Hockenheim, Suzuka, and Budapest did not maintain layout from 2000-2010. Hockenheim changed greatly for 02, Suzuka changed slightly for 02 and 03, and Budapest changed for 03. But maybe you already knew this.

only few new F1 cars (2010-2011) are faster than V10 F1 car because the new one has slicks, KERS, and DRS to compensate the lack of power from the V8 engine
@sniperartic - 2004 was the end of a great development war between Michelin and Bridgestone before the new regulations came in.
As a result, the tyres from 2004 (and 2006 when the regs were loosened) were ridiculously sticky, when Michelin left, massive development and expenditure wasn't necessary, and the tyres produced for 2007 were noticably slower.
Even compared to the slicks today, it could still be argued that the 2004 tyres had just as much grip.
@fisicors25 - It's impossible to account for different technical regulations, so I've off of the laptimes.
It also makes me wonder how much faster the 2010-11 cars would be if they were allowed ABS and TC. Also, the slicks aren't necessarily faster than the grooves, considering that in 2004, there was competition between manufacturers meaning they would've been developing tyres as good as possible, while in 2010, the slicks were stupidly durable suggesting they could've been a lot faster.
@FormulaOneFan4Eva I really do not agree over here, the MCLAREN Marlboro Ayrton Senna's f1 was the best, even though with low downforce, Lewis Hamilton 100 percent agreed that it is the ultimate f1 car.
@cuberkreedz - I don't care if you don't agree, the laptimes don't lie.
Senna's McLaren(s) (of which he drove 6, not just 1, so I don't know what you're on about) were nowhere near as quick as the modern cars, therefore don't qualify as the fastest F1 cars ever.
@FormulaOneFan4Eva It's because none ever compared it to the newest ones.. it has 450 hp more than a modern F1.. Modern ones have so high downforce that is just not necessary on rain.. Senna drove that Mclaren on the same setup.. but i guess its enough of arguing..
@cuberkreedz - Look mate, it's as simple as this; which is faster around a track? The F2004 or the MP4-4? The answer is obvious, and so the lack of the MP4-4 is justified for obvious reasons.
@cuberkreedz Well, the new cars are faster in the corners have more grip and have therefore faster lap times. But I think there is no way the new cars could match those turbocharged monsters in a straight line. They were reaching speeds 350km/h +
@fisicors25 yes but V8 engines are lighter what means a higher cornering speed and the cars earodynamics ar changed a lot for example f duckt etc. but the V10 are quicker at the straight
You should do a most dominant/competitive/successful F1 cars of all time video, based on how many poles, wins, points etc. Then you could include cars such as the McLaren MP4/4, Williams FW14B and obviously the Ferrari F2002 and F2004 would be in there as well. At least that way you wouldnt get so many idiots commenting thinking that is what this vid is supposed to be.
Great video mate. I'm a bit suprised that the 2010 cars made it onto the vid instead of the 2004-2005 cars etc. I would have thought for example maybe the Renault R25 would be up there, but I definetly agree the McLaren MP4-20 was a beast and Raikkonen should have won the 05 title. Perhaps even the Ferrari F2002 was quicker than some of these? Also suprised that the 2006 cars were fast enough to make it in as they only had V8s, but your the one who did the research, so well done to you.
Good video. though there is one small problem in that the 2010 cars are probably a little higher than they should be because they had minimum fuel qualifying where as the pre 2009 cars do not. This could be worth a second or two depending on the cars strategy for the race.
The Casio Triangle of Suzuka changed. Nevertheless, you compare qualifying times. You know that these are not at all comparable due to fuel loads, right? In 2004, the cars had to take the fuel for the race with them, which makes them several tenths per second (or seconds) faster. The 2004 cars will probably never be beaten, except in a few cases like Melbourne. I'm also surprised that the MP4/25 is only on 10th place. I assume you only took the times in Q1?
@WessellV1 - I took the fastest times the cars set during any qualifying session. Meaning the 2000-2005 cars had their times taken during the single session at their disposal, the 2006-2009 times were from Q2 and the 2010 times were from Q3.
