hey .... i tried to do the same thing but my solid state HD is 8gb .... but when the MAC OSX 10.5 is about to finish installing ... it says install failed and that installer could not make the computer start up from volume .... now i tried to start it up from start up utilities and it starts up but once i reach the backup section of the start up i choose "do not transfer my info now" then continue.... but it just resets it self to the welcome screen....if u no please comment me back....thanx

what method did you use to install OS X on dell mini 9. It's too bad the only laptop with full compatibility with OS X is the mini 9 and even worse that they stopped production of the mini 9.

It can, it just takes some time and effort. I made a hackbook out of my HP Mini 1000 netbook. It worked perfectly.

this is great. Osx is not bad, but it's got a while to go if you ask me. But I'll grant that unix is solid. What this proves is that people are crying out for a cheaper apple computer. And they are sick of getting ripped off by apple. Which is fair enough. Maybe they should think about a macbook mini. But with an ssd and a decent amount of ports, and with a pricetag under a $1000. Yes apple, it can be done. just do it.

it's kinda funny how Mac OS X recognises the Atom processor in System Properties, yet no Macs are equipped with one. Also like the time Steve Jobs demoed Mac OS X running on a Pentium 4.

It makes one wonder about Apple's intentions...

oh man... I want a Mini 9 hackintosh, looks like such a perfect little machine. How is the audio quality from the headphone jack BTW? I've used a lot of cheap laptops with crappy headphone audio - lots of hiss and noise usually.

Just to let you know the SD Slots work using the DellEFI install method. Only works with SD cards...but they work.

I have one friend who has OS X and then Windows running under VM Ware. Says it works great.

Another way would be to split the boot drive and dual boot it.

No.. that doesn't work. This is a specific hack to install OSX on a specific machine. Not all PCs will work. You'd have to do a lot of research to figure that one out.

Go buy the Retail, in box sitting on the shelf in a retail store copy of OSX guys. It makes the install much easier.

Check out the forums at MyDellMini, there's a Mac OSX section there, and we have a very automated installer setup. It installs the drivers the machine needs.

Actually, the drivers are hacked Mac drivers for Hackintoshes. Also, the kernel itself is most likely modified to run on this hardware, as it's open source.
