Did you notice that there is a big window in the centrifuge (around :29 seconds into the video)? What would happen if the centrifuge broke and the truck went through the window? What kind of engineer would design something like that?
That's just the thing - it's funny to do this in a clever satirical TV show. It's definitely another thing altogether to use exaggerated stereotypes in advertising. It's for a broader audience and is bound to offend.
I don't think it's racist. The french are stereotyped as cheese-eaters, always horny and stinky. The british with bad teeth, the Germans as nazis, the Canadians as living at the north pole saying "eh?" every other sentence, etc.
Still though, that doesn't change the fact that those commercials sucked nonetheless.
i agree, theres a line between using a stereotype as a joke for comic effect (like the simpsons) but i was just as surprised as you to see that they were doing it in a completely serious way. also with the chinese one
