But she was 14 or 15 in 2007. You had to be at least 14 to be in the 2007 worlds. I just thought it was kind of weird because china would of had a much better chance at the gold in stuttgart with her :)
The age limit should be raised to 18. It would be pretty impossible to age cheat with the tiniest girls that way. Age limits in gymnastics for women are vitally important. The youngest girls can't handle it emotionally and psychologically--the rigors of trying to put off puberty. If the age limit is raised to 18, everyone will have undergone puberty. He Kexin *is* 14 years old. It's not her fault; it's the coaches' fault, but let's be honest. She's competing illegally.
She looks young-but then so did Filatova, Zmeskal, Miller, etc. at 15-16. Davidova at 19looked more like 10. I'm just throwing that out there-in hopes that it sticks and they let this pixie compete at the Games! I just hate how the age rule eliminates gifted gymnasts who might 'peak' between Olympiads. There should be some kind of waiver imo for such athletes.
well there kinda is but only for worlds. if ur 15 the yr b4 the olympics(2007) u r allowed to compete as a senior that year for experience for the olympic games.(shawn johnson, ivana hong) i think the age limit should be left at 15 but only if u actually r 15 by the 1st day of competition.
I had forgotten about the exception. The problem I have with excluding 13 and 14 year olds goes back to a an extraordinarily gifted gymnast by the name of Nadia Comaneci. With such rules in place in 1975-1976 she would not have been European and more importanly Olympic AA Champion. With hindsight it is clear that Nadia's best competitive days were in the 1975-1977 cycle-yes she won medals at majors like Euros, Worlds, and the Olympics from 78-80 but her results were uneven in comparison.
it shouldn't even matter how old u are. you should be able to move up to another level depending on how good you are. i mean half the jrs. are doing the same skills as the seniors.
I agree-imagine if there were age limits to say someone like Mozart in the music world. It is just unfair-especially in a sport where growing bodies can ruin a gymnasts career. :(
yea it can if you've been training since u were 5. but i dont think that applies to all girls. some have only gotten better with age/retirements-comebacks. (sacramone, chusovitina, khorkina, severino, hatch, bhardwaj :)
Very true! I just think age limits prevents an athlete from competing against a true champion-that's what Worlds and Olympics is supposed to be about-the best against the best. If a 14 year old is better than an 18 year old on bars-why keep her out of the Olympics due to her age? I think the age limit has also caused some countries to cheat-without the age restriction there would not have been the Kim Gwan Suk/Romanian age scandals.
i agree, i think it should have been left alone @ 15. it was suppossed to be raised to stop the pixie age and kept gymnasts healthy, but they are only prolonging their careers trying to stay in competition longer and trying to compete against younger girls who happened to have been born in the right year.
I'm pretty neutral about age limits.....But this commentator in an interview said she was 14. I doubt it was a mistake, but I really wante He to compete in the Olympics..... =(
I do too! Very much so-and I'm sure she will barring injury knock wood. And I hope hope hope she does not stumble like so many of my previous favorites (Kui Yuan Yuan, Mo Huilan, Yang Bo, Romania's only artistic gymnast in 96 Marinescu, etc.)or not even make it to the Games-gymnasts like Priakhina, Groshkova, Omelianchik, Atler, Munteanu, etc. saddened my heart when they did not make it..
OMG I totally agree with you! Especially about the infamous "Chinese choke". So many gymnasts crumbled under pressure when they had so much potential.... =(
I can't help but wonder if perhaps too much emphasis is put on winning the Games by their coaches?? Or perhaps it's political who knows? I know China is much more open now than it used to be-I just hope all the girls (and boys too!) from China just go and have fun-try their best-and let the medals fall where they may. I hope the same for ALL the great gymnasts of the world who will be there. :)
True. One can be quite dazzled by the flight elements-and not notice the fact that she did not quite hit the handstand a few times. But a spectacular looking routine over all. :)
Her second jaeger was so much higher there than it is now, I wish she could somehow get it that good again.
