  • Evan is still as beautiful as ever!

  • Varshon's got some great tunes on it. I especially love his take on Wire's Fragile and Leonard Cohen's Hey That's No Way to Say Goodbye.

  • This is a rad song! Evan's beard is pretty cool :)

  • Demoral

  • Personally I didnt like the album version I have listened to Lemonheads since shame about ray. Personally I dont think there is a better voice in rock.

  • I love Evan Rando.

  • I like the guy, but FUCK. OFF!

  • i live in evens moms (susan) condo in Providence RI. she's great!

  • demiced?

  • @w00dthrush i think he meant the band's demise

  • THIS IS A GREAT COVER. Nuff said.....

  • can't beat this shit

  • nice name...... ;)

  • What are you fuckers on about? This is the tits! Not as gracefully picked as the original but I love the pace of it and Dando's voice is silky! Like someone else said he has a knack for doing good covers that suit his style.

  • didn't like the tempo...loses it for me..

  • Nice cover of a fantastic song! :)

  • I love TVZ's music and I love Evan Dando's music.

  • GD! That's so bad ass! Best since Townes himself! Such a great tribute!

  • cant say this guy does this song any justice, not that its bad or anything

it just proves how special townes was.

its not what you play its how you play it

  • @o0ochemicalCityo0o Have you heard his album version of this? I just put it up. Give it a try. I love Townes too.

  • This is pure brilliance. I cannot get enough of it! Would love to hear an entire album of really dark original songs by Evan Dando. Something like Nick Cave's murder ballads. I love all of Evan's upbeat pop songs but somehow he just seems even more suited for the darker bad ass stuff. You've still got it Evan. Rock on!

  • nice cover

  • Ev is so badass in this clip! It suits him.

  • Ev sweet Ev

  • I think Townes Van Zandt's fingerpicking technique is a crucial element of this song.

  • @NickeyWhitfield of course it is but i just havent mastered that style yet so I just did it more ramonesy . I believe there is some merit ( when one is covering a song ) to give it your own reading . THE IDEA IS TO BRING THE TUNE TO A NEW AUDIENCE . IF 20 PEOPLE GET TURNED ON TO TOWNES' ORIGINAL , THIS THING HAS SERVED IT'S PURPOSE ( AND AT LEAST IT'S BETTER THAN THE ONE ON VARSHONS )

  • Liam Gallagher from Oasis has told that Dando was another kind of groupie, a fruit cake. Live Forever!

  • I saw Townes Van Zandt live once and he was absolutely FUCKED!

    lol

  • @sleakitweasel Watch "Heartworn Highways"!

  • getting into a bit of codeine..nice

  • I don't know this guy, but I do like the cover. As a Townes fan, however, I must say that while he did it justice, no one can play this song as good as Townes- Its just impossible.

  • @BrandonNorth1120 i dunno, be good tanyas did a damn good version that was super slow and dark, like the character was watching their life flash before their eyes and recalling it all with regret before taking as much of that bottle of codeine as they could swallow. perhaps not "better" than tvz's version, but at least on a par with it and an excellent version illustrating the darkness.

  • Coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooolllllllllll

  • nice !...

  • winters knight. open your ears. zandt blows pretty boy dando out of the water.

  • @freddymoves yeah since music is always a competition and all...............I mean god forbid someone do a cover to pay homage to another artist they admire after all..............

    jack ass

  • @bobvillain Evan is a master of the cover. And it takes a lot

of skill to tweak the original & give it new life.

As I said Evan is a master of the cover & this version is breathtaking to me.

  • this is as good as Van Zants original. Brilliant

  • I really get tired of people shitting on Evan just because he is here and reads the comments. Why do it? Just to be mean? What is the point in that?

  • @eatthelies138 ooh I think someone's a little unhappy with their life ... Hope you feel better man and keep that vitriol coming if it helps . I quite enjoy comments like this . THANK YOU !!

  • This is a song for life. Neck out and chin up.

  • Sounds like a parody to me.Lazy player.

  • the cocaine clown is still the song for you

  • he is soooooooooooo awesome

  • sloppy? i thought it was perfect

  • this guy is a clown.

    NOTHING compared with townes

  • I agree! Townes Van Zandt's original is the best.

    As most originals are.

But - if it was'nt for these facts...

That I have enjoyed the Lemonheads for twenty years.

That I've followed & enjoyed Evan Dando's work ever since the band demiced...

I would never have known, that Townes Van Zandt even existed.

Sitting all the way over here in Denmark. Please tell me now...

Do you understand my appreation of Evan Dando?

Or are you just talking out of yor ass?

  • @HansDenmark01 The Lemon Heads were demiced? When?

  • @christlicker I don't know about when he posted that, but the Lemonheads are not split up right now. I'm going to see them in December.

  • @HansDenmark01 Hard to argue with that.. I love both of them.

  • @guitarlover891 May your chooks grow into Emus and knock your dunny down >>>

  • great singing bad playing.

