  • I downloaded a drum tab and it didnt have any ghostnotes on the snare all were high hat hits... but yours sounds ok to me...

  • Nice groove bro! The haters on here are so lame. Not everyone has high dollar mic's and serious video equipment. He did a great job teaching the groove.

  • Nice groove bro! The haters on here are so lame. Not everyone has high dollar mic's and serious video equipment. He did a great job teaching the groove.

  • That's the right way!

  • Lame.

You owe me 55 secs of my life back.

  • @SuperBrainMatter and now that I have read your constructive comment, we can call it even

  • Hang on, John Bonham and Stuart Copeland basically INVENTED the Snare ghost hit with this song and TOTO's tracks. I didn't hear a single ghost hit.

Try to relax and just play with a flux of the beat!

Shum da tiddle da dee da TA TA!!!

Lol, apoogies for my net tab/bad virtual vocab! I go flow!

  • @lokiboynorsegod The ghost notes are definitely there.

  • @dubbsmalone Haha, an annotation of your name spells

    dumbasole!

    You dumb ass hole

  • Great job!!

  • Dude Double time it with a ghost note after the accent, you just want to go faster ands faster haha

  • john bonham didnt play in that song.....he was dead

  • @peaceout739 Bonham died in 1980, the song was released in 1979

  • @dicko2704 really??? it mustve been like that last thing he recorded than, sweet cover btw, an bohnam or not its a sweet song

  • check out "phrase"

i think he would say to add the ghosts alternating within the hi-hat trips

  • ...sweet, dude.

spot on feel and the groove is poppin'...

  • AUDIO FAIL.

  • Man! I play almost it the same. But first triplet :1hi hat correct ,2nd ghost snare correct, 3rd open hi hat should be. I mean bd and open hi hat on 3. Try this one, then is really Fukin 'ell!! :))))) I play the main groove but the rest cannot. I love Bonham but all shuffle give to Purdie. BTW f++k TOTO players- I hate plastic shuffle. Anyway all af them play different feel... Please all of You who play shuffle dont try to be so tide to triplet. Try swing it up! GOOD JOB.

  • Fukin 'ell!! What the fuk is going on!? Good job you don't have the ghost notes on the snare right. Look up Phrase. He's as good as you'll get at replicating Bonzos drumming note for note.

  • Ya dude. That's pretty sick. John bohnham is the master! Anyone who can do any sort of bonham tripplets has tallent.

  • If that's not it like some of these guys are saying then it is very close I think. Very cool!

  • sounds pretty good for a camera mic and the beat is definitely close enough for my tastes. I wouldn't split hairs over the number of ghost notes.

  • ur a dumb fuck. ur a drummer and you cant handle the noise? and he is playin it with the same precise power and time of bonham. one would think ur delicate fuckin ears would pick that up

  • @clinthale2003

not really. to be precise, the space between notes in BOnhams shuffle is different thanwhat the video author is playing.

  • That's not it dude.

  • ok.

  • theres only two ghost notes man..... lose the middle one

  • Comment removed

  • @rrdrums110 Actually it is it :)

  • nailed it. let me see you hit the ride tho.

  • Sounds great!

  • In the pocket.

  • yo dude could you do a demo of nobodys fault but mine or bonzos montreaux?

  • BASSDRUM IS MASSIVE!! <3 :

    :D:D

  • super bad ass that shit owns

  • Geez, what's up with your bass drum? It sounds AWESOME!!!

  • sounds like the end of the world. lol. tight though. nice one.

  • THATS the right way man! were you not lifting HH because you wanted to show its a consistant shuffle? Gotta love that Ludwig 402! although the sound quality on here don't do it justice

  • @urajokeMC exactly, the whole point of this video was just to show that bonham plays the shuffle pattern on the hat through out

  • pretty good, a bit behind the beat. missing an accent on the hat.

  • killer feel , much better then that HACK in Florida with the electric kit

  • solid man!

  • Very nice!

  • what's your snare? Sounds nice

  • for each beat, how hard are you hitting the bass?

  • SWEET....you are own it like wino on the street.

  • NICE

  • Great Job!

  • yeah good but TURN YOUR MIC INPUT DOWN FUCKING HELL

  • Very insightful, Im glad you felt necessary to tell me that even though there have obviously been people to comment the sound quality before you.

  • too close to the mic

  • great observation..

  • wtf man whats with ur audio on this video

    "shit"

  • yea just a close cam with no mic.

  • sounds pretty damn close tune wise

  • Sounds pretty good to me dude!

    Check out my version.

