I'm seeing a lot of D'arcy hate on these comments. She was more than a pretty face, she was the band "mother". Billy said this himself. She was his filter, she helped picked the best tracks for the albums. She has been directly tied to the fact that "Crestfallen" and "Appels + Oranjes" made it on Adore. You can tell that after he lost James and D'arcy that the band suffered tremendously. She was, in many ways, his editor and voice of reason.

But it's a stark reminder that youth fades. I'm just now realizing that at 28. Before, it simply never occurred to me. D'Arcy however was also a drug addict since at least Siamese Dreams. But when she was kicked out of the band in 1999 Billy said she was nothing but a mean spirited drug addict who refused to get help.

When they reunited in 2007 for a concert tour D'Arcy was not welcome.

She has always been nothing but a pretty face that could only play really basic bass parts. They used her image heavily for album sleeves and video's in the beginning, but she was also very uncooperative about it.

Billy stressed the fact that D'arcy and James were welcome to join, as long as it was in the spirit of making music, and that they wanted to be there. And D'arcy wasn't hard into drugs until after Mellon Collie.

I don't really agree with D'arcy being just a pretty face. I mean, yes, Billy was a better bassist than she is, but he's probably a better bassist than a lot of people.

@girlie347 I think D'arcy gets a bad time for being the 'weaker link' of the group, but part of the reason Billy said she was 'mean-spirited' was probably because he was micromanaging her and she got fed up with it. It's intimidating trying to keep up with skills like those of Billy Corgan. And I'm not saying he shouldn'tve been perfectionistic. The music would have suffered were he less dedicated.

I just don't think D'arcy deserves a bad rep. I think she did fine given her circumstances.

All these comments are largely incorrect. Yes Billy played all guitar and bass parts on the first two albums, but Jimmy always drummed. For mellon collie they used 2 rooms in the studio, so D'Arcy and James could also lay down tracks while Billy was working on guitar parts.

And yes Jimmy was a drug addict, was kicked out of the band once. But he was invited back. When SP broke up Billy immediately invited Jimmy to start another band together (Zwan)

Billy Corgan played every instrument in the Smashing Pumpkins. He also designed the cover art, acted as sound engineer, and released his music as a record label.

He never played every instruments in sp though for a while he took over the guitars and the bass during Gish and Siamese Dream but Jimmy was always the only drummer, even when he left to finally come back later and leave again in 2009 billy never took the drum spot so youre wrong

No, Jimmy had serious drug issues, thats why he got banned of the band just after the death of the ex-keyboardist Jonathan Melvoin ( both him and Jimmy had overdosed from speed balls (heroin mixed with cocaine) but Jimmy survived Jonathan died ) and after the band dissolved in 2000 that's where D'arcy started struggling with some drug issues, no I dont think Billy and James ever used drugs, maybe soft drugs as marijuana but nothing huge.