  • Comment removed

  • @brazonegro Bad playing? R U kidding me? It was perfect...even if it does have a "loose & disconnected" feel to it, that's because that's how the character in the song is....the strum matches the mood of the lyrics. There's no possible way you could have ever touched a musical instrument in your life.

  • I'm in love with Townes and I'm not sure about this. I love Evan's voice but this sounds under rehearsed (a bad thing? maybe)

  • @shovingwords Unrehearsed? You're right, he's reading the words from a page.

  • Singing's pretty good. The guitar playing is dodgy though. You'd think after all this time he'd be a better player.

  • @rugshort stupid

  • @Belushipower What? I'm stupid? I just think he's guitar playing skills would've improved if he's listening to Townes.

  • @rugshort ...true

  • He's always been sloppy. In the best of ways

  • Crap cover

  • This guy is a turd.

  • @Khowst1 you know nothing about great music.

  • @mrgreanjeans No one is saying that he is Gram or Townes

  • Comment removed

  • @mrgreanjeans dude he's not townes and evan is playing it his way and doing his version of the song. I dont want to hear an exact copy of towne's version of the song i want to hear how other people play it. As for your idea of good music. haha yer weak. I live and grew up in nyc so imagine all the great music i saw in small clubs over here.

  • @pelicanmouse This is the video that made me a fan:)

    You're the bestest!

  • @kimowasabe But Townes was REAL LOOKER . He did truly have it all

  • Man, maybe I should look into The Lemonheads. I absolutley love Townes Van Zandt, and I just watch this guy cover a really great Gram Parsons song.

  • Brass Buttons?

  • Na, it was $1000 Wedding

  • Gram Parsons

  • @theonlytruepunk umm yeah I know, I'd replied to someone mentioning a Gram Parson's song Dando has covered, I tossed out Brass Button's as being one.........

  • Cool...

  • Gram has influenced some many bands but he never got any credit. Even ask emmylou harris...

  • Townes Van Zandt, actually.

  • Yes...my mistake. The funny thing is that I was introduced to both Gram and Townes around two years ago...both were incredible!

  • I may have misunderstood your comments but Gram has been dead 37 years.

  • @IAMBOG Yeah...I have become quite the Gram Parsons fan in the last couple of years. Brass Buttons started it all off. Evan rules...so do the Lemonheads!!!

  • so so good

  • Great version. Evan Dando definately knows how to make a song his own.

  • I got the Lemonheads new Album "Varshons" the other day, it's really good, it's an album of covers but mostly songs that aren't too well known. This song on this clip is in there. Evan has always done amazing covers so it's no surprise that this album is so cool. Totally , totally recommend it.

  • Evan is brilliant, he's sorta better on record though, If you haven't got his solo album "Baby I'm Bored" get it because it is absolutely amazing. I think it was a big mistake for the lemonheads to release the cover of "Mrs Robinson" because the auidence expects more songs like that and obviously you can't deliver them if you didn't write them. Evan is one of the most underrated singer songwriters in the world today.

  • I totally agree with you...Although I don't think he's better in studio, but I love all live performances.

  • I don't like this version...and I like Evan Dando. If you wanna hear a great version of this song check out The Mighty Stef's version with Shane Macgowan of The Pogues...It'll blow you away.

  • Have you heard the Varshons version? that's something really special.

  • that is a wonderful version. The best version I have heard is the performance by Townes Van Zandt, who wrote the song, in the 1970s doco Heartworn Highway, which was so beautifully bittersweet and melancolic it reduced his neighbour to tears.

  • sorry, thanks for the correction...wish i had a sticker to reward ya.......but yea

  • very nice..."it goes heaven, pergitory, then hell, then the blues....and i'm climbing up to the blues"....TVZ

  • Don't mean to be a dick, but I believe it's spelled 'purgatory'.

  • we robbed a man and brother did we fly

  • Comment removed

  • You gotta a lot of catchin' up to do! He's brilliant.

  • Oh, he's fun to look at. : )

  • pure brilliance

  • Great job Evan!

  • @pelicanmouse You blocked me?Take care and don't kill yourself.Get help , counseling or anything just don't commit suicide please. It is a terrible thing to do to your family even if you are unhappy with them.I will pray for you bro , hang in there.

  • @djosephj as I hobo drunken degenerate I must say if pelicanmouse blocked you you must have said something pretty fucked up.......

  • i like bass in the end, haha

  • My favorite from Varshons, wow.

  • amazing. dando: one of the last real us guitar-solo-driven-songwriters!

  • I just discovered this. It is good. Do you know of Grayson Capps, if not, check him out

  • Comment removed

  • amazing

  • Sublime Evan as ever.

  • fuckin brilliant

  • I'm surprised this isn't tagged as a Townes song. he's an amazing songwriter.

  • Yeah it seems wrong to not give credit when it's long due.Townes got screwed during his lifetime when it came to recognition , now that he has passed , it seems wrong not to acknowledge his songwriting.

  • They gave him credit and the beginning part of the video but I know what you mean.

  • Love it!

Is this sound really of the SM58 Mic?

  • Awesome, Varshons rules

  • first comment!!!!!!! woop!!!!! good song
