  • Holla! Have you considered intellectus 424 diet (do a search on google)? Ive heard some unbelivable things about it and my mate lost lots of weight with it.

  • Slack key is a guitar style that originated in Hawaii. They use open tunings.

  • When I was little, Mr Atkins was my Daddy's favorite picker. He saw him once in a restaraunt in TN, and about flipped!

  • Check out JP Cormier's Version,Not Bad at all.

  • Thank you for putting all these great songs played by the best guitarist on the planet.

  • Chet pretty much is IT on guitar. He was not a country guitarist, he was a guitarist.

He made an "instruction" DVD I recently watched. What a joke; he shows you how he does it, very slowly and carefully, but it doesn't mean you can do it. Very humbling...

  • So many informed pundits, yet no-one has bothered to point out that the misspelled title will most certainly result in lower views...daffydoug PLEASE edit the title.. It's HAWAIIAN..

  • I wish there was more of Chet playing slack key and with a whole hawaiian band or atleast a singer like Gabby Pahinui, it would have been too epic and the world would have exploded.

  • he has to be playing in open G. you can hear the open D being played on the high "E" string. you can hear it at 0:57

  • @willjb90 - Bingo. DGDGBD, which is known as Taro Patch amongst the Hawaiian slack key players.

  • my uncle did the slack tunings. he was popular in the thirties and fortys. his name sol hoopii.I never met the man cause I was to young when he died. but you find more about him on the web

  • @MrJesse3620

My dad taught me about Sol Hoopii. Dad started playing Hawaiian guitar back in the 40's which was quite rare in the UK back then but he taught me to play too as a young kid in the sixties but I haven't played it for years. Sol was dad's hero and I grew up loving his music too. Thanks for the memories!

  • This is awesome and yes, it is slack key whether or not the high E string is tuned to D or E.. THe alternating bass is largely essential in the style. Chet does add his own flair but does it so well.

  • Beautiful!

  • And let me add that Hawaiian slack key is not a slide or lap style, it is the predecessor of steel guitar.

Slack key is a Hawaiian guitar style that uses alternate tunings (about 50 have been documented) and fingerpicking to play the most beautiful music in the world.

  • a hawaiian slack key is a tuning used mostly for hawaiian lap style playing on a guitar with raised strings. i forget what you tune to.. but i know its pretty weird the first time you give it a shot :P

  • Its tuned in 'Open G'.

  • If thats the case, its not a hawaiian slack key tuning.

  • Jack Baker, who is an expert on Chet's arrangements has a list of Chet's alternate tunings from all his albums and I'm reading it as i type. He documents that Chet used DGDGBE.

Whether he is correct or not, let me tell you this. I have been working solid on this arrangement for a good 16 hours or more, and using that tuning i've just about got the tune down pat, so I'm pretty convinced Jack is right.

  • thats not open G though. if that E was tuned to a D, that would be open G. THAT is a slack key tuning, where as DGDGBD wouldnt be.

i never said DGDGBE was wrong. i said Open G was wrong, as its not a slack key tuning.

  • He ain't Hawaiian, but he sure do good as 1

  • mahalo unckle chet, from kawika spencer.

  • another top performance by the master.

  • Chet is gone but his music lives on: one of his many great renditions

  • I'm blown away! I'd heard of this guy, but never heard him play, though I do know the Rough Guide Hawaiian cd. If listening to this doesn't make you smile & tap your foot, you're beyond hope!

  • Chet was indeed a one man band. He could get more sound out of a single acoustic guitar than any man I've ever heard.

Also listen to his version of "Flop Eared Mule and other Favorites" on my channel, from the same album (Chet Atkins Alone)

  • Chet wasn't just a one man band...he was THE man....;o)

  • Le meilleur guitariste fingerstyle de tous les temps

  • Will do!

  • Hawaiian slack key guitar is a style of Hawaiian music based on retuning the guitar. This piece is Chet's interpretation of a famous slack key instrumental called "Opihi Moemoe" composed and recorded by Leonard Kwan, one of the most innovative slack key players. Sounds great, too!

Please stop by my YouTube page if you'd like to hear a little more slack key.

  • and the other essential is the alternating bass line.
