You forgot the prophecies! The KJV contains prophecies which were fullfilled after they were written! You forgot the archaeololgy. I often go through struggles such as those you described. Despite not believing in Christianity I found Confessions to be very moving and introspective work that provides a new perspective to view moralistic internal conflicts from.

@qlevert Actually, your KJV has changed. It used to contain MORE books called the "apocrypha" they somehow got removed from the first KJV around the turn of the 20th century. KJV is only a TRANSLITERATION period. Greek is far more descriptive then English...

The idea actually that the fall of Constantinople sparked the Renaissance (the orthodox Church) was around in my childhood but is dismissed now. Greek converts to Islam did far more for the Sultans than those fleeing did for the West. The Renaissance starts far earlier than 1453.

It they would have written something wrong back then they would have been stoned so the old people and writings of that day had to match up. That means it fits even earlier. Dont believe Satans lies. I often go through struggles such as those you described. Despite not believing in Christianity I found Confessions to be very moving and introspective work that provides a new perspective to view moralistic internal conflicts from.

Democracy, although the word come from the ancient Greek words "Demos" (people) and "Kratos" (power), elements of this have been demontrated in various cultures throughout history. Germanic tribes practiced democracy in a gathering called the "Thing". There were also the "Sanghas" of India from around the 6th Century BCE. And the North American Iroqois also had a form of democracy as well.

(continued)...These institutions were quite specialized in some of their faculties, with the more practical of them (medicine, mathematics, astronomy etc) would be improved upon. Andwith the foundation of new colleges by secular authorities, institutions of higher learning came to drift away from their religious foundations. This almost happened in Islamic society as well, but the rise in orthodoxy within Islam, and the destruction of some renowned schools, stunted their secularism.

@Vexille1983 The fact -Moslem & Jewish society failed its scientific revolution & Christian society succeeded it & carried out that scientific revolution massively at a time when Society was Christian. Indeed only very recently can Univs like Oxbridge be seen as dechristianized &even now process is far from complete.
Atheists too often tend to speciously divide Science from Religion and chalk up Science's advances to themselves when in point of fact until recently influence was minimal.

@Vexille1983 What evidence do you have for that statement about me? My point is that broadly the Western Church encouraged the development of Science. The idea that societies may eventually reject the premises they were founded on was never in dispute. After all I am agnostic. You are desperate to find some sort of stick to beat me with and it is not working. No- not Humanity's achievements. The Western University may be a world model now but it was a Christian achievement.

And every cultured man knows the degree to which religious unorthodoxy led to the promotion of liberty. The first key freedom was the right to religious dissent. And those dissenters had a major reason for strengthening constitutional laws against despotism and authoritarianism. It is no coincidence UK and USA became democracies.

@Porphyrygrampus Yes, I know about the Ottoman Empire. I also know that the Ottoman Empire had its limitations as well. In the 1400's, it had the best trained military in Europe. But many regions held some degree of autonomy. It wasn't even strictly Turkish either. Many of the top positions were usually held by Muslim converts of Slavic, Greek, or Bulgarian origin. And there was also the Millet-system, where people of various religious backgrounds lived under their own laws....(continued).

@Vexille1983 The idea of the conscience is very much a Christian & monotheistic concept -that's why I referred to the irony of an atheist appealing to the conscience of an agnostic. Of course u follow up with further ad hominem attacks.
Furthermore yr confused accusations of hypocrisy were based on my refuting yr idea that modern Science was not a product of Christian society. Shd I have stepped over backwards to exalt Islam when u yself rightly say Islamic orthodoxy killed its advance?

@Porphyrygrampus I wasn't going to respond initially, because you have already damaged your case with your prejudiced comments. Conscience is s product of both instinct and societal conditioning. All peoples, whether Christian or not or theist or not, are endowed to some degree with a conscience.
What's also ironic is that your comment of atheists as having no conscience was itself an ad hominem.
And religious orthodoxy in general (not just Islam) is detrimental to scientific progress.

My point is - without the Western scientific revolution encouraged by the Western Churches Europe wd never have been able to defeat the Turks who had been technically superior. The original text of the New Terstament was NOT written in Greek! It was written in Thraco-Boharic (i.e. Bulgarian!). Later it was copied by Greeks and Latins. The Boharic texts contain for example the Thracian Son of God " Dionisus" (Jesus), which was omited by the hegemonic Latin/Byzantine Church. And shortly, Thracians were the 1:st Christians already from the 5000 BC, who believed in the Son of God. They introduced later in Egypt "Orphic Mystery" and gave to the Egyptians the hieroglyphs.

What this man fails to add to his hypothesis is GOD. He looks at the bible as a fabrication of mens whispers rather than the infallible Word of God which shall judge all men and has been perserved by GOD. If you leave out GOD then of course there is no Word of God Unbelievers take it upon themselves to preserve the blind and lost because those with faith are unaffected by the lies. Their efforts are futile because as many as God calls will come inspite of their lies.
