@xlsublx I agree, but I suppose it may be fun for some to use both the bar and the pedal....and out of the 90,000 people who try it, only 6 will get it right. lol
@smashcityplastic I got one of these new for £80, that's about $128/165 New Zealand dollars. Trust me the harmony/detune effects make it so much more worth it (to a guitarist anyway, I use it for NOISE :D)
what would be the setting for drop d tuning and what would be the setting for the guitar part in the song" Georgy Porgy" by the group called TOTO. i was also told that Andy Summers used the harmonizer in the song called"Behind My Camel" by the Police. hope you can help.
nice pedal. had it for a couple of days and then decided to return it for the boss oc3. this pedal in my opinion is good for those who like to add" cosmetics" to their tone and sound to suit their particular style. its not a "must have" for a pedal board set up. overall, a very nice, versatile pedal made by Boss.
@InspiringWear Depends on what you mean by "droptune"... if you mean going from standard to a dropped tuning (only dropping one string, like drop-D), then no... if you're talking about lowering the tuning a few steps, then maybe, but it has limited settings, and the tone wouldn't be as good as if you just manually retuned your guitar.
that chourusly effect soun, comes from the pedal or the effects on the amp? I'm just looking for a pedal that does harmonizing, like the discontinued BOSS HR-2 Harmonist... any suggestions???
@shittyfuck ... I've read that the 2nd input is to send a dry signal into the pedal when you play with distortion. This way the tuning is made properly (as I read).
So I guess that you need a channel selector or something like that.
@shittyfuck Stereo outs, the 2nd input is for an expression pedal. For use with things like the dive bomb function that he shows in the video. That way you aren't using the standard boss switch for all the work.
@shittyfuck actually cromesurfer is completely false in saying that. One input is for an expression pedal, which is used for things such as the whammy divebomb and such. The two outputs are for stereo sound, ie one output for left and one for right speakers. however you are able to use just one output for mono.
@shittyfuck The "EXP" input is for an expression pedal, so if you were using the "flutter" setting or a similar setting, you could use an external pedal instead of the PS-5 itself (so you can turn it on and off easier)...
The 2 outputs are for stereo (or in case you wanted to output to separate amps)...
@shittyfuck thats wrong. It is not for two different guitars. There aren't two inputs. One is input and one is for an expression pedal to control this pedal. And for the two outputs its basically if you want to get creative with your pedalboard and have two different chains after this pedal. The super chorus has it too.
The second input is for if you have an expression pedal. You would have the guitar plugged into exp pedal and exp pedal plugged into exp jack. As for the second output, I'm not so sure.
these audio clips are from the boss website. the actual boss website! he didnt play these. not to mention the fact that when he clicks the pedal, it doesnt always match up with whats happening. i have this pedal and its part of my usual pedal board so i know a thing or two about how it works. your calling me ignorant was rude and unnecessary.
experimentation is where its at :) thats why we've got so much good material from Joe hes always pushing the boundaries to find what sounds good, and this pedal with the 12 string sounds sweet. Thanks Joe! a few more videos with these pedal would be great they are really instructional.
Hilarious that you pretend that your playing this when its actually a demo off the bossus(dot)com website. Even more funnier is you placing your foot on the pedal pretending like your doing the actual playing. Too funny.
hahahahaha yeh:P watch when he does the tremolo bar pedal thing, you can hear the effect but the guy on this doesnt actually move his foot until he relise that he has to. verrryyyy cheesy video
I found that when I tried to simulate a bass with it (pitch shifter selected / down one octave) it sounds terrible. Like it's out of tune with itself. Anyone else experience this?
THIS. The digitech wammy is a piece of cr*p, to be honest. PS. If you want the guitar to sing, get a tremolo arm or learn to make the sound yourself. Get this only if you want a so-called "dive bomb")
For the guitar to sing, you should without a doubt repair the tremolo arm. The PS-5pedal is ONLY for dive-bombs. TIP: It's very good training for your guitar playing to bend yourself (it affects all of the playing you do, not just the bending)
For anyone wondering, the PS-5 can go up or down. The OC-3 goes down only, but can play your original signal plus one and two octaves down simultaneously, and has optional built in distortion.
Cromesurfer, is it true that to use this pedal you must know a lot about guitar theory becuase i want to get this pedal but i don't know guitar theory????????
What I'm try to say is,that the effect give to the guitar a texture to your sound, but if you can play your instrument good but you don't know theory I don't think is not a limit for you to use this pedal or any other kind of pedal effect at all,but sometime and extra knowledge it won't hurt anybody.
I'm really fond of the Boss Harmonist pedal, which this sort of replaced. I haven't gotten used to the difference yet. I suppose this pedal does more, but I'm not sure if it does what the harmonist did as well as that older pedal.
I have played with the Pitch Shifter enough to have found what you call the Dive Bomber, LOL! That effect is really a lot of fun! I use it on a couple of pieces I posted here on YouTube. "Arizona" is probably the better one. Nice demo, thanks!
I got a question about running this pedal as stereo. If you run out of both outputs can you simply use an adapter to convert it back to one cable? would it still be stereo?
Also, I have 6 boss pedals, 3 of which can be run as stereo. I assume running the first as stereo wouldn't be messed up by running the second or third as stereo? or by running through a mono afterward?
O Yes,I didn't need two amp for this pedal what I done was I used two regular cables in output A and B,but at the end of them I have a spliter like a V shape two female-ends and one male-end.
I have a question about the pedal, can you make your guitar sound go up an octave in pitch? like say youre playin a note. can you make it (the note) go higher with the pedal without plaing a higher fret? If so, then tell me cuz i need a pitch shifter to play surfacing
yes, you can go as high as 2 octaves, and as low as 2 octaves
You can use one interval func. (i cant remember the name of) to do non-diatonic intervals such as 1,2,5,7,12 and 24 semitones higher or lower. and then the other option gives you diatonic intervals in a selected key. the intervals for that setting are, lower or higher, 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, 6ths, 1 oct and 2 oct.
i just got this for christmas and whenever i go into to overdrive on my amp it sounds like shit??? do i need a distorition pedal to make that sound good???
Try them at guitar center, they have all the boss pedals in a setup which you can try each of them on any combination with different stomp box you know,distortions,delays,Etc..
or go to boss web site and you can do the same kind of combination with 'em.Thanks.
No way, you want distortion first, put this thing in the loop after your distortion pedals, otherwise you might as well play both notes on your guitar. You need it to take your distorted signal and shift it from there.
no, you can put compressors and wah before distortion, but flange, phase, delay, reverb and any other modulation effect goes after distortion. The last thing you want is to "distort" your effect, what you want is to "effect" your distortion, because your distortion is your base tone.

