If I remember correctly EC and Virtua Fighter were both considered for sequels by the same company but because Sega is a Japanese company (EC was made in US and VF in Japan) VF won out. Kinda sad about that, I love VF but EC may have been the better choice in the long run. :\

@stufaman Sega CD aka. Mega CD. The Genesis (Mega Drive) version came out first and didn't have as many characters or fatalities. The fatalities were also not as gory on the Genesis. Censored is not really the correct term because they added some more violent animations to the fatalities in Sega CD version, which came out a year later.