I realise the 2004-5 cars ran with a short stint worth of fuel, but do you then expect me to go off of race times for the 2010 cars, that's not exactly balanced. All I can go off is the data, I can't make excuses for why one car isn't quicker than another.
I would probably swap out a car or two for the current RB7 chassy... that thing is spooky fast. (PS I hate Red Bull) The 2004 Ferrari with the Great Schumacher behind the wheel... almost unbeatable.
to be honest both hockenheim and monaco changed their layout in 03 and 02 respectively. moreover, any variation in tyre's rules affected dramatically the performance of the various cars taken into consideration. for instance, in years where only bridgestone was supplying tyres, the performances were considerably lower compared to years where 2 tyre's suppliers were competing. in 2005 the no-change-tyres rule slowed down cars by several seconds a lap. that said, i appreciate the video. nice job
Are you talking fastest or quickest? What you are not considering is that the majority of the tracks that still exist that have been used for a number of years, IE Silverstone, Imola, Monaco, Monza, Hockenheim, Nurburbring, Fuji, Ostereichring - have all been modified. You can't compare a MP4/4 to a current car either, nor can you compare the drivers of the cars to the drivers today.
@mrdannygoon - *sigh* When tracks have been modified to slow down the cars but the cars of today still lap several seconds faster than the cars of the 80s, connect the dots and conclude for yourself which are faster...
FYI, I only used one of the tracks that you mentioned to get the information from, did you read the description properly?
Okay, I'm getting sick of explaining this as people are too retarded to read the description, so I'll post it in a comment.
This video doesn't rank the most competitive F1 cars of all time, nor the greatest, most ingenious, most dominant or successful.
It clearly says in the title that these are the FASTEST F1 cars of all time, and I don't want to hear "Huuuurrrr! Wher da 88 mClaren?" anymore because, quite simply, the newer cars are faster than the older ones.
@FormulaOneFan4Eva I cant believe how many people are giving you shit for this... I prefer the old cars but the ones from 2004-2005 were the fastest... but not the most awesome... feel bad for you... (btw if you put senna in that ferrari it would probably have the record for every track in '04... XD).
What about the McLaren MP4-22 surely that has to be at least in the top 3? That car was unbelievable; lightning fast and bulletproof. Had that car had a V10 engine as the F2004 did, that would hold all the lap records. Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton turned the 2007 Monaco Grand Prix into a two horse race; Alonso finished the race 4 seconds ahead of Hamilton, who finished a further 65 seconds ahead of Massa. Everyone from 4th down was lapped by both McLarens.
3:31 "This is the fastest racing car ever built."
I beg to differ. Have a look at the Can-Am cars of 1967-1973. The 1973 Porsche 917-30 Can-Am had 1540hp in qualifying and 1100hp in the races, from it's turbocharged 5,4litre flat 12. Needless to say the torque was insane. Remember that F1 only had around 480hp at the same time, and even in IndyCar with turbo-engines at max boost they had around 700hp.
As for F1, most believe the Williams FW14B of 1992 to have the best margin to the rest.
I'm sorry but cars before 2009 didn't run on slicks, which would've given extra 2-3 seconds. Don't forget that in 2005, the cars had to use ONE single set of tyres for the WHOLE race. The F2004 and MP4-20 should rightly deserve top 2 spots.
@nachokiller666 - Generally, the newer cars were quicker than the older ones. The fastest car of the 90s, the FW14 is a few seconds per lap short of the cars on this list.
Aw cmon, We all know that the current cars are faster because of the slicks. If the 2004 cars had slicks, the lap times would have gone down about 2 seconds.
@mazarron7689futbol - As of now, on the 8 tracks the two have visited in the same configuration, each has been faster than the other 4 times, but the combined delta favours the F2004 by about 1.7 seconds.
