  • what the heck is crisco?

  • How do you add color to it? You mentioned there were two different times to possibly add color.

  • Thank you! This was really fun. Obstacles in my house were that it was too cold, we live up north and tend to keep our temp in the house between 58-65, I had lots of tiny balls at first and thought well hmmm I bet if I nuke this for a couple of secs in the microwave it'll soften, so I added a little bit of crisco and threw the whole thing in the microwave, and when it was warm I put it back in the mixer and wa-la it worked!!

  • does it taste good?

  • @CourageRed Yes, it tastes good, unlike store bought. Store bought tastes nasty.

Also out of all types of fondant marshmallow tastes best. :)

  • This is awesome and super easy, I just wish I found it before I ordered glycerine, I made it and I only made a half batch just to try it and it comes out great, thanks a bunch...:)

  • i kind of want to just eat that whole thing now. No wrapping no flatting it out.. just eat :D

  • do i have to use crisco :( eekk

  • @littlechef9 I feel the same way about crisco it's kinda gross. An alternative crisco is butter, but butter can melt so its best to use crisco. (sadly)

  • instead of sifting can i put it into the bowl and turn on the kitchen aid on low for a few seconds

  • @hirashuku If u don't sift your powdered sugar your fondant will be lumpy.

  • Very different the the recipes I've seen, now I am tempted to use both of them to see if theirs a difference. The main difference is no shortening was used and they used only a bowl for mixing, no kneading. Hmm. I'll have to try.

  • i swear your hands look just exaclty like my moms:) and thanks for the vid very useful

  • my first try was a complete desaster..the fondant was so hard and dry...it had to much sugar..so i think 2 lbs is to much...so then my second try y put 3/4 of the 2 lbs pound andd it was perfect...

  • Thank you for making this video :-) using this for my daughters first birthday!

  • Very useful video, thanks :)

  • (itstaylorproductions) if u are referring to the marshmallow cream/fluff, it will not work for fondant. It's vital to have the actual marshmallows, sorry.

  • does it have to b 2 pounds since i dont have a machine to weight them

  • Best fondant recipe that I have seen so far, thanks for sharing!

  • ok, so do you still need to warm up the marshmallows if you have the "already melted" cream version of it, or do you have to warm it up so it will mix better? please answer im tryin to make a cake for Christmas

  • What size cakes will this recipe cover? Thank you

  • I KNEAD fondant and I NEED fondant! :D

  • I made this before and it was great. Thank you.I am planning to make little animals from rice krispy treats, then cover them in fondant. Could I store them in tupperware to keep before using them on the cake?

  • I made this recipe and mine came out great thanks for sharing!

  • this is soo much easier than the way my teacher showed me! saves me so much time!

  • Hello, Workoutchamp. Nice video. I noticed that before you put in the shortening that you already had something inside the bowl. Is this more powdered sugar in addition to the 2 lbs added after you added the shortening?

  • I use this video EVERY time I make fondant. It ALWAYS works. Thank you sooo much.

  • Thank you for being kind enough to share your knowledge and brave enough to endure the world's critiques and criticisms. I hope you receive enough positive to continue helping those of us who appreciate your effort. Be blessed in your endeavors.

  • If i dont sift the icing sugar does it make a diffrance ?

  • This is actually less messy then other videos

  • so, what do u then do with that thing? Does that turn to icing, is that the cake? I got here over a Portal 2 vid xD

  • and does the sugar have to be shifted

  • @everythingbyemily23 Yes she does say in the first part of the video at 1:07 :)

  • @Pennybear0302 yes ik but if its powdered sugar isnt it already shifted?

  • @everythingbyemily23 its a fine powder but sometimes there are little hard clumps in the powder so sometimes its best to shift the powder to take out all the little clumps.

  • what should i do if i dont have a kitchen aid?

  • @everythingbyemily23 do the same with any other mixer?

  • @hellobooom okayy thankss

  • Anyone know the english equivalent of crisco ? thanks.

  • @MrCoolchick17 it's a lard.. like white solid vegetable oil

  • whao i m 11 and i loveee this vidio

  • @dameandsades Crisco is vegetable shortening. Powdered sugar is icing sugar

  • do you HAVE to sift the powered sugar ?

