"I wrote, 'Too many people preaching practices,' I think is the line. I mean, that was a little dig at John and Yoko...there was 'You took your lucky break and broke it in two" - Paul
You're right, the album was co-credited to Linda because of the financial and legal troubles he was having at the time but essentially it's a Paul solo record.
It still isn't a "Wings" song so it's odd that he's referring to this as one in the concert.
Denny Laine didn't play on "Ram". The only future member of Wings that played on "Ram" was the drummer Denny Seiwell and Seiwell was only in "Wings" from 1971-1973.
Hugh McCracken and David Spinozza also appeared on "Ram."
Great song but what the hell is Paul talking about, this isn't a "Wings" song.
"Too Many" people was on his "Ram" LP that was released in 1971 Before he formed the band Wings. It's was his second post Beatle Solo album but technically it's a collaborative album because for some reason he decided to credit his wife Linda as a collaborator.
@JohnQ1127 it's actually wings as he had other members on, Denny Laine is one of them....because of the multiple lawsuits at the time is why it's credited to him but mostly Linda in order to get the cash flow...otherwise at the time, cash would've gone to others.
the lead guitarist is real good but he totally "over-played" the last lead guitar part of too many people..........I hate when musicians do that. Just because you can play 20 noted per second does not make you an efective or enjoyable guitar player
@onlyjoetee well.......he was probably trying to impress paul. It's like john lennon once said to a new bass player he recruited....."I hear you're pretty good....just don't play too many notes"
@inkey2 yeah, but the LAST thing you want from a bass player is someone who's "busy".its a little different with a lead guitarist,on pieces like this, you wanna shred a bit.,especially live..
Paul McCartney is truley a living legend. Probably the greatest songwriter who ever lived, & yet he remains humble,& down to earth. He was the one who arranged the Concert for 911 in NYC after the attack on the WTC. Bless you Paul, forever in the hearts of millions.
One of Paul's most desirable attributes is the ability to make his audiences forget about what is happening outside in their normal lives and to turn an entire crowd into a bunch of people that get along and show love to each other and all through his music
this song was a shot at lennon....too many people preaching practices....which lennon responded to paul in the song how do you sleep....the only thing youve done was yesterday, and since youve come youre just another day
I have lived my life in wonder at what God has given the United States and what this country has accomplished. In return God has sent us Paul McCartney and his music, a truly wonderful gesture on his part. The United States is truly blessed to have a great country and to enjoy McCartney's music.
@surferjay1 probably; but Paul McCartney is the GREATEST COMPOSER of XXTH Century together with Lennon and impossible to compare him with anyother singer! Mercury was an incredible singer and showman but McCartney changed the xxth century culture with The Beatles and this is the story!
It is only on Paul's concerts that I break down and cry when I see how his audience reacts. Seriously, I have seen many concerts of many great bands, but it's only on Paul's performances that watching his audience also touches me so deeply (I was born in 1974). Seeing people of 3 different generations enjoying something in common is really something. It's in fact something that even "Beatles" themselves didn't have back in 60's when their fans were all only one generation.
I love how the crowd quietly screams for "Too Many People" then the instant the guitar solo stops and Paul sings "SHE CAME IN THROUGH THE BATHROOM WINDOW!" the crowd goes absolutely ballisitic.
EVERYONE that sees Paul live, says it's the best show they ever saw. I never got to see him:( I envy all you lucky folks that have gotten a chance to see this amazing man live.
Seems like Paul and John had fun with trashing one another in their recordings....I always get a kick out of seeing the two "beetles" doing it on the on the back cover of Ram. Also, I like looking at the back cover of Imagine. John is holding a pig by the ears in the same sort of way Paul is holding the ram on Ram. How Do you Sleep? is a great response by the walrus.
@fazg2 Paul was Wings. His current band are sidemen. So were the members of Wings with Denny Laine being a minor exception. Wings was always a showcase for Paul. "Too Many People" song has gotten better with time. Perhaps because his early Wings music was underappreciated and panned. Much of it was better than many though tat the time. The Beatles were to fresh in many critics memories. How do you top that?! Hard to do, though Paulie has succeeded frequently on doing so.
John Lennon Murio como mueren los genios. a esta hora paul McCartney esta en su mansion gastando dinero. y aun asi la gente se pregunta quien fue mas grande?
John lennon made paul the man he is 2day. So its because of john that paul leads the life he does. N paul gets owned in how do u sleep? But paul n george is my 2nd fav beatle n ringo well he the most USELESS ONE!!!!
@yesiamize I would say Paul was more important than John, considering the 1966-1970 period, which is the most important in Beatles career. In the 66-70 period Paul was the most important beatle. Just one example: Sgt' Peppers album. And I'm not a Macca blind fan. I love John a lot.