If the RB7 goes 1.7 seconds faster than the F2004 in Interlagos, it will be officially the fastest F1 car of all time, but I doubt it.
that williams was a piece of shit for most of the season man. remove it and put the 2002 ferrari instead... there are some not so fast cars on the list like the R24 and the BAR which could be replaced for cars like the 2001 mclaren and williams, the 2003 williams, or the BRAWN
@nixxxon18 - Tell that to the laptimes. The 2004 cars were the fastest in history, so even some relatively uncompetitive ones from that year proved to be faster than some of the most dominant cars of other years.
Do a little research and you'll find the BAR 006 and the Williams FW26 were indeed faster than the F2002.
This isn't a question of dominance, or competitiveness, but simply how fast these particular cars were around a circuit, unfortunately the 9 year old F2002 doesn't cut it.
@FormulaOneFan4Eva Ok.... I thought that list was the top ten fastest compared to the opposition... I mean, that should've been criteria. This method of absolute fastest cars of 2000-2010 is pretty much reduced at the 2004 year as it was the last unlimited aero year (with the V10 also), the fastest clearly and only nowadays red bull breaks the 2004 dominance.
@larryal9 - The bus stop chicane was changed in 2004 which added about 2 or 3 seconds to the total lap time, so I didn't include lap times set at Spa in my comparisons.
@A2EReviews I would love to see an F1 driver drive and win a championship in NASCAR and in F1. I thought Kimi was gonna do it but chickened out. NASCAR with its low downforce and skinny tires makes it one of the hardest cars to drive on asphalt EVER.
@TheStockCarStig Don't get me wrong, stock cars are difficult to drive as well, but nothing can match the insanity of Formula 1. At least that's just my opinion.
Great list and most of them are truly fast cars + engines, only one car is missing in the list, where's the Ferrari F2002? This have to be one of the best cars in the last decade, even Schumacher himself says he wants to drive the F2002 again once.
@eMCeejeweet - By virtue of being 9 years old, it wasn't as quick as some of these cars in terms of outright speed. It was the fastest car of the year by far, but it's lap times have been eclipsed by probably about 2 dozen newer vehicles.
@Suprahampton - Yeah, when I crunched the numbers, the Brawn BGP 001 came out 14th. The 2009 cars in general weren't too fast, at least not compared to the '04-'06 and '10 ones.
@FormulaOneFan4Eva Wonderful to see someone who actually took time to work things out rather than just look at numbers someone else came up with. Congrats
Also, Räikkönen's loss of 2005 title wasn't completely down to MP4/20's unreliability. If I recall correctly, he's also made some mistakes which cost him like flat-spotting his tyre at Nürburgring which caused those vibrations that caused his suspension to collapse at the start of the last lap.
Love all formula cars but to me the best cars ever were pre-70's; no auto shifters, no rev limiters with guys like Clark, Hill, Rindt, Stewart and Rodriguez at the wheel. But it's all good!
@PortugalGP - Lolwut? What about the fastest lap ever around Albert Park? The fastest lap ever around the Hungaroring? The RB7 has also been quicker than the F2004 at quite a few tracks.
In 2004, Raikonnen was able to drive his Mclaren at about 370 kph on the main straight of Monza...
This year, most drivers were only capable of reaching 340 kph... for me, that's a massive letdown...
F1 is about speed, but with all these regulations (refueling ban and the future one related to 1,6 litre V6 turbo engines), F1 is just... losing its spirit...
@PortugalGP - The fastest cars in qualifying in 2005 were getting up to 362km/h, not 370+. Don't believe me? Go and look at the facts at the Official F1 Website, rather than just whipping up numbers out of thin air.
In 2011, that was reduced to 349km/h, not that much of a difference. I also love how you go off a made up number, referencing the fastest elapsed speed that never existed, and then go off an average for today.
It's called nostalgia my friend, get over your obsession with the past.
BTW, I didn't make up that number... Sergio Perez did in fact pull off 349 km/h in the main straight... but most drivers could only reach 340-345 at tops...
And the Red Bull cars didn't even reach the 340 km/h mark... about 330 km/h if I'm not mistaken...
Why are you backing up these regulations so much?