  • starting from 5:05 i want to kneed it too.it looks so smooth and soft

  • where do you get those sifters?

  • That dough... it's so beautiful!

  • can you substitute crisco for butter in thes recipe?

  • @Mr379592 crisco is vegetable shortening u can substitute it but the fondant will be tough and hard to work with

  • i made this and let me say THANK YOU for showing me how. It was delicious!

  • So I finally jumped in to make my first batch of fondant. Seems my mixer bowl was not quit big enough. I did like you said and had the kneading arm up a bit from the bottom. It started spilling out so I went to turn the mixer off. Instead I put it on high!.. ohh yea.. you got it.... and so did I... ALL OVER THE KITCHEN! Looked like an episode of I Love Lucy... Guess I need some practice...LMBO Thanks for the recipe tho..

  • i wanna make halloween cookies using fondant, could i leave the fondant out over night? if i make the cookies n cover it with fondant can i put it in the frig or not? well it melt or dry up, how many days before can i make the fondant before hallowen?

  • Crisco is the brand, the product is vegetable shortening.

Thanks so much for this tutorial. I was using a different recipe, and literally glued my hands together in a ball of would-be fondant LOL My husband found this video again for me and together we were able to unstick our kitchen and actually get a ball of fondant for my efforts. At one point, my daughter came into the kitchen and asked if I needed help "cleaning the glue" off my hands lol.

  • Love this! Thanks!

  • yummy

  • Thank you for your quick answer! I googled vegetable oil and sunflower oil came out the same. So that we do have.

    Thanks again!

  • what is crisco?? I don't know it here in Holland. Maybe something else I can use??

  • @PienderZ it is kind o vegetable oil. there is no crisco in my country either. you can use any kind of veggie oil or do it with out crisco

  • @PienderZ Do you have vegetable shorting?

  • Thank you, ma'am.

  • hat if i dont have a dough hook?

  • Marshmallow fondant is tastier than the commercial pre-made fondant that tastes like plastic. It is so much softer and easier to handle too!

  • @rjssm I know right, what is there to dislike?? ;)

  • @rjssm They don't have anything better, to do with their life's.

  • Nice lady...great tutorial!!!

  • awesome! I'm going to try this. I bet it does taste way better than the commercial stuff.

I was wondering if it tastes like marshmallows though? I like them, but not sure I would want my cake tasting like a marshmallow, and I noticed you said it could be flavored.

  • @workoutchamp what happens if you dont have a dough hook? :)

  • @1997flowerpower I mixed by hand with a spatula coated in crisco

  • Whoever is a first timer making fondant. USE THIS RECIPE. I made a 2 birthday cakes one with purple into the white fondant which made it a cool purple tiedye and i did that with blue as well. After just roll it out and spread over your cake. Thankyou this really helped my friends and I!

  • better than play dough ...

  • thx vey good display and explanation

  • does it have to b in a mixer?

  • @178chocolatebars it doesn't matter , you could mix it yourself , it just need a little more time .

  • @zakiz thanks :)

  • would you b able to add the gel color to the mixer before kneading the fondant to save time?

  • oh, fiy, that would be powdered glucose...

  • hi there fellow bakers, can I replace the powdered sugar with glucose? I'm wanting to try this out...

  • what is crisco? do u really need it when ur mixing the whole thing in the mixer?

  • @phoebecutie143 crisco is shortnening to me it feels like butter lol

  • Do you have to sift the powdered sugar and can you use a electronic handheld mixer

  • @hirashuku Yes you HAVE TO sift it, that basically takes out all the sugar clumps & your fondant wont be as bumpy. Using a mixer really wont do anything like that!

  • i just made this: delicious! it certainly is a bit messy, but it tastes so much better than the store bought stuff. thank you for sharing this!

  • do you hav to use the mixing thing

  • @misskaela2000 Not really. You could do it by hand, but it'll take longer.

  • what does sifted mean? please answer

  • @selenagomez092899 that you run your sugar (or flour) through a strainer

  • how does it taste and can you color it

  • @necemattix6 it tastes like you eat sugar..I made it yesterday but didn't like how it tastes...but it looks pretty. and yes you can color it.

  • do i need to have the stand mixer with dough hook? because i only got hand mixer.. :(

  • @twinks21

    I've done it without.

  • thank u!!! u rock!!!!!!!!!!

