Sorry you are frustrated. Keep in mind that this is an introductory video, not a teaching tool I have lots of teaching tools on my websites. Just search for straw bale and you'll find me/the videos you are looking for. You can buy them as DVDs or instant downloads.
Nice house, but what ever happened to people actually narrating their videos? "This is when we did this ... after you've done that, you do this" ... everybody takes the lazy way out, puts a bunch of pictures in a row, throws on some music that youtube didn't ban yet, and calls it a video. Sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but after a dozen of these, it gets frustrating trying to find one with actual human beings telling you something about their home.
Cost is hard to calculate without more details and some time/effort. As a rough estimate, I built the majority of my houses professionally for roughly $150/SF measured to the exterior walls. This did not include the architectural fees but did include the permits. Architect/designers and engineering can add another $5-$10 re SF.
how much would a house like this cost? i mean if the land is already paid for, but the plans, permit and legal stuff, and materials still need to be covered?
As long as they pass the basic building codes that all buildings are required to pass, you should be fine. Sometimes the building departments wants very specific plans because they don't know how things are to be done and need someone to lay it out for them, for example, electrical wiring.
what types of permits are required for these buildings? My county claims that any alternative building needs strictly designed plans, and approval by state licensed architect.... hopefully its not more trouble than its worth. Any tips would be greatly appreciated
We can do it too !
