck that shit.

That's just an image that we like. We play it because we like it. We're not doing it to make anyone happy, but ourselves. As far as true/ original bands, there's bands like Betzefer, Integrity, Earth Crisis, Converge, and bands of that nature. That's where metalcore came from. Melodic Metalcore is what it's become.

@Paranoidave I didn't have much more space to go into detail. I shouldn't say listen, but rather they just show up and stand there and text or go attempt to smoke. They just hang around the venue and never get into any bands unless it's their close friends. And yeah, some of our friends do get into our music, but 95% of the time it's people we don't know coming up to us and giving us feedback.

That being said every and any band have influences even if you don't realize it. If you have a preference in music and a style you enjoy that is automatically going to be an influence on you because no one makes music they don't like!
And yes EVERYTHING you listen to is from musical progression. The Beatles/Elvis started rock that came from soul and gospel. Metal is derived from rock thus evolution!

so ye its not ALL musical influences. but mostly it is.

You put HEAVIER strings on to downtune, not lighter ones. If you put lighter ones on and downtuned you end up with a floppy mess that doesn't stay in tune.

Not really, it just meant he had floppier strings it wouldn't really effect the tone much....the fact he used custom built effects pedals and used a Bass input instead of a guitar one had a lot more to do with it.
