FYI extreme Alternate guitar tunings screw up the neck tension. Because of this, it must be sent to the repair shop for maintenance..That is one reason why guitarists generally have more than one electric guitar.

Drop D is a lot less extreme on the guitar so its ok that he used it, and doesn't cause the same kind of problem.