    All the best,

    Fronzo

  • Thanks bfdrum86 for helping me out on this groove. Ignore the guys telling you that it's not perfect. Perhaps they should post a video of them doing it correctly. I'm waiting.

  • Everyone's a critic and boy they're feasting on this guy like vultures on sun fried fresh road-kill. The dude sounds fine, probably better than most of you. Yet, videos with audio this raunchy should be banned from YouTube.

My only drum criticism is the HHs sound awful - in most situations; They are good to torture critic's ears that feel a need to pull their heads out of their ass long enough to spit up a few greasy terds of anal wisdom on YouTube videos :)

Keep on rockin Mr. bfdrum86 dude.

  • there is a "john bonham - track 22 outtake" that he is demonstrating, and hes right on the money. im not sure if bonham plays it the same in the actual song. i myself cant hear alot of ghosts in the the song.

  • He's not putting in too many ghost notes... in fact there should be one more directly after the accent, like a double stroke but the second hit is a ghost. Overall one of the closest I've seen on YT to the actual beat.

  • Check the original drum outtake by Bonham. There are two ghost notes, for fuck's sake. That's the fact.

  • ...and a big "Fuckin' 'ell" at the start. Major omission from this video !

  • lol.... I'm surprised no one picked this up. "Fuckin' ell" is what Bonham says at the beginning of an Fool In The Rain Outtake.

  • too many ghosts buddy your teaching people the wrong thing

  • thanks buddy .... i guess if i dont pull the ghost notes out noone will know how to.

  • lol for real...

  • Whoa someone called the ghostnote cops. He was trying to help people learn how to play it. If you learn to play it the way he is playing with ghost notes you will be better off. I'm a beginning drummer and learning to play this way helps your brain learn to communicate with your arms and legs. Its easy to cut out some notes later. And in a lot of Zeppelin live shows, they didn't play the same as in the studio. So turn off caps lock, shutup, and post a video response to prove your point.

  • Very nice. The tricky thing about this groove is to get the hi-hat right, really.

  • I forgot to say how good the drumming is!!!!!

  • recorded on a video camera for instructional benefit. As long as it can be heard well enough to understand the pattern im not really interested in re-recording. Im not trying to show off how good my drums sound, this was for people who are trying to learn fool in the rain.

    -Bobby

  • I disagree that the sound is 'bad'.....what's a bad sound in music?? You could build a hit record around this amazing 'junk' sound!! People should listen again to some of the early rock and roll...they are 'junk' sounds with LOADS of character!

  • If this is intended for people who want to learn Fool in the rain then PLAY IT CORRECTLY!! this is just a shuffle with the same kick pattern & hi hat as Fool... THERE IS ONLY 2 GHOST NOTES!!!

for the most part the triplets in Bonhams shuffle are as follows - 1_3 223 3_3 423. 3rd note of the first triplet is open hats the ghost are the 2nd note of 2nd triplet and 2nd note of 4th triplet. 2 GHOSTS!!!

  • sorry greg, your just not listening... although plenty of my playing freely ghosts wherever i feel comfortable YOU should be able to hear Bonham doing the same through out the song.. I happened to throw in many ghosts to show how and where they could be placed.

I can play it correctly, and that comes from being able to listen correctly

  • Only "2" Ghost Notes and, Sorry to Shit on Your Party but, Bonhan isn't FREELY playing Ghost Notes wherever he feels like throwing them in According to your way of playing the song. He's playing a patteren that "SIMPLY" has 2 Ghost Notes. PERHAP'S you should Listen a Little Better. If you can Listen Correctly then,, You Should be able to play Play the Drum Part Correctly, WTF.

  • I'd suggest a bit of aural training dude!! The basis of this beat is a well planned shuffle by Bonham. YES there is slight variation, but for the most part it only has 2 ghosts per bar. your shuffle is made up of constant triplets ...i've studied this enough to know that it is because he only uses 2 ghosts it gives his shuffle a stronger back beat instead of that constant feel, but what ever floats ya boat dude! The information is there for those who care!

    cheers :)

  • This type of shuffle is 4, 8th note triplets over the 4 beats of the bar(123 223 323 423 is an easy way to count it) The triplets are played on the hats (1st & 3rd of each triplet) and ghost snare(2nd note of each). There is slight variation to what he plays, but for the most part the triplets in Bonhams shuffle are as follows - 1_3 223 3_3 423. 3rd note of the first triplet is open hats the ghost are the 2nd note of 2nd triplet and 2nd note of 4th triplet. 2 GHOSTS!!!