@yesiamize But my point is: Paul was more important for The Beatles in those special years not because he was more talented, but because John wasn´t that much interested in The Bealtes anymore. In my opinion they both were at the same level as songwriters and they did their best writing together.
@julian1775 I totally agree with your statement. I kind of look back at Lennon as wasted talent... his voice and writing sensibility are beautiful, but I think drugs and self esteem issues really stunted him. i mean no ill words for John, and it saddens me to think about it.
John was more like Beethoven, frustrated and couldn't write a great quantity of material. But when inspired could make the best music you've ever heard.
Paul was like Mozart, he could just sit down and write a diddy in five minutes that would take others weeks.
@julian1775 - Agreed. I saw The Beatles' entire career and saw Paul in concert in 1990. All four (yes, Ringo too!) were immensely talented ... beyond that, actually. I've often said if Paul was "the rocket," then Joh was the "rocket fuel." Together, they were way beyond magical. However, John was the leader and the heart and soul of the greatest band of them all. Nearly 50 years later, and Paul can pack any venue anywhere anytime with four generations of raving fans. Who else can? FoJ
@mecetnoca Yeah!! Why not?!! For all those years Paul has been saying that in the future those hidden pearls from his first albuns would be found and...if the time is not now...when will be?!! Stop playing Hey Jude and Yesterday please!!!
@Viuomar I think proper McCartney followers know that anyway, don't you? For someone who's listened to McCartney basically since birth, I could go through each album and name you a gem that's rarely heard, Beatles or solo. You can't take a away what Yesterday or Hey Jude have done but yeh, there's great stuff on 'McCartney' and 'Ram' where he isn't nessecarily trying to please anyone, which is maybe why it appeals. Oh Woman Oh Why WHAT A TRACK!
@burnsybaby1987 Yeah (Yeah!Yeah!)! The "Another Day" single B-side! "Heart of the Country", "Junior`s Farm" and "Tomorrow" are from those great forgotten tracks too!
Esta cancion se la hizo como un ataque a su gran amigo y compañero del grupo, quien ya no esta mas desde hasce 30 años, y encima hoy en dia la sigue cantando.
@MOSKII58 It is Clint Black. By the way, I saw Paul on this tour. Great show. So nice, I went twice. I also have the dvd, there are a lot of stars in the audience.
Paul is the man, no one alive today comes close to him as an entertainer and a magnet of people, everyone comes together at these concerts and celebrates together. No race, sexual orientation, no gender, it's just all Pauly and the music
all 4 Beatles were amazing in their own ways, and all their solo careers were all "good" music in some peoples' opinions too. Let's remember them as 1 epic united band and not say nasty things especially about George and John who cant defend themselves anymore
Wings and McCartney solo have songs that are just as good as some Beatle songs, that's not so hard to know, all you have to do is really listen to the music!
He is the very same Paul McCartney that was a Beatle, so naturally he would write some songs that are just as good or better!
Beatles and Wings are both good- but its not fair to compare people in a band playing different instruments or-differnent bands. They're different people, different style all amazing music
There will never ever be any Songwriters/Musicians as great as Lennon/McCartney in my whole lifetime, or probably in the whole 21st Century! They were the most original (I happen to love their "later" Beatles and solo stuff afterwards), most awesome composers I've ever heard! Although, Irving Berlin, Bing Crosby, Fanny Crosby, Aram Khachaturian, Beethoven and F. Chopin were truly amazing, too! Yes, even Fanny Crosby (late 1800s)!
What the hell is it with people always hating John when liking Paul, or the other way around. Thease guys were fucking great, John, Paul, George and Ringo. And yes pauls songs had meaning, they were maybe not as obvious as in johns songs, but they had.
I'm sure tha tall you McCa fans would cry if you ever could John and Paul playing together again, becasye you would see the best of them both again, i'm sure that any McCa fan would cry watching John alive, and i cry when i see McCa, i would cry if i ever see him in a street of London, or anywhere in a concert.
@ZZJoCa , Why short change yourself? What you're suggesting does not exsist, even when they where all alive! The only time I remember them playing together after they retired to the studio was on the roof of apple studios shortly before they broke up! Paul and george Martin tried everything to keep them together, but in the end that bitch yoko won out thanks to john's mother complex, but that's another story. I would disagree with you as far as the magic not being there! PAUL is pure magic live!
@MrSharkey11 Well maybe it's cause I was there in the beginning and now I'm older, but like I said, & though John was my fav, I'm totally fascinated with Paul. I spent last night just watching his old interviews and tunes. He's so smooth and I admit, Wings and his music were uncannily good but the excitement and bouncing in my chair part that the Beatles invoked in me is missing. I never saw them live, unfortunately but thank God for Stevie Riks.

