Has anyone else seen the correlation between this film and the Ripper case? Jack the Ripper mutilated his victims, like Nigel does to Susan. Nigel calls Alex "Jack." Nigel & Alex are descended from the Knights Templar, and it was rumored that the Ripper may have been a Freemason (Freemasonry is supposedly connected to the Knights). M. John Druitt, a Ripper suspect, was fired from a teaching job for supposedly having relations with the male students. Nigel is a bit TOO close to Alex.

Nigel is asexual, but he is attracted to Alex. Asexuality just means that he has no interest in any sort of sexual relationship.

Him being attracted to Alex is the only explination as to why he would kill the girl. He wants Alex, his "Jack", all to himself.

I thought the girl was supposed to fulfill some sort of destiny Nigel believed he held with Alex. Alex sleeping with the dead body and later obtaining the skull would grant them both some sort of 'power'. I like to believe there is definite homoerotic tension within the film too, but the girl wasn't killed out of lover's jealousy, Nigel thought there was a purpose to her 'sacrifice'.

@QuickenedSand Although I think Nigel just wants Alex as some sort of trophy of his psychological conquest of him. Or as his puppet. Someone he can be so incredibly close to that he can pull that person's strings and get the person to do whatever he wants. Alex is like Nigel's possession, and this possession gives Nigel the feeling of having constant, perpetual control over something. Typical psychopathic behavior, as far as I know.

Haha actually the director said in the commentary that he was trying to make it out like they had some kind of sexual tension before gestalt partners almost always had sexual tension amongst each other. He said that alex is straight and nigel is asexual though.

I think he saw it as asexual as in the last thing on his mind is sex or he doesn't have the ability to truly comprehend human attraction. You should rent the dvd and put on the director's commentary. that is when he says Nigel is asexual/
