I don't have a problem with other people being religious, and making the effort you say to get a good after life and please God, I understand that. But I can't personally spend time praying or trying to please something I have so much doubt about. For me, life is about making THIS LIFE a good one.

Adultery isn't so black and white for atheists, we still acknowledge it as wrong and a bad thing to do, especially if there are children involved etc. I don't believe in God but I'd still get married and vow before God (most likely not in a church), because it's a tradition and binds us in the same way it binds religious people. Although it leaves the door open for a divorce, but marriage is only something to do if you're in love and you don't leave or cheat on someone you love.

Or read sura 9. The complete sura is a pure hate speech.

the whole of suratul bayyinah is directed at the jews and christians of Quraysh. they agreed a prophet (saws) was going to come and the jews agreed Mohammed (saws) had all the characteristics of the prophet who was prophecised to come. however they rejected him soley for the reason he was not one of the children of israel.

If you had said "these suras were in a special context, are not valid today any more, and that's why we ripped them out of the quran" i would have agreed with you. But thats not the case. and btw. these verses do NOT clarify, that the just refer to certain groups of people. They say "THE disbelievers are..." and not "these or those disbelievers are...".

A designers intention though can be gleaned from the design. Why would a perfect designer create something that is distasteful to itself and then punish it?
Why would a perfect design need an instruction manual (Al-Quran) to tell it how to function? Would it not make more sense for the perfect creator creating the environment to develop the design (us) as apposed to having sent down one guy with a book?

In that case, why the heck should hell last forever? It seems that once a prisoner of hell repents of his sins and becomes humble he should be allowed to leave hell. If such a thing happens and God keeps such a person in hell, then God isn't God unjust? What do you say to that?
People should not do things out of fear for punishment or hope for reward, but out of love for one's Creator & one's fellow human beings. Being a loving person is a reward in itself, being selfish/self-centered is punishment.

Adultery isn't so black and white for atheists, we still acknowledge it as wrong and a bad thing to do, especially if there are children involved etc. I don't believe in God but I'd still get married and vow before God (most likely not in a church), because it's a tradition and binds us in the same way it binds religious people. Although it leaves the door open for a divorce, but marriage is only something to do if you're in love and you don't leave or cheat on someone you love.

Nothing can stop them. Unfortunately murders and diabolical crimes happen all the time; it's just the way of the world. But, without God, the good people are the ones that have succedded, hence why so many of us live in beautiful areas and cities, and now, also depend on human inventions to live.
There's always been "bad" people, people that do not care for others, it's the same in many animal species - violence etc. Just evolutionary suvival traits (which is humans don't need anymore).

The point is, God or no god, reality is such that we create our own 'Heavens or Hells' from our own actions, and if all the 'evil, bad, lazy, incompetant people were put in one place, that environment itself would turn into a hell zone, where they end up killing each other to selfishly consume its resources..wheras in a good environment the 'good souls' would share, and go out of thier way to help each other be happy creating a 'Heaven'... so athiest or not, you can't run from God or his system.

Traits of bad people: evil, selfish, lazy.
In the palestinian childrens case, yes they are living in hell and its not thier fault, and yes this is exception to the above rule, but the Quran says all children are innocent and go to paradise.

i personally have not found anywhere in the Quran that states a muslim must hate non-believers, if you have i'd appreciate you showing me. i like to quote the medinian surat from the latter so called "intolerant" days of Mohammed's (saws) life Mumtahinah, verse 8.
GOD does not enjoin you from befriending those who do not fight you because of religion, and do not evict you from your homes. You may befriend them and be equitable towards them. GOD loves the equitable.

Of course, some of these quotes refer to specific groups of unbelievers, but the main theme is:

Well, just take the short sura 98. A short and very clear message, that the "disbelievers" are the "worst beings".
Or read sura 9. The complete sura is a pure hate speech.
Of course, you can try to justify some statements as referring to certain situations, but the general message is clear: Disbelievers are bad, allah hates them and tortures them in hell. They must be humilitated, and so on.
No good person should follow such teachings.

If you had said "these suras were in a special context, are not valid today any more, and that's why we ripped them out of the quran" i would have agreed with you. But thats not the case. people are divided by all sorts of things in life, tribes, countries, familes and religion is no different. when the verse says disbelievers are the worst, it means spiritually and in closeness to God. this is not a carte blanche for muslims to hate non-muslims and their is not a single verse of the Quran that instructs muslims to do so. i may believe your going to go to hell if you don't change. however that does not mean we can't be friends, it is purely a spiritual matter. its your choice.

Well, ok - of course its no problem in "dvividing" people by any criteria. However, it becomes a problem, when this division means, that one part is worth more and better, than the others. Like "white men are better, than black ones". And that is, what the quran does concerning muslims and disbelievers.

To what extent is a life without divine love worth living? The love of God is built in the fabric of life. 1CO 13:4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
We harm ourselves & others if we don't live according to these principles. We need God to protect us against ourselves.

The purpose of life is to serve God and one's fellow human beings in love & humility. We've seen via brainscans that a lot of murders and other criminals have abnormal brain activity that may cause such disruption in the naturally developed for survival's sake morallity. Emotions such as love are once again, natural biological feelings (scientifically proven) involving no spiritual "alternative". The act of worship isn't limited to your narrow definition of praising and glorifying. It encompasses all acts of good. Examples, charity is an act of worship, as is an honest job well done. So, to worship is to be Good, to live according to God's laws (which, by the way, are all for the benefit of humanity.)
Worshiping God is a clear and consistent moral compass in life. The poor atheist, on the other hand, is left to his subjective whims and desires to decide on wrong and right.

That is not entirely correct. Some Muslims believe charity should go only to Muslims everything else is haram. Some think Muslims should be preferred, while others believe that it doesn't matter what faith the destitutes are. When I was a Muslim I was of the last category. Afaik, there's no rule in Islam that says non-Muslims cannot receive charity, however, the Qur'an is so negative toward unbelievers that certain views are not surprising.

I can see many misconceptions in your statements. Charity is universal in Islam. If it is purely for the sake of Allah, then that's better.
Purity of intention is key in Islam. And it makes sense, for there are cases where charity could be for selfish reasons (showing off, scoring points, to feel good...etc) That's what separates the believer from the atheist.

There is not one charity that exists, for the needs of none Muslims. Non Muslims have to pay the Jizya tax. If anything they are more impoverished, until they of course submit to Allah.

An atheist can very well be charitable just for the sake of it, and not because of some invisible idol in your head who will reward you for it.
