  • This documentary is in such bad taste it actually made me laugh a bit. It would be in very poor taste to go into such morbid speculations as depicted here in the awful dramatic reconstructions/impressions and to have such atrociously "spooky" music in a documentary about Edwards' disappearance now in 2012, let alone when this was made, which was very close to the actual time of the event.

  • Boy George is not that stupid, his music is.

He says some deep shit around 2:40.

  • 4:16

    Prozac.

Spree killers, suicides etc often have that drug in common.

Avoid it, if you value your mind.

  • So he was a spoiled over-indulged kid. Fuckin' WAH!

  • Boy George does make some good points, Lord knows if anyone knows about going off your rocker it's him. But Shaun Ryder... fuck him.

  • I fucking hate Shaun Ryder. I hate his music, NOTHING he said had anything to do with richey. Boy George is a twat but at least he made a few good points, What a prick!

  • This is PANTS!!

  • clearly no idea about the manics... 1:03 calls him a talented musician...talented lyricist yes..but musician?! hahaha, he was never plugged in. much love Rich <3

  • This documentary is so bad.

  • Wow, Boy George does not have a clue and evidently he didn't know Richie very well. Especially with the "cut your ear off" comment. Richie was a very ill man who was in the pits of despair about life and his place in it. George's comments I think are reprehensible because he's jumping straight to the cliches as if Richie wanted to die in a blaze of glory or something that was purely for notoriety.

  • what right has fat fag boy george got to do with the manics!?!?!

  • I too think this documentary is bollocks, but what I don't get is that they actually got Deborah Curtis to appear and talk about Ian Curtis on here, but she refused to talk about him and appear in a documentary of Joy Division with the remaining members.

  • @iamjoshandyouaredaft yeh ... odd :S

  • @iamjoshandyouaredaft

that's very interesting... maybe she didn't like them moving on with another band? i've heard that speculation about JD fans back in the day, although i don't know how true it is. This is actually the 1st time i've even seen what the woman looks like. Either way, i LOVE New Order & Joy Division.

  • fuck off boy george!!! you dont even know him.

  • What the fuck.

I clicked on this expecting to see a light documentary about Richey James, instead i got a fucking programme that would be more at home on a sci-fi channel.

  • what the fuck is this about the note to a mystery girl ?

    the fuck ?!

  • @stargazingkittens richey left a note saying "i love you jo" nobody knows who this girl was

  • @sophialovesnow1987 She is/was a girl from London who Richey met backstage at a Manics gig and it's said that she's the only girl who he ever slept with, but they were never actually a couple and most of the time they'd just talk.

  • what the fuck is this about the note to a mystery girl ?

I have actually never heard that .

  • this documentary is so pretentious, whtat the actual fuck

  • this is just my thoughts but I think Richey lyrics were designed to take the sweetness of the bitter aspirin of life

  • this entire documentary is a fucking sham, a total sell out in the name of a genuine genius

  • why the fuck is the prick boy george on this?

  • He had the god particle. He was one of us.

  • according to his sister he never threw any lyrics into the river.

  • I know it's horrible that Richey went missing but this is so very bleak and serious it's almost funny. Ffs, I hope his family haven't seen this tripe.

  • @TorysApollo I think he knew him through mutual friends, but never actually met him...

  • Ugh Boy George? Shut the fuck up. What the hell do you know? What they should have done was get people who actually knew Richey, like Nicki for example, to talk about him. Instead of these people who have never even talked to him.

  • Yeesh, this is heavy. I heard of this from old manics interviews after richey left, you'll notice they refused to take part in it.

THAT'S what Simon price looks like?? Marlon Brando in apocalypse now meets.. well, boy George.

    Yeesh.

  • Could really do without the sinister industrial factory noises in the background

  • lol @ the scary background music and the one clip of richey repeating "bye bye bye bye bye" ridiculous

  • boy george might be a demented fagot, but he makes some well though statement about fame here

  • "he made me pick up books I would normally never read" yeah, I thought by the look of you that you were a super hard man who hates every form of litriture

  • This documentary is bull, steve lamacq is the only one who makes a bit of sense lol.

  • He's alive in Goa. Trust me...

  • Good thing I watched this JUST to see what Deborah Curtis actually looks like. Would you believe that nobody has any photographs of her or footage besides the rare interview here or there? Thankgod Ian's daughter did a magazine interview some years back, but at least it was more recent.

  • Anyone thinking of watching this till the end don't it's awful.

  • Oh Richey you really did deserve more than this :(

  • "Too intelligent for this world"?!

    Stereotypical pretentious Manics fan.

What was he then? A depressed, attention-seeking Moriarty?

The Manaics used to be great, now they make music my mother listens to.

I'm sure if he was still alive, he'd have gone and slapped the others about for selling out.

  • simon price is a clever bloke. dodgy eye shadow though.

  • debbie curtis has beautiful sad eyes

interesting to see her given ive just watched Control

  • great interview with syd barrett. didnt know he liked the manics!!

  • Can someone tell me what Simon Price is saying? Because I'm Spanish and I understand the rest of the video but I can hardly understand Simon.

  • The presense of Simon Price here is like a diamond in a sea of bullshit.

  • A god awful documentary. up there with 'kurt & courtney' for shit rock documentaries.

