well, actually there are prologue short movies for AC2.. I don't remember what they were called but there were 3 parts, I think and each one was like 10 mins or so..

its parcially true the older assassin's didnt have the technology capabability as Ezio Auditore had so he didnt have to cut his ring finger off every other assassin has no ring finger though

not in this game.

that was true of the character in the first Assassin's Creed game, but the writers decided to drop that idea because in this game he was two blades, so they didn't want to take both his ring fingers

@Varggorm thats not the reason its because the hidden blade were upgraded to allow no ring finger removal because it usually broke the Assassins` cover

@Varggorm The story behind it is that when Altair took over as head of the brotherhood, he made changes. Since the Assassins could no longer operate the way they had in this new "civilized", Templar-controlled world, they had to do things differently. Altair modified the Hidden Blade so that the ring finger no longer had to be removed, so that Assassins couldn't be identified by their missing finger any more.