Didn't you prefer F1 without refueling bans, restricted RPM's, V10 engines, Michael Schumacher in his better days, more downforce and two tyre brand suppliers?
@PortugalGP - I was talking about the top speeds of the V10 cars, you're making up the figures.
And sure, I would prefer the 2004 regulations in SOME respects, but F1 is actually a lot more spectacular now than it was then, at least in terms of on track action.
You probably started watching F1 in 2004, meaning it was new and exciting for you, regardless of whether sport was being completely dominated by Ferrari. As I said, it's nostalgia you're suffering from, take off the rose-tinted specs.
Actually, I started watching F1 back in 1999... but whatever...
Nostalgia? It's not a matter of nostalgia, it is the fact that the FIA has been trying to make F1 cars slower and slower throughout this last decade with the introduction of performance restricting regulations every year...
I want speed, I want fast cornering cars, I want lighter cars that can actually refuel...
There is a lot more on track action nowadays, but at what cost?
@PortugalGP - If you'll have a look throughout history, the FIA slowing the cars down isn't just characteristic of this decade. Ever since the banning of ground effects, the FIA have introduced new regulations to make the sport safer, such as banning turbos, slicks, reducing the width of the cars and the capacities of the engines.
This video should explain everything: watch?v=fMMkw6RBQTI
@FormulaOneFan4Eva - About the fastest lap ever around Albert Park I would like you to remember that RB7 with Vettel did a 1:23.529 in qualy on empty tank.
F2004 with M.Schumacher did a 1:24.408 in qualy with fuel for 10-12 race laps (single-lap qualifying --> less rubber on track) AND more impressive -a 1:24.125 in the race (!) with used tires.
Same with Hungaroring. Vettel did a 1:18.7 or 1:18.8 in qualy, Schumacher 1:19.1 in race conditions.
@gianlucastallion - Hense why it's still going to be ranked #1 at the end of this year. I was merely responding to the imbeciles who claim new F1 cars aren't very quick compared to the V10s when in reality, they're starting to break records again.
FormulaOneFan4Eva bro go and see the monza lap of kimi in 2005 and he was doing 359.5 on the straight so pls see it and pls also see the reports of mclaren mercedes f1 of 2004 to 06 and u will come to know that the engines were doing 22000 rpm and next time first see it for u'r self and then question me.I HAVE seen the reports and that is why the mclaren mercedes f1 car was the best in the straight line speed and see f1.com and see the speed traps of monza and spa and u will get what i am saying
So why not to put all the championship winning cars and runner up winning cars on a same track with just todays same types of tyres and let them develop the car and see which car wins fair and square
ONE question to everone V10 at 22000 rpm produced around 970 bhp when the engine development was stopped in 2005 and 2006 and the cars were doing 370 to 380 on regulalar basis and V8 at 20000 rpm produced around 850 bhp when the engine development was stopped. see the next post.
@gauravusaf007 - The V10s never revved to anything close to 22000 RPM, it was actually around what they're limited to now. The fastest revving F1 engine of all time is 2006 Cosworth that got to a little over 20K.
The 2005 also got nowhere near 380 km/h, the actual figure was closer to 340-350.
You might want to look at Montoya's speed in one of the training sessions at Monza in 2005. I believe he broke the speed record that year with 372 km/h.
I dont understand some of the entries on this list. R24?? FW26?? huh?? LOL. They only won a race each!! Where on earth is the F2002?? Here are my top 10 cars since and including 2000 10 Ferrari F1-2000 (2000) 9 Renault R26 (2006) 8 Ferrari 248 (2006) 7 MP4-20 (2005) (would have been much higher if not for reliability) 6 Ferrari F2001 (2001) 5 Renault R25 (2005) 4 Red Bull RB6 (2010) 3 Red Bull RB7 (2011) 2 Ferrari F2004 (2004) 1 Ferrari F2002 (2002)
Do the 2011 v8s produce less than they did in 2006? I remember some of them in 2006 exceeding 20000 rpm until they were brought back down to a meagre 18000!