  • The part played on the ride is 2 quarter note triplets over the 4 beats of the bar. (123 123). This patern feels a bit weird to play as it kind of goes against the straight feel that the 8th note shuffle has, probably because it's 6 notes over 4 which is a polyrhythm, same as the 8th note part which is 12 over 4. He accents the 2nd & 4th notes of the bar with his foot on the hats, and the ghosts on the snare remain the same but with slight variations

  • gregmartyr dude, you really need to get a life - or at least get laid, even if you have to pay for it.

  • theaggravator dude, you must have thought really hard about that ...nice try!

  • Do us all a favor and get off youtube you fuckass.

you probably just sit at home on youtube finding videos to post hateful comments on, if you ask me, your the one that needs to get a life and stop hating on everybody.

  • once again, i understand that the majority of fool in the rain is played with ghosts exactly how you said.. my ghosting was intended to show where they could be placed and to really show the triplet feel.

  • and ... Although i dont list it in the heading anymore, this was originally only intended as a response to bazy beats video who says you cant play a continuous hihat shuffle and open the hat... which is mainly what i find most people have trouble with. This is why i break down the shuffle both without the hat open and with.

  • Great! You've got it down, but you should work on the audio a bit. You're overdriving the mic.

  • that sounds spot on to me, excellent work - but pleaseeeeeee sort your recording/sound/mic out!

  • I like your interpretation of the Bonham style. Nice breakdown of the beat.

  • thats badass bro, excellent. it helps a lot

  • check out the other video he's got if you're a drummer. hes a natural drummer and watchin him helped me.

  • oh yeah, thundersome! wanna join?

  • idky but it sounds really badass when you go from breaking it down then adding the bassdrum lol. awesome sounding hihats tho. even thru the camera mic i can tell the tone sounds awesome on the drums.

  • that was excellent...when you broke down the beats and slowed down, it opened a new door for me. you should demonstrate some more classics for us if you get bored. btw, what kind of drums do you have?

  • thank you, Those are my turquoise dw collectors that are now for sale. Ill be recording again once my practice space is fixed up with my new kit.

  • very good!

  • il suono fa schifo ma penso dipenda anche dalla ripresa piu che altro, cmq grazie per la spigazione.

    buono.

  • thats more the way i figured it exept i dont bother to hit the hh as it closes and i like to add a goast note after the snare is hit twice as bonham often did in the song.

  • i also usually play the hh through just to keep the right hand pattern the same through out. I also play the snare ghost after the 3, but its difficult to hear becasue of the ring.

  • Nicely Done!

    Check out my version!

  • rip it dude sounds great!

  • nice :D

  • snare drum needs tuning. maybe some MoonGel. other than that, this is a good interpretation.

  • thats more of the camera than the snare, dont need moongel when you have good drums

  • Haha agreed entirely.

  • Awesome! Been trying to learn this groove forever. This is going to help a lot. Thanks for taking the time to post it.

  • perfect! it took me forever to figure that beat out but i mastered it myself too! very nice! now synchronize the fill work and youd have it golden!

  • awesome dude. good beat

  • awesome

  • What snare are you using? I know the audio in this video is bad but the snare still sounds good to me :)

  • dw nickle snare drum. trust me , the audio from the video camera does zero justice. Guitar center usually has them in stock.

  • you a nailed the shuffle!

    bravo!

  • This is better than "Bazy Beat" interpretation.

  • I agree, but I think you're doing too many ghost notes on the snare

  • thats cool , just means you need to listen to the song a little closer ;)

  • aggreed there is a perfect amount of ghost notes excatly how i play it

  • it sounds fine to play that many ghost notes in that beat although with fool in the rain it might not be as good. i beleve bonham did 2 g. notes and sometimes 3 per measure in this song.

  • actually, 2 and sometimes just 1.

  • id love to see the notation & how you're counting it.

  • leave your email and i can send you a pic of hand writtin notation. but for now. Hihat pattern is just quarter note triplets without the second note of the triplet. hihat: 1 let , 2 let , 3 let , 4 let . hihat opens on the let of 1. bass drum is on 1 , let of 1, let of 2 , and let of 4. snares on 3 , and ghosted on almost all of the the triplet notes that you took away from the hihat , but you can play around with that. email if you want a pic of my notes.

  • not sure if this went through here is the email fnkymtrs and its a yahoo address. It wont let me enter the full email address for some reason.

  • Good job, this is pretty much exactly how I play it.

  • cool man , thanks, you should upload a vid i would love to see more people playing it.

  • Thanks for the vid...that was very nice dude. BzB :-)