  • I totally disagree.

Crisco is extremely important if you want to be able to roll this mixture out,

  • @jmugrad1 i rolled my mixture out, without crisco and the fondant was really nice and smooth,i live in uk and you cannot find crisco.

  • @jmugrad1

I made a wedding cake last week. I made all of my fondant without Crisco. The mixture was like elephant skin.

Every time I tried to roll it out it would crack. So, I had to add Crisco to it to make it work.

  • @jmugrad1 i have a little question did when i made mixture can i let it rest in the refregirator all night and used in the morning? and when u cover a cake with this mixture can i put it in the refrigerator ? or should i let it out side. i am new in this so i new little help :)

  • @Cchogardepony2 I've made this recipe before and when I mix the ball of fondant, I just wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and keep it on the counter. If it is stiff, you can put it in the microwave for a few seconds to get it pliable again. And once you cover your cake, leave it out at room temp or else you'll cause condensation when you take it out of the fridge.

  • @AutumnBrooke thank u how long can i leave a fondant cake out side?

  • does anyone know if this fondant is soft or hard once it expose to air? bcoz im needing a soft ones for making a cupcakes? much appreciated for ur reply. thnk u!

  • @tontycles 8:14 - 8:26 It'll harden if exposed to air^^

  • i made this with white and pink marshmellow, without the crisco, and it came out perfect!

  • what if I do not have a microwave? will an oven work ?

  • Crisco isn't all that important, all it's really doing is keeping the mixture from being too overly sticky. With or without Crisco it's gonna be sticky soooooo...not important, but it does help. Also @blublu1029, Wear food handling gloves or powderfree exam gloves to mix in the food coloring. :)

  • how do you add food coloring without getting color on your hands??

  • Why do you use crisco? I watched another video that uses the exact same ingredients that you use except the crisco and it comes out really good. Just curious. Thanks

  • how much area does this recipe cover?

  • @AustynIsInSPACE good question (Please answer (:)

  • Comment removed

  • @AustynIsInSPACE This will be plenty to cover one 8" round and one 6" round.

  • can u add food coloring

  • so cool. i like store bought fondant but im eager to try this

  • Love This Fondant :)

  • pause the video at 9:16 hkl;'

  • I don't have one of those expensive kitchen aid mixer like the one in the video so would it be ok to just use a hand mixer??

  • @ll8419 just a tip, its better to do it by d=hand, so there's more power

  • @karinap2468 *hand

  • im trying to make a fondant covered cake for my daughters birthday and in the past years ive bought store fondant and it was horrible so im trying to make it homemade this year! HELP!

  • I tried the recipe. It was so sweet that it was disgusting and made my teeth hurt.

  • can u use a regular electric mixer

  • crisco is not important i made it without crisco and its perfect :)

  • @simirock what is crisco

  • a solid form of vegetable oil

    try google images

    its called crisco shortening

  • @simirock are you sure it tastes good without it

  • @CitrusLovesJustin yeah sure.i made 4 cakes without cirsco.try it :)

  • @simirock This is an interesting comment. Did you use the fondant immediately? What was the result when you left it sitting for some time. I don't recommend leaving the vegetable shortening out. You will lose pliability and moisture content.

  • its not a rubber spatula its a rubber scraper! ahaha, my food and nutrition class has scarred me for life...

  • I made this recipe before 2 days, step by step , really I want to say thank you very

much you have a beautiful smile oh ,,,I'm saudi but I'didn't find crisco and I used instead of it GOODY vegetable shortening عن جد هذي احلى وصفه صلحتها و جدا سهله اشكرك من الاعماق سيدتي

  • i want try to make fondant icing..but your rolled fondant is too big in this video, can you teach me as what Proportion i must make wery little fondant just for experiment

  • i never made fondant...but watching this video made it look alot easier....and it would save me alot of money!

  • Joann:

I add my thanks for posting this... and regrettably I only read all the comments AFTER my first attempt. I was a bit confused also that your recipe at your wordpress site (on 2009/01/16/) doesn't match your video. Differences include order of steps, quantities, missing steps, & some of the "grease everywhere" model another poster mentioned. Have you considered updating either or both of these to match? (especially since the recipe predates the video?)

  • This fondant thing looks rally good im going to try to make it!!!