  • @eraserhead321 no kidding....pretentious and over the top....video sensationalism. and that spooky music....like it's some paranormal tale or something. I love the manics...but this is just goofy.

  • been looking for this for ages, I saw it as a child. Thankyou

  • Boy George = idiot. Somehow past me by this documentory, I wish it had carried on passing me by. x

  • Did Ryder think he was contributing to a different docu?

The Mondays were the antithesis of the Manics. Both good, but for totally different reasons.

  • The mondays were dumb, they ahd fun but it meant nothing.

the manics are great and their song and lyrics mean something.

  • He lives in Goa. He's about all the time.

  • Didn't he end up joining The Darkness?

  • Lol

  • Richey was too smart for suicide.

  • 'Too smart for suicide.' What the hell does that mean? Many intelligent people have committed suicide.

  • @byan85 yeah but those who commit suicide deaths can satirized, such as stephen hawking: brainier than kurt cobains garage wall. it realy dulls the impact if you ask me

  • Many of the most intelligent people that I know personally are also the most maladjusted, depressed and cynical.

  • You mean they have aspergers.

  • Doubt that. It's Nature vs. Nurture a lot of the time. Meaning family issues etc.

  • The fact he makes very little eye contact had few friends obsessed with politics and would rather read a book than talk to another person.

Read his lyrics as well take yes for example.

    I 'T' them, 24:7, all year long

Purgatory's circle, drowning here, someone will always say yes

Funny place for the social, for the insects to start caring

Just an ambulance at the bottom of a cliff.

Pretty obvious example there he had some problems understanding social thinking.

  • like the opening to Allen Ginsberg's Howl: "I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness..." Its true for every generation I would think

  • @thirdsock

You forgot bitter, lonely, hedinistic, and misogynistic... etc.

  • Fuck Shaun Ryder & Boy George! What the hell do they know about Richey, or the Manics for that matter?

  • nothing, but they were offered money.

  • I agree with you, if there is a hell, Boy George must go there...:)

  • @acupoftea123 No doubt

  • what a shitty masquerade. All these these tv personalities with jail plates in hands... doesn't add nothing to the picture.

  • apparently richey never thought about suicide? yeah he may have been depressed or whatever, but he wouldnt have done that. if cctv footage existed of where richey was parked before the incident then we'd know more, but it was probably too early for cctv to even have existed.

  • i have recently read the book 'a version of reason' about this. There was cctv footage from the brigde,it was very dodgey but no one jumped...

the car was parked outside a motel(i think) there, which is still there but has changed its name...

  • yeah? tbh i didnt really think they were in the states at all, but i guess they do have a very american sound. lol, i thought they were a bit like The Jam, in the sense that no one out of britan actually thinks they're any good! lol :)

  • being from a small town in wales myself!! :)

  • well, thats valid, yes. but i just dont think hes THAT inteligent. YES, he must have some kind of intelect to understand those things he writes about, but most of those things have been written about before, in books. The ones that Richey talks about so much. Sylvia Plath for example. He was very talented, i just wondered how most people would feel about him when they read the works he was inspired by, the might not regard him so highly, just a thought. Remeber i DO like the manics!! :)

  • richey isn't dead... fuck logic, he just isn't.

    when was this documentary made?

  • i guess you could argue that, but my emphasis was ment to be on richey not being "too inteligent for this world".

  • honestly, i like the manics and all, and i think that Richeys song writting was good, possibly the best. But it was no work of literary excellence! i mean, the idea of Richey being too cleaver for this world is laughable, surely!! hes a good songwriter YES.... but hes no genius. 4st7lb is a great song, lyrically it might be the best song ever, 'cos its so real and true. but the man was no einstien or da vinci!!! he did very little for the world, really. he wrote good songs. and thats IT!!!

  • This doc is absolutely pathetic. Why is Shaun Ryder in it talking crap about cars and shoes?

It's a joke, utter joke and isn't even funny accidentally. Manics forever!!

  • Boy George can go fuck himself!

  • oh god fuck it. boy george and shaun ryder in one film. no thanks. *vomits*

  • guys, may someone make subtitles for this? or a simple translation word by word as a text file. it shouldn't be difficult for anyone of you since you're native English speakers. i'll be very grateful and do something in return as much as i can

  • Lol This actually pisses me off a bit, its so cheesy: the swooping camera shot over the bridge as if trying to represent a suicide jump, the echoed 'bye bye...', the analysing speeches. fuck, it's not a psychology show...It's a documentry. So pretentious.

  • yey its back ^^ been looking for this for ages....it's quite surreal isn't it? such a weird documentry...

  • Boy George is fucking clueless everything he said about the manics was wrong

  • This documentary is so bad, haha, it's laughable. Boy George? What is he on about? There are small segments of this that are OK but overall it's poor. Thanks for the upload, Manics rule!!!!

  • This documentary is, of course, utter shite. Truely, truely dreadful. Having said this, it is really interesting to see it again after all these years and thanks to vaughanography for the post. Much appreciated. MSP WILL ALWAYS MATTER.

  • You have no idea how much Boy George annoys me in this.

  • The Vanishing Of Richey Manic,

    back on Youtube,

    it's about time.

    Many thanks!