I just bought one on ebay for $115 (total) and I can't wait to use it.
can this pedal give me the note I am playing on my bass an octave higher? if it cannot, which boss pedal does that effect? to bad the octaver can only go in the lower octaves^^
yeah, you are right, because didn't take me an hour or two to make the video,in just 10 minutes, but I could done it myself, the point was,for the people have an idea how it sound and how to use it on the difference presets.thanks for your comment.

yes, you can go as high as 2 octaves, and as low as 2 octaves
You can use one interval func. (i cant remember the name of) to do non-diatonic intervals such as 1,2,5,7,12 and 24 semitones higher or lower. and then the other option gives you diatonic intervals in a selected key. the intervals for that setting are, lower or higher, 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, 6ths, 1 oct and 2 oct.
danielatha4 2 years ago
what's the point of the oc-3 if you can use this to go down and up octaves?
ShimmySystem 2 years ago
Well, I guess that depends on how of the features you would actually use.
Myself, there is no way I'll pay the full price for it since I wouldn't even use half the features of this thing.
Besides, I wouldn't want to keep setting the pedal to another feature every time.
If you use all of it, the price might be worth it, still many of these pedals are quite overpriced though.
If it's worth getting at all as in quality and such... well, it's Boss.
It's good quality even if not perfect overall.
DamageIncM 2 years ago
It's the credit crunch, man, what do you expect? It's getting harder and harder to afford these things.
ToaJoe 2 years ago
They were already overpriced years ago though.
But that issue doesn't help the pricing today either.
The prices kinda just persist throughout the years, at least in musical equipment.
Which is annoying since this way we can't wait for this stuff to "become cheaper", like with anything else.
Then I still don't understand it, since most stuff does drop massively in price, even more so today.
DamageIncM 2 years ago

Were there any other pedals on at the time? It kinda sounded like it had some chorus effect added on, or is that just the sound it tends to make?

There's not any other pedal effect add to it,The sound and affect are from the pedal itself.
