  • What "justice" did Mr. Freeze really end up getting? So tragic...

  • What an incredibly-written story. I pity Mr. Freeze. He seems so bitter and cold-hearted, but it's all because he's alone and in mourning. Truly sad.

  • Mr. Freeze is colder than a prostitutes heart :D

  • The 2nd favourite villain and saddest villain ive seen in my child hood

  • "To never again walk on a summers day with the hot wind in your face,

and a warm hand to hold."

There are many live-action, not for kids films that could never pull off a dialog this shakespearean, this touching. The real tragedy, the real emotion of this episode is something few live action movies get to, let alone new cartoon shows.

  • "Oh yes... I'd KILL for that..."

  • one of the saddest batman stories ever besides two-face

  • I think I missed this one! What I love even more about this episode, besides poor Victor Freeze, is that it has music from my favorite movie 'Edward Scissorhands'! Makes sense though, since the animated series was based on Tim Burton's Batman with the original theme by Danny Elfman. (Same guy that did the Scissorhands music)

  • @Scissorhandsx91 Oh wait.. I just realized that the guy that uploaded the video, added the music... Derp. Oh well. Good choice, then. :)

  • it was one of the best Batmans animated series for sure. :) damn good.

  • michael ansara's remarkable voice makes this ep a classic.

  • The music theme makes me cry.

  • "Here's the evidence!"

*gives it to a random broad*

    :D

  • @MarkArandjus I may be wrong, but I'm almost certain that's Summer Gleeson, the news reporter. She was in a lot of episodes, actually. Still, nice comment, I got a chuckle!

  • Just wanted to say...

Harvey's been a good goy that got messed up since the 70's I think... Nonan didn't butcher anything.

  • His voice is so amazing O_O

  • Nice fan made tribute, but the watermark ruins the mood. Plus it isn't even yours, aside from the remix.

  • I heard this episode won an emmy, is it true?

  • @FreeButtSex yup yup. It got an Emmy win for Outstanding Writing in an Animated Program

  • When they make new batman movies in 20 or 30 years from now, they really should come back to this version of Mr. Freeze. Out of all the Batman villains in the show, the 2 villains who had the most touching and sympathetic stories were Two Face and Freeze. I really want to see this backstory done on the silver screen properly (rather than people remembering Mr. Freeze for Arnold's monstrosity)

  • 18 people's Death is COLD

  • Best Line: "Think of it, Batman: to never again walk on a summer's day with the hot wind in your face and a warm hand to told. Oh yes, I'd kill for that."

Paul Dini's Emmy win for Outstanding Writing in an Animated Program was well-deserved!

  • @rioslakerfan123 Agreed. It works on two levels. It shows how Freeze is fooling himself when he claims to be emotionless. It also lets the audience know that despite his M.O., Freeze mourns the lose of the "warmer" things of life.

  • They give Mr. Freeze a cell with a huge barred window? Lol and how does he survive being exposed like that? Still, I wish the show were on today. It was one of the best cartoons ever. The animation style was great, the villains were all developed well, and the storylines were dark enough. Batman and The Joker were awesome too.

  • @FilmCreatureCom

Maybe we couldn't see the glass?

  • I heard a recording of Robert Frost reading Fire and Ice when I was a kid. The similarities are uncanny. I'd love to find another recording nowadays to compare.

  • how could the movie get it so wrong

  • @Entertainedtodeath

    Becaus Ahnold.

  • @Entertainedtodeath Over-bloated budget, shitty director, shitty writers and careless producers.

  • thank you for this

  • I remember seeing this episode when it debuted in 92...this series' portrayal of Mr. Freeze instantly made him my favorite Batman villain.

  • Best of all Batman eps.

  • Someplace... Where a warm hand waits for mind...

  • So sad, I cried at the end. :'(

  • @camilleshs Me too

  • two-face and Mr. freeze are sort of one and the same in terms of origin

  • @godtalk101 dude....chemicals+guy is the origin of many

  • I humbly disagree, though. Freeze, like Dent and Bruce, is a victim burdened with the weight of despair and revenge. Whenever Batman looks at Mr. Freeze, he will remember his parents, dead in that dark alley. He'll remember Rachel Dawes. But most of all, he'll remember Harvey Dent, laying dead and unblinking on the ground after cruel fate had it's way with him. And Bruce will be forced to see, in the icy mirror of Freeze's glass helmet, his own rage. His own helplessness.

