  • Proof positive that Rick Buckler & Bruce Foxton were THE BEST rhythm section of any band, anywhere in the world at the time.

  • can t find the demo of this ,,which is even better

  • The perfect drummer...nobody like him

  • I had a Crombie and a Ricky copy. Couldn't afford a fucking forest and a fire though.

  • Great effort on the drums

  • Its a little known fact that the Star wars film franchise,or more correctly,"Return of the jedi" , filmed the Ewok scene's,on the moon of Endor in the same forest.Production on the film started 3 weeks after the Jam finished this promo. The Location was the result of a chance meeting and subsequent 30 year friendship between Bruce Foxton and George Lucas who met at the BBC Shepherds bush, one was on top of the pops, one was sourcing forest based props and lighting. The rest as the say,is history...

  • Their greatest moment!

  • ATTENTION!!

    preserve your jam CDs/records

music will never be the same agian

  • cracking band shame Weller has disappeared up his own arse he takes himself too seriously nowadays thinks he's a bloody God.

  • @ecc84 To be fair he made up with Bruce Foxton and got him to play on his solo album after his dad and Bruce's wife died...

  • @ecc84 May I have an example of how Weller thinks he's a "bloody God"?

  • @ecc84

  • The drummer pisses on Ringo Starr, Starr did one good drummin (Strawberry Fields) other than that he was carried by Lennon & McCartney.

These are real musicians with a REAL drummer.

  • I think we saw them play this at a small CND gig. Shame Paul can't patch things up with Rick. What other 3 piece sounds like this nowadays? When they split something very special went from Britsh pop music

  • aged 13 when this come out and the dance floor of the local youth club went fucking mental with all us little mods when dj put this on.oh they was the days

  • Whenever I see something about the BNP or those right wing yank nutters, I think of this song....

  • @stylophobia Agreed. Toss them onto the bonfire of obscurity where they belong! Let the flames go higher!

  • A fantastic track from one of the best bands of all time!

  • i cant forgive weller for kicking the jam into touch when at their peak, only to form the poxy fucking style coucil!!

  • @col2269wf couldnt have put it better than that, talk about a step backwards!

  • @col2269wf You're wrong. It's called progression.

  • This was a double A-side to Town Called Malice, wasn't it? Fantastic!!

  • @ellycat Afraid not....that was 'Presious'. This was an A side with Disguises on the B side.....I think.

  • @ellycat No.

  • @Studio156videos Don't worry, somebody has already informed me of my mistake..

  • This song proves that the Jam had the absolute best rhythm section. Rick and Bruce are just on top form here.

  • fire images are so relevant- this is pure class- great bass drums- and dont forget the stunning lyrical element" the weak get crushed as the strong grow stronger" and the lines" i feel so old and i feel so young and i just cant grow up to meet the demands"

  • this tune has the best drumming ever on it

  • Buckler !!!!

  • great drumming from Rick Buckler, anyone else thinks he looks like Alan Sheaer? :D

  • Rick Buckler played as a forward for Newcastle and England!

  • Turmoil turns rejoiceful!!

  • Greatest Jam song but what a lousy promo.

  • great song nuff said

  • seminal - one of the great drum solos ever

  • incredible drumming

  • Buying a Jam single, was the nearest thing to buying a loaded gun !!!

  • brilliant comment

  • @Vasiliki666 hang on how does that work? o_O

  • A Rick Buckler tune - and was a template for a number of songs Weller has written in recent albums.

  • This song is more proof that the Jam had one of the best rhythm sections in music E-V-E-R.

  • I find that hard to beleive andrewanthony

  • one of the jams finest moments(and they had quite a few)...

  • reminds of my 1st ever rangers game

  • na na na as I was standing by the edge I could see the faces of those who led pissing their selves laughing.

Still sounds as good now as it did back then.

  • This is The Jam's most serious song. The bass and drums make the song. The drums at the end put a fine point on it.

  • Believe it or not, this was the first Jam song I ever heard. As a young lad in Germany in 1981, hooked on Ultravox, Numan, Visage and The Human League, on Roxy Music and Bowie, it came as a surprise to me that I liked this song - no synths, no anthemic chorus ... I felt a little schizo that I loved both Funeral Pyre by The Jam and Girls On Film by Duran Duran ...

What was I going to say? Uh, great song, this. Great band.

  • Good video.

  • great song, reminds me of Hawkwind's 'levitation' for some bizarre reason !

  • this great track is on the series 2 soundtrack of Ashes to ashes

  • Esta genial el ritmo que manejan¡¡¡¡

  • I know that this was re-recorded for "Snap!". But to me this is THE definitive version of Funeral Pyre. It has a raw agressive edge that the other version lacks

  • Even today, the Bass of Foxton and drums of Buckler are overshadowed by peoples total,in my view misplaced, adoration of weller. This particular single took YEARS to grow on me but i love it now-mostly for aforesaid drums/bass.

  • Turmoil turns rejoiceful !!!

  • This is my favourite song by The Jam. It's a masterpiece! And Rick's drumming is superb. Toodle-pip. Nads :)

  • stand at the edge..keep out of our way,we've got work to do..

    pass that torch kamerad..

    Hello everyone,we're back!

    88

  • Bommy Night '81!!!!

    =D

  • "as i was standing by the edge, i could see the faces of those who led pissing themselves laughing"

in my humble opinion, one of the greatest lyrics ever.

  • "their mad eyes buldged, their flushed faces said -

'The weak get crushed as the strong grow stronger'"

  • DEDUCATED TO ALL VIVISECTORS!!!!

  • I wonder why From The Jam never performs this song live, they arent that old.

  • In 1981 i read that they recorded MANY different versions of this track. They could never agree which was the best, eventually compromising on this mix.Maybe those disagreements kept them from doing it live?.

  • they played it live on many occasions.

  • Definately Rick's best drumming output for the Jam.

  • bruce is so cool

  • woking turns wicker man for the better

  • weller was really forging ahead here-how do you define this?dark progressive-punk?wonderfuel in any case.

  • Wasent just weller, foxton and buckler Came up with music while Paul did the lyrics.

  • Tops and fingers behind the youth club with Alison, the memories come back.....

  • The first record I bought that had a naughty word in it... Yer gotta larf!

  • Superb...

Do you think that the Arctic Monkeys' rhythm section might have heard this song at some point ?

  • Well, I'm always reminded of this tune somehow whenever I hear 'Brianstorm'.

  • "As I was standing by the edge, I could see the faces of those who led pissing themselves laughing". As true now as it was then. Death to Tyrants.

  • Word.