@MattMK45 - Not sure, it's generally accepted that the V8s have always produced approximately 750bhp, give or take about 30bhp depending upon the manufacturer. Ferrari were rumoured to produce over 800 by the end of the 2006, so I guess it's plausible.
Can someone tell me why the 2004 cars where so much faster than the prior 2003 cars? Was it because of more relaxed engine regs or more allowance for aerodynamic appendages?
@MattMK45 Its just evolving the car and improving it. The F2004 was so dominant because bridgestone produced a much better tyre than it did in 2003. This alone gave the F2004 a huge pace increase over F2003-GA.
Although the F2003-GA "only" won 8 races out of the 16 (50%), for roughly half the year it wasnt the fastest package. This was simply because the Micehlins were superior to the bridgestones and all Ferraris rivals were using them. Ferrari would have crushed the grid if it had michelins.
I am a McLaren Mercedes fan since i started watching F1 in 2001. But in my opinon the faster and most good looking car that was is Fernando Alonso's Reanult R24 :D God Vid ;)
Combine these cars, with the cars of today, add ground effects and skirts, and they will be modern day torture devices. Breaking will probably hit 7.5G's atleast, cornering will be around 6.5G's if not more. xD
To be honest, after driving both, I actually liked the F-10 drive better than the F2004. That being said, the F2004 had my highest expectations and the F-10 perhaps, the lowest. Also I still look at the F2004 as the ideal image of an F-1 racer. Awesome rides both of them. The F-10 impressed me because they had to deal with some tough new regulations (especially involving the fuel tank) that I think the engineers did a wonderful job dealing with. It's bigger, more powerful, but still handles well
@dazleeders One of those BMW-Williams had around 920 HP... don't remember i it was the ugly-nosed one or the previous one. Ralph and Montoya could win a lot more... but they were such a pair of *ssholes!
@dazleeders - Yeah, they went back to a similar design to the 2003 front wing. The problem was that the frontal area was far too high and as a result, so was the drag co-efficient.
@Marcus666Sund 2011 cars look good IMO, very stream line, 2010 cars with their shark fins looked odd. 2007 and 2008 cars looked like space ships with all the bits sticking out of them.
@angroy23 - Because the modern cars are just inherently faster around a circuit than cars from the 80s and 90s. I did briefly check the times of the older cars but they were always a few to several seconds off the quickest cars of the 2000s.
@TheSVettel - I've been having a look at some of the laptimes and the F2004 has been faster at 4 of the 7 tracks that both cars have visited in the same configuration. Even then, the 3 tracks where the RB7 has been faster, it was only by small margins.
It looked at the start of the year as if we had a new "fastest car of all time", but it doesn't look too promising.
@TheSVettel in qualifying spec, with DRS/off throttle blown diffusers/KERS etc. yes its faster (but only just), but in race spec where the lap records are set, no its no where near as fast :)
@bugsbugs42 You're right there but that is somewhat because of the varied fuel loads teams could carry up to 2009 which meant that if they were super low on fuel towards the end of a stint and fresh tyres, then they would be up to 6 seconds faster than a high fuel
The fasest circuits racing machines of all time is V10 F1 cars from 2004.That was the best lap times on same circuits of all time.Turbo F1 cars from 80 ih had a poverful engine but not such a good aerodinamics.V10 from 2004 had a wery good aerodinamic and wery powerful engine (about 900 hp) and 20 000 rpm.And they had a sound from hell :).That was a monster cars.I miss that days.

Nice..
I Don't know that i agree or dis agree..
What i wonder is as follows..
What was the most powerful engine used.
What was the Best total suspension used.
What was the Best tires ever used.
What was the best transmission used.
What was the Best downforce ever.
Now..Take the Best of all that has existed ever in formula one and from it create the mythical Best Car that ever could have been in F1
That would indeed be a Super Crazy Fast and Absurdly Great Handling F1 car !!

Smiffyalltheway 4 months ago 3
Good video. though there is one small problem in that the 2010 cars are probably a little higher than they should be because they had minimum fuel qualifying where as the pre 2009 cars do not. This could be worth a second or two depending on the cars strategy for the race.

