Killing a dog is far from murder. Marcus should be charged with terroristic threatening by words and conduct and reckless endangerment with a motor vehicle. Since when do you cheapen a human life to that of a dog. Shame on you.
The concept of "animal rights" is utterly ridiculous. If someone pointlessly is abusing an animal, I'll be the first to morally condemn them. But so long as the animal is their property, they should be free to do what they will with it. There is absolutely no rational basis to suggest that animals have rights. In this case, these two individuals deserve punishment because they destroyed another man's dog (and thus, violated his property rights).
And as for PeTA, I agree that it is good that they put of such a reward for the capture of these two criminals. However, their actions and their philosophy is far exceedingly anti-man, anti-life, and anti-industry. To me, having a degree of respect for PeTA just because of this singular noble action would be liking having a degree of respect for Adolf Hitler because he was nice to his dog.
I agree with oboma8. When you subordinate man's inalienable rights to his property to mythical "animal rights," you are to a degree cheapening human life.
have you not heard any of the actual recordings of the 911 tapes? have you not seen what was on national news about this? these idiots threatened to kill Marcus Luttrell. he never threatened them in any way. just chased them until law enforcement could show up. evidently you're not from texas either. down here our dogs are part of the family, and killing a dog for no reason is right up there with murder
Love your dog as much as you want, and treat it as kindly as you want. But the fact is, a dog is not a rational being and cannot by any legitimate basis be said to have "rights."

To equate the killing of a dog with murder is to downplay the seriousness of murder.
