And why compare it with Avatar? Avatar is a different story entirely, made with a huge budget and for a difference audience.
I would prefer wtaching this movie than watching all those same old masala flicks that are really poor in script and screenplay alike. To appreciate AO, you need to understand the story. Once you do, you will love this film.

@skysboom3 nah ... the followers of lord Rama are Aryans (north Indians) and at that time Tamils were mostly saivites, followers of lord Shiva ... i didn't see the movie dasavataram, i guess it could have depiced the fight between Aryans and Dravidians.

Even the ancient Tamil that these people say is sweet to hear is offensive and vulgar, and the only song that seems the theme song "thai thindra manne" of this film does not correlate with the activities of the king, he seems to plead self-pity, but his activities does not make him capable of pity at all, what is the point in showing your king to be a villain, what is there to be proud of a villain, no matter how anxious you are to see your king on the screen with its rich culture!!!!

The first half is actually very good. A very novel attempt by Selva and nice visuals. However, as a tamilian proud of my ancestors, I can't accept the portrayal of the descendants of the great Chozhas as cannibals. Yes, I understand that Selva gives a disclaimer at the beginning but still. It is disconcerting to even imagine that the descendants of Karikalan, who built a stone dam as early as the 2nd century, would live such a life. Karthi was amazing and GVP's music was very good.

2. Plot twists not really obvious. Lacking logical reasoning in story line. Unnecessary characters.Chandramouli serves no purpose until the end. He might as well be dead from the first scene.
3. Bad acting espicially when they meet the savages as they land on the island , the fearful portrayal is not real or sufficient. Ravi should have been played by a versatile actor.
4 Karthiks look should have been more brazen and lesser hair on the head and less facial hair that grows along with the movie.
Before i make any critical remarks let me say the people who made this movie have done one helluva job and this is how tamil/indian cinemas need to be in the future more sci-fi/fantasy with real characters. Theres a lot of Indian that could be made in sci-fi/fantasy ... and this movie even though lacking in many aspects has the soul of a real director/ artist.

The climax gives us a hint that the war in srilanka is not over and the prince will come back and lead the war with josh..

the first half where the red Indians attacked and how the brave red Indians attacked still their last breath are splendid depiction of Tamils who fought in the war against srilankan army without back footing...

Good effort but a movie without a plot.The first half was filled with adventure and comedy- special credits should be given to Karthi and Reema Sen.The second half is when the movie goes out of plot.The ancient tamil that is used in the second half keeps the audience wondering whats going on. 2/5 stars.However, kudos to selvaraghavan for coming up with such an interesting genre.Other dirctors should be inspired by him and experiment on other new genre instead of doing the same old masala flicks.

Even the ancient Tamil that these people say is sweet to hear is offensive and vulgar, and the only song that seems the theme song "thai thindra manne" of this film does not correlate with the activities of the king, he seems to plead self-pity, but his activities does not make him capable of pity at all, what is the point in showing your king to be a villain, what is there to be proud of a villain, no matter how anxious you are to see your king on the screen with its rich culture!!!!

Avatar hollywood or not, CG or not, was done so that as a family people can go and watch, and that is the theme they focus on, they make dark, sinister/vampire/psycho films only for a particular audience, and they do not expect to receive a wide audience for such films nor praises or good reviews, so when you want your industry to be compared to hollywood, at least follow the basic rules, and the see what category they fall into!!!

I personally liked the movie a lot cos it was much different from the usual trash that Kollywood directors unleash at fans.
Vettaikaran(Paithiyakaran s a more appropriate title), Aegan,Kuselan et al.
Liked AO after watching it a second time. during 1st watch, didn't like 2nd half much. during 2nd watch, it was awesome. it had my eyes glued to the screen

Fine performances and a decent screenplay made Kadha Parayumbol a mass hit.

The first half is actually very good. A very novel attempt by Selva and nice visuals. However, as a tamilian proud of my ancestors, I can't accept the portrayal of the descendants of the great Chozhas as cannibals. Yes, I understand that Selva gives a disclaimer at the beginning but still. It is disconcerting to even imagine that the descendants of Karikalan, who built a stone dam as early as the 2nd century, would live such a life. Karthi was amazing and GVP's music was very good.

2. Plot twists not really obvious. Lacking logical reasoning in story line. Unnecessary characters.Chandramouli serves no purpose until the end. He might as well be dead from the first scene.
3. Bad acting espicially when they meet the savages as they land on the island , the fearful portrayal is not real or sufficient. Ravi should have been played by a versatile actor.
4 Karthiks look should have been more brazen and lesser hair on the head and less facial hair that grows along with the movie.

Before i make any critical remarks let me say the people who made this movie have done one helluva job and this is how tamil/indian cinemas need to be in the future more sci-fi/fantasy with real characters. Theres a lot of Indian that could be made in sci-fi/fantasy ... and this movie even though lacking in many aspects has the soul of a real director/ artist.

The climax gives us a hint that the war in srilanka is not over and the prince will come back and lead the war with josh..

Good effort but a movie without a plot.The first half was filled with adventure and comedy- special credits should be given to Karthi and Reema Sen.The second half is when the movie goes out of plot.The ancient tamil that is used in the second half keeps the audience wondering whats going on. 2/5 stars.However, kudos to selvaraghavan for coming up with such an interesting genre.Other dirctors should be inspired by him and experiment on other new genre instead of doing the same old masala flicks.

Truly an amazing movie! I loved the movie from first half to second half. First is very adventurous and fun then second half is totally different as they enter the kingdom, it is more violent but still entertaining, Selvaraghavan you are a GENIUS! Thank you for bringing such a movie to tamil cinema when only we see masala movies.

people go and watch the movie its awesome..hats of to selva a great movie which gives u an idea of wat our ancestors where..great movie(impotant advice plz brush up your tamil skills and go or else ur just not goin to get the story at all).i would surly give it 4stars.(i did not speak on actor bcoz there where no actors in the movie they looked as if they where real people)

u've seen very few trailers i think.... but yea, it was kinda good... but certain things (like the war scene where ppl with guns go so close range to ppl with swords) were very disappointing...