@RosySuperBeatleFan I'm actually surprised Paul did this song, because his old friend and follow Beatle founder John Lennon took this song as a veiled shot at him and Yoko, especially the lines,"You took your lucky break, and broke it in two, now what can be done for you, you broke it in two" and "Too many people preachin' practices". Paul did admit the "preachin' practices" line did have to do with John and Yoko, but the whole song WAS NOT about them. John responded with "How Do You Sleep?"

all 4 Beatles were amazing in their own ways, and all their solo careers were all "good" music in some peoples' opinions too. Let's remember them as 1 epic united band and not say nasty things especially about George and John who cant defend themselves anymore

Wings and McCartney solo have songs that are just as good as some Beatle songs, that's not so hard to know, all you have to do is really listen to the music!
He is the very same Paul McCartney that was a Beatle, so naturally he would write some songs that are just as good or better!
thumbsaloft 1 year ago
@thumbsaloft
John,Paul, and George all composed epic songs as solo artists-songs that could have been put on the 'next beatles album'.

Beatles and Wings are both good- but its not fair to compare people in a band playing different instruments or-differnent bands. They're different people, different style all amazing music
4FabBEATLES 1 year ago
@4FabBEATLES are you implying that the wings are somehow anywhere close to as good as the beatles? that is assinine.

Cool! I didn't know Paul ever performed songs from Ram. It's my favorite post-Beatles effort, although All Things Must Pass is neck and neck.

As much as I idolize Paul for his songs and ability there's just not that magic thingy without John, Ringo and George.
ZZJoCa 1 year ago
@ZZJoCa yes there is......you just need a tune up imo.
histre101 1 year ago
@ZZJoCa , Why short change yourself? What you're suggesting does not exsist, even when they where all alive! The only time I remember them playing together after they retired to the studio was on the roof of apple studios shortly before they broke up! Paul and george Martin tried everything to keep them together, but in the end that bitch yoko won out thanks to john's mother complex, but that's another story. I would disagree with you as far as the magic not being there! PAUL is pure magic live!
MrSharkey11 1 year ago
@MrSharkey11 Well maybe it's cause I was there in the beginning and now I'm older, but like I said, & though John was my fav, I'm totally fascinated with Paul. I spent last night just watching his old interviews and tunes. He's so smooth and I admit, Wings and his music were uncannily good but the excitement and bouncing in my chair part that the Beatles invoked in me is missing. I never saw them live, unfortunately but thank God for Stevie Riks.
ZZJoCa 1 year ago
@ZZJoCa Wow, you're of my same opinion, also John is may fav, but i love Paul, he's my idol alive.

i thought he doesn`t perform ram songs live.
and why does he says at 0:09 "this is for the wings fans" if this is from the ram and ram wasn`t the wings.ram was paul and linda mccartney!
and wasn`t ram all about attacking John?

"Too Many People/She Came Into The Bathroom Window"... nice nice nice combination! Sounds great=D
RosySuperBeatleFan 1 year ago
@RosySuperBeatleFan I'm actually surprised Paul did this song, because his old friend and follow Beatle founder John Lennon took this song as a veiled shot at him and Yoko, especially the lines,"You took your lucky break, and broke it in two, now what can be done for you, you broke it in two" and "Too many people preachin' practices". Paul did admit the "preachin' practices" line did have to do with John and Yoko, but the whole song WAS NOT about them. John responded with "How Do You Sleep?"
