Im with you why ban a incandescent light that just produces nice light in your home however it will effect dimmer switches because cfls that are dimmable don't dim very much and some cfls are expensive to buy I'm stocking up on incandescent bulbs because they produce nice light and they are dimmable and they are cheep to buy people are just bothed about a bulb that just produces light in your home enyway it was Joseph swan who made the bulb
i dont know much about the LED bulb's but the Energy savers aka Compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) contain carcinogenic substances including phenol, naphthalene and styrene aswell as 5mg's of mercury..
Changing lightbulbs is a big part of my job so we get get alot of info regarding the H&S of CFL's and some of the pics i've seen regarding them are truly horrible..
The one i remember involved a guy who stood on a bulb in his socks and he got mercury poisoning in his foot :( not nice
I like the warm up time for the bulbs in the bathroom since I don't like to be blinded first thing in the morning, but you're right, the longevity is grossly overstated. Most of my bulbs average one or two years, not the five years that they state although, I've had some bulbs last five years, just not enough of them. I'm buying a bunch of incandescent bulbs before they're gone for awhile, I imagine that further economic collapse will bring them back.
I agree with you

They need to make a LED that never dies and then I'll buy it for that amount.

Yes! I'll keep my incandescent bulbs and 125 Watt Phenom X6 (overclocked) and video card that requires two 6-pin PCI-e connectors.
And I'll keep my guns too!
