  • Is the song called The Sally Gardens different to this one?

  • Yes.

    Although this tune is sometimes abbreviated "Sally Gardens," the difference between "The Sally Gardens" and "Down By The Sally Gardens" is that the former is generally a reel and the latter is a slow aire.

    Thanks for watching.

    ~Megan

  • Wow man.

    Truly amazing.

    I'm doing this for choir now.

    It's so awesome.

    What's the song originate from?

    Like where from?

  • The melody is an Irish aire. The lyrics to the song were written by the Irish poet, W. B. Yeats.

    Thanks for watching and for your complementary response to Will's playing.

  • "DOWN by the salley gardens my love and I did meet;

    She passed the salley gardens with little snow-white feet.

    She bid me take love easy, as the leaves grow on the tree;

    But I, being young and foolish, with her would not agree.

    In a field by the river my love and I did stand,

    And on my leaning shoulder she laid her snow-white hand.

    She bid me take life easy, as the grass grows on the weirs;

    But I was young and foolish, and now am full of tears."
