So funny, I read the novelization as a kid (I was obsessed and couldn't put it down until it was finished -- I even had my mother come in to read me a chapter as I took a bath one night before bed!) yet I never saw the movie itself! :P LOL So this is great that I can now finally see it. Assuming those who saw a romantic possibility view lesbian relationships only in terms of sex is ignorant and says more about you than anyone else. I loved this movie growing up because I saw myself as a lesbian reflected in it. There are no movies for LGBT kids, so sometimes our minds have to create or pick up subtext. Nothing's wrong with this; how I interpret a movie has nothing to do with how you do.

Ok, there is some lesbian subtext in this movie and this is coming from a lesbian and not some horny dude. They're friendship is boarding friendship and more, causing people to be unsure or think its oversexualized. To me it seems to be a powerful friendship that could develop into a relationship as they got older, like senior year or early college years. This typically happens, similar to a boy and girl friendship and becomes more. Love is love, and this is amazing.

I think I felt attracted to Anna Chlumsky when I first saw this movie in Feb 1996. It was a good sign because since puberty, two years before, I thought I had gone 100% Gay!

Anna Chlumsky first appearance on T.V. was the movie Uncle Buck, which was a very small role. Then of course came My Girl and so on! Yet I do know she did some modeling when she was like 6 or 9 months old. Hope this helps!!

Considering that it wasn't a huge box office hit, and that the VHS has been out of print for ages, I'd say it's very unlikely we'll ever see it on DVD. :(

I sooo agree with you on that!! I pretty much could say the lines from all the characters from beginning to end because I like it so much. Not sure if it's because of the storyline. Or how it has the two top leading actress from the 90's!! Love it, love it!!

Anna Chlumsky first appearance on T.V. was the movie Uncle Buck, which was a very small role. Then of course came My Girl and so on! Yet I do know she did some modeling when she was like 6 or 9 months old. Hope this helps!!

I'm sorry to tell you but they don't have this movie on DVD yet! I myself am waiting for it. I have the VHS and I love it. Yet if you want you could probably order the movie from your local book/DVD store. Best of luck hope you can find a copy for yourself to enjoy!

I enjoyed this movie as a kid because Pippi Longstocking was my hero and Jodi is so much like her (minus the superhuman strength)
It's a shame Universal still hasn't released this movie on DVD. Makes me wonder what else Universal hasn't bothered to release on DVD.

Pippi was definitely my childhood hero, too! Even dressed up as her for Halloween once - the sticking-out pigtails were harder than they looked!
And I agree, it's a shame that so many companies aren't releasing their older stuff on DVD. I mean, I'd be happy even with a bare-bones release!
