I am visually impaired and I am thinking about getting this e-reader soon. I have question: In case of PDF files, does the 'zoom' function work the same way as the e-book?
When I look at your review, I find the page flickering annoying. Is that annoying to you in real life? Particularly when you try to flick through pages fast.
How well can you write notes? Can you organize them? I am looking for an e-book reader that can double as a digital notebook. I use a college-rule notebook at work for capturing my thoughts, and it would be nice to do this in electronic form with a stylus allowing me to write instead of type.
theres no repeat for the mp3, i like to listen to music when reading on the bus, need to place long mp3 files onto the reader, dont like swapping back and forth between music and book, whenever the song stops.
I own the PRS-600. Glare is a problem. Your video shows at least three sources of light behind you. Advertising implies that glare was rendered nonexistent in this model. We can see that this isn't true.
Also, the touch response continued to be slow. Your "doodling" and failed page turns show the delay. When I use the keyboard on the 600, I am forced to look away and pray I don't mistype because the lag is horrid.
Am I missing something, or is Sony just reselling the 600 with a new home page?
Actually, I own two 950's now. They continue to have glare in some indoor situations, but it's not very common and easy to compensate for. (Any direct lighting above you will cause this). I have enjoyed my 950, which has the same screen as the 650.
Touch displays on the Sony's are still a bit slow. I take extensive notes and one cannot type fast without making mistakes. Also. note taking, as well as navigation, slows down considerably for large books (e.g. Bible). Overall, I have enjoyed the 950. Unfortunately, the Sony models are VERY pricey compared to competitors.
If someone wants a touch e-ink display, I recommend they wait until the Nook Touch comes out. It looks promising and has the right price tag.
Nice video, pal. Thanks for sharing. Just a hint: try not to leave your hand in front of the reader when showing it's functions. Sometimes we can't see what you're talking about. Also, a steady surface would improve your video (that swinging box in the backgroud drives the attention off the subject).
I wonder if i can download and install a spanish dictionary and make it work just like the preinstalled english dicitionaries do so i could search for word´s spanish meaning?
@askrates have you found out if it is possible to install other foreing dictionaries and if they will work just like those preinstalled? I mean, if once installed you can doble tap on a word (in spanish, for instance) and find out its meaning in the same lenguage..
@tormeslc no, it is not possible to install other dictionaries which sucks. However I just bought the reader and apart from that it is really, really nice. I recommend it.
Yes you can rotate the screen's orientation. You simply press the options button in the bottom right hand corner at anytime and select orientation and you can switch between a vertical and horizontal screen orientation.
The higher contrast and sharpness of the new PRS650 Reader really needs to be seen in person to be appreciated. I can guarantee you that you can bring the new Reader into any bright environment and have no issues whatsoever using it. Drop by your local SonyStyle store or Reader retailer and take a look for yourself.
@SonyConvergineer I concur. I went from the Daily Edition to this new Touch Edition and things like the glare, contrast, and touchscreen responsiveness are huge improvements. There is still some glare, but nothing like my old Daily.
@Opa2577 Try a Kindle 3 and you get the same kind of glare... because they both use the same e-ink pearl. I love the new screen and the new touch IR technology
If Sony remove the f... touch screen ( which is more IPad effect, here we read!! ) there will be a twice of battery life and there will be no glare! because the touch screen has a plastic on the top of the Sony which makes GLARE! If the sony remove the touch screen will be the best thing on the market with those dictioneris :))

According to FedEx, I'm getting mine on Friday! I'm excited but I know I'm going to miss the built in light that the PRS-700 has.