Yes you´re right... I think the Ferrari 2004 with the driver Michael Schumacher, it was the fastest combination we ever watched in formula one
dtm123711 4 months ago 12
The Casio Triangle of Suzuka changed. Nevertheless, you compare qualifying times. You know that these are not at all comparable due to fuel loads, right? In 2004, the cars had to take the fuel for the race with them, which makes them several tenths per second (or seconds) faster. The 2004 cars will probably never be beaten, except in a few cases like Melbourne. I'm also surprised that the MP4/25 is only on 10th place. I assume you only took the times in Q1?
WessellV1 4 months ago
@WessellV1 - I took the fastest times the cars set during any qualifying session. Meaning the 2000-2005 cars had their times taken during the single session at their disposal, the 2006-2009 times were from Q2 and the 2010 times were from Q3.
I realise the 2004-5 cars ran with a short stint worth of fuel, but do you then expect me to go off of race times for the 2010 cars, that's not exactly balanced. All I can go off is the data, I can't make excuses for why one car isn't quicker than another.
FormulaOneFan4Eva 4 months ago
I would probably swap out a car or two for the current RB7 chassy... that thing is spooky fast. (PS I hate Red Bull) The 2004 Ferrari with the Great Schumacher behind the wheel... almost unbeatable.

to be honest both hockenheim and monaco changed their layout in 03 and 02 respectively. moreover, any variation in tyre's rules affected dramatically the performance of the various cars taken into consideration. for instance, in years where only bridgestone was supplying tyres, the performances were considerably lower compared to years where 2 tyre's suppliers were competing. in 2005 the no-change-tyres rule slowed down cars by several seconds a lap. that said, i appreciate the video. nice job
quandore 4 months ago
Are you talking fastest or quickest? What you are not considering is that the majority of the tracks that still exist that have been used for a number of years, IE Silverstone, Imola, Monaco, Monza, Hockenheim, Nurburbring, Fuji, Ostereichring - have all been modified. You can't compare a MP4/4 to a current car either, nor can you compare the drivers of the cars to the drivers today.
mrdannygoon 4 months ago
@mrdannygoon - *sigh* When tracks have been modified to slow down the cars but the cars of today still lap several seconds faster than the cars of the 80s, connect the dots and conclude for yourself which are faster...
FYI, I only used one of the tracks that you mentioned to get the information from, did you read the description properly?

bloodgulch1 4 months ago
Okay, I'm getting sick of explaining this as people are too retarded to read the description, so I'll post it in a comment.
This video doesn't rank the most competitive F1 cars of all time, nor the greatest, most ingenious, most dominant or successful.
It clearly says in the title that these are the FASTEST F1 cars of all time, and I don't want to hear "Huuuurrrr! Wher da 88 mClaren?" anymore because, quite simply, the newer cars are faster than the older ones.
Just enjoy the video, fuck!
FormulaOneFan4Eva 4 months ago 33
@FormulaOneFan4Eva I cant believe how many people are giving you shit for this... I prefer the old cars but the ones from 2004-2005 were the fastest... but not the most awesome... feel bad for you...

McLarenMercedes 5 months ago
@McLarenMercedes - I meant around a circuit and yes, the F2004 is definitely the fastest car of all time in that respect.
FormulaOneFan4Eva 5 months ago
I'm sorry but cars before 2009 didn't run on slicks, which would've given extra 2-3 seconds. Don't forget that in 2005, the cars had to use ONE single set of tyres for the WHOLE race. The F2004 and MP4-20 should rightly deserve top 2 spots.

nixxxon18 5 months ago
@nixxxon18 - Tell that to the laptimes. The 2004 cars were the fastest in history, so even some relatively uncompetitive ones from that year proved to be faster than some of the most dominant cars of other years.
Do a little research and you'll find the BAR 006 and the Williams FW26 were indeed faster than the F2002.
This isn't a question of dominance, or competitiveness, but simply how fast these particular cars were around a circuit, unfortunately the 9 year old F2002 doesn't cut it.
