This documentary is in such bad taste it actually made me laugh a bit. It would be in very poor taste to go into such morbid speculations as depicted here in the awful dramatic reconstructions/impressions and to have such atrociously "spooky" music in a documentary about Edwards' disappearance now in 2012, let alone when this was made, which was very close to the actual time of the event.
I fucking hate Shaun Ryder. I hate his music, NOTHING he said had anything to do with richey. Boy George is a twat but at least he made a few good points, What a prick!
clearly no idea about the manics... 1:03 calls him a talented musician...talented lyricist yes..but musician?! hahaha, he was never plugged in. much love Rich <3
Wow, Boy George does not have a clue and evidently he didn't know Richie very well. Especially with the "cut your ear off" comment. Richie was a very ill man who was in the pits of despair about life and his place in it. George's comments I think are reprehensible because he's jumping straight to the cliches as if Richie wanted to die in a blaze of glory or something that was purely for notoriety.
I too think this documentary is bollocks, but what I don't get is that they actually got Deborah Curtis to appear and talk about Ian Curtis on here, but she refused to talk about him and appear in a documentary of Joy Division with the remaining members.
that's very interesting... maybe she didn't like them moving on with another band? i've heard that speculation about JD fans back in the day, although i don't know how true it is. This is actually the 1st time i've even seen what the woman looks like. Either way, i LOVE New Order & Joy Division.
I clicked on this expecting to see a light documentary about Richey James, instead i got a fucking programme that would be more at home on a sci-fi channel.
@sophialovesnow1987 She is/was a girl from London who Richey met backstage at a Manics gig and it's said that she's the only girl who he ever slept with, but they were never actually a couple and most of the time they'd just talk.
I know it's horrible that Richey went missing but this is so very bleak and serious it's almost funny. Ffs, I hope his family haven't seen this tripe.
Ugh Boy George? Shut the fuck up. What the hell do you know? What they should have done was get people who actually knew Richey, like Nicki for example, to talk about him. Instead of these people who have never even talked to him.
"he made me pick up books I would normally never read" yeah, I thought by the look of you that you were a super hard man who hates every form of litriture
Good thing I watched this JUST to see what Deborah Curtis actually looks like. Would you believe that nobody has any photographs of her or footage besides the rare interview here or there? Thankgod Ian's daughter did a magazine interview some years back, but at least it was more recent.
@eraserhead321 no kidding....pretentious and over the top....video sensationalism. and that spooky music....like it's some paranormal tale or something. I love the manics...but this is just goofy.
@byan85 yeah but those who commit suicide deaths can satirized, such as stephen hawking: brainier than kurt cobains garage wall. it realy dulls the impact if you ask me
like the opening to Allen Ginsberg's Howl: "I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness..." Its true for every generation I would think
apparently richey never thought about suicide? yeah he may have been depressed or whatever, but he wouldnt have done that. if cctv footage existed of where richey was parked before the incident then we'd know more, but it was probably too early for cctv to even have existed.
yeah? tbh i didnt really think they were in the states at all, but i guess they do have a very american sound. lol, i thought they were a bit like The Jam, in the sense that no one out of britan actually thinks they're any good! lol :)
well, thats valid, yes. but i just dont think hes THAT inteligent. YES, he must have some kind of intelect to understand those things he writes about, but most of those things have been written about before, in books. The ones that Richey talks about so much. Sylvia Plath for example. He was very talented, i just wondered how most people would feel about him when they read the works he was inspired by, the might not regard him so highly, just a thought. Remeber i DO like the manics!! :)
honestly, i like the manics and all, and i think that Richeys song writting was good, possibly the best. But it was no work of literary excellence! i mean, the idea of Richey being too cleaver for this world is laughable, surely!! hes a good songwriter YES.... but hes no genius. 4st7lb is a great song, lyrically it might be the best song ever, 'cos its so real and true. but the man was no einstien or da vinci!!! he did very little for the world, really. he wrote good songs. and thats IT!!!
guys, may someone make subtitles for this? or a simple translation word by word as a text file. it shouldn't be difficult for anyone of you since you're native English speakers. i'll be very grateful and do something in return as much as i can
Lol This actually pisses me off a bit, its so cheesy: the swooping camera shot over the bridge as if trying to represent a suicide jump, the echoed 'bye bye...', the analysing speeches. fuck, it's not a psychology show...It's a documentry. So pretentious.
This documentary is so bad, haha, it's laughable. Boy George? What is he on about? There are small segments of this that are OK but overall it's poor. Thanks for the upload, Manics rule!!!!
This documentary is, of course, utter shite. Truely, truely dreadful. Having said this, it is really interesting to see it again after all these years and thanks to vaughanography for the post. Much appreciated. MSP WILL ALWAYS MATTER.

Stereotypical pretentious Manics fan.
What was he then? A depressed, attention-seeking Moriarty?

The fact he makes very little eye contact had few friends obsessed with politics and would rather read a book than talk to another person.
Read his lyrics as well take yes for example.

Purgatory's circle, drowning here, someone will always say yes
Funny place for the social, for the insects to start caring
Just an ambulance at the bottom of a cliff.
Pretty obvious example there he had some problems understanding social thinking.