FormulaOneFan4Eva 5 months ago
@FormulaOneFan4Eva Ok.... I thought that list was the top ten fastest compared to the opposition... I mean, that should've been criteria. This method of absolute fastest cars of 2000-2010 is pretty much reduced at the 2004 year as it was the last unlimited aero year (with the V10 also), the fastest clearly and only nowadays red bull breaks the 2004 dominance.

FormulaOneFan4Eva 6 months ago 6
@FormulaOneFan4Eva
PortugalGP 6 months ago
@PortugalGP - The fastest cars in qualifying in 2005 were getting up to 362km/h, not 370+. Don't believe me? Go and look at the facts at the Official F1 Website, rather than just whipping up numbers out of thin air.
In 2011, that was reduced to 349km/h, not that much of a difference. I also love how you go off a made up number, referencing the fastest elapsed speed that never existed, and then go off an average for today.
It's called nostalgia my friend, get over your obsession with the past.
FormulaOneFan4Eva 6 months ago
@FormulaOneFan4Eva are ya kidding me? 349? i can understand 330-335, but not faster, i mean, they have 200hp less 2011!
Marcus666Sund 6 months ago
@FormulaOneFan4Eva
The bi-turbo 1.6 V6 engine thing also seems nostalgia... (because of the turbo engine era)...
Maybe you should talk to them as well... :P
PortugalGP 6 months ago
@FormulaOneFan4Eva
PortugalGP 6 months ago
@PortugalGP - I was talking about the top speeds of the V10 cars, you're making up the figures.
And sure, I would prefer the 2004 regulations in SOME respects, but F1 is actually a lot more spectacular now than it was then, at least in terms of on track action.
You probably started watching F1 in 2004, meaning it was new and exciting for you, regardless of whether sport was being completely dominated by Ferrari. As I said, it's nostalgia you're suffering from, take off the rose-tinted specs.
FormulaOneFan4Eva 6 months ago
@FormulaOneFan4Eva
PortugalGP 6 months ago
@PortugalGP - If you'll have a look throughout history, the FIA slowing the cars down isn't just characteristic of this decade. Ever since the banning of ground effects, the FIA have introduced new regulations to make the sport safer, such as banning turbos, slicks, reducing the width of the cars and the capacities of the engines.
This video should explain everything: watch?v=fMMkw6RBQTI
FormulaOneFan4Eva 5 months ago
Trust me, F2004 all-time best on 80% of tracks.
gianlucastallion 5 months ago

ONE question to everone V10 at 22000 rpm produced around 970 bhp when the engine development was stopped in 2005 and 2006 and the cars were doing 370 to 380 on regulalar basis and V8 at 20000 rpm produced around 850 bhp when the engine development was stopped. see the next post.
gauravusaf007 6 months ago
@gauravusaf007 - The V10s never revved to anything close to 22000 RPM, it was actually around what they're limited to now. The fastest revving F1 engine of all time is 2006 Cosworth that got to a little over 20K.
The 2005 also got nowhere near 380 km/h, the actual figure was closer to 340-350.

MattMK45 6 months ago
@MattMK45 - Not sure, it's generally accepted that the V8s have always produced approximately 750bhp, give or take about 30bhp depending upon the manufacturer. Ferrari were rumoured to produce over 800 by the end of the 2006, so I guess it's plausible.
FormulaOneFan4Eva 6 months ago
Can someone tell me why the 2004 cars where so much faster than the prior 2003 cars? Was it because of more relaxed engine regs or more allowance for aerodynamic appendages?
MattMK45 6 months ago
@MattMK45 Its just evolving the car and improving it. The F2004 was so dominant because bridgestone produced a much better tyre than it did in 2003. This alone gave the F2004 a huge pace increase over F2003-GA.
Although the F2003-GA "only" won 8 races out of the 16 (50%), for roughly half the year it wasnt the fastest package. This was simply because the Micehlins were superior to the bridgestones and all Ferraris rivals were using them. Ferrari would have crushed the grid if it had michelins.