  • Mr. Freeze character in the Batman Animated Series did very well, not like Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin with ice puns and cheesy comedic lines.

  • My last name is Freeze...to share the same ego as such a beautifully tragic villain...is an honor.

  • @Zuyuri That's badass, get some red contacts and wear blue all the time to complete the affect.

  • @codafett Blue is one of my favorite colors, so that's checked. should I talk with a Russian robot voice, too XD?

  • this is a cool video but you really need to lay off the overlays and ads.

  • I have a sudden urge to eat ice cream....?!

  • One of the best episodes of any show ever.

    So tragic and compelling.

Even as a kid, my heart wept for Victor and the terrible path he been set upon.

  • 18 people can never again walk on a warm summer's day, with a hot wind in their face and a warm hand to hold...

  • sleep well my love the monster that took you away from me will learn that revenge is a dish best serve cold epic villany line ever

  • Makes you wonder this question: Why did Victor work for Gothcorp instead of Wayne enterprises & explained to Bruce about the situation?.

  • @23456789Alexis Boyle promoted Gothcorp as an open, reliable, "family" company, an image that probably appealed to the emotional Mr. Freis, though it was but a facade. Bruce in contrast allowed the world to see him as the irresponsible, aloof billionaire playboy, an image which unfortunately came to be associated with his company as well. Freis most likely fell victim to misjudgement, and after Wayne Enterprise's saving his wife in Subzero, himself wonders what could have been.

  • I like how in Arkham City they made Mr. Freeze sound similar to this one.

  • What would have made it more intense after Boyle's begging would be replacing Freeze's next line with "I begged" emphasizing the "I" and then going into the Nora nightmares.

  • People, seperate comic books from t.v. shows from movies and movies from video games, the directors and writers always do.

  • Mr Freeze , one of the best villains ever made..

  • All these videos people have posted, and no one has posted the actual episode???

  • This was not the comic book story and that is a good thing because it is way more awesome it is used in arkham city and everything else with freeze in it

  • Very well done -- only one complaint, and a slight idea:

Complaint: no fade out to the video, the music abroptly ends.

Slight idea: At the end after his speech of failing, a breif still of the broken doll figure on the floor from "Deep Freeze" could have been used to symbolize lose and failure.

  • Does anyone know the name of this music?

  • Freeze was my favorite character in batman. He's just a great character.

  • Ansara's voice is absolutely beautiful.

  • I liked him as Mr. Freeze but without the ice puns

  • Firstly, Freeze, done right, would be a fantastic movie villain. Forget Schwarzeneggar and ice puns.

Secondly, how can you say that the Nolan movies suck? They're different, but they're also brilliant!

  • mr. freeze was easily the most irritating villain to fight in arkham city. and i hate joker for murdering talia al ghul that bastard!!!

  • @havik206 YOU BASTARD! YOU SPOILED THE GAME FOR ME!

  • @TPDManiacXC626 oh shit sry bro

  • Edward Scissorhands soundtrack!? How fitting :O

  • Actually Harvey Dent was the tragic villain archetype before Freeze was created. I don't see how the Dark Knight butchered that.

  • @droge085 the differance wasn't what they were, but what made then that way.

mr. freeze was always driven to this by the loss of nora.

Dent was driven to madness by the notion that nothing we can do can change the world.

thats how mr. Freeze is like batman, they're both driven by loss and the hope to change, where as Dent is merely "going through the motions" as he sees it.

  • @droge085 Well they got Two Face right but they did not give him enough screen time...seriously it would have been a better idea to have two face the main villian in Dark Knight Rises. But I do think Mr. Freeze is the most tragic batman villian.

  • @cjcool91 Mr. Freeze actually started as a gag villain in the 50s. It wasn't until the animated series that he was taken seriously.

  • @droge085 yeah ofcoarse I already knew that Im just saying I think Mr. Freeze is more tragic than Two Face. Just throwing this out there but Mr. Freeze and Two Face are my favourate batman villians. which is why I think Two Face needed more screentime in Dark Knight or be the main villian in Dark Knight Rises. As for Arnolds Mr. Freeze well he was just plain silly but I think arnold could have played a serious Mr. freeze.

  • @cjcool91 Hmm...I don't quite agree with all that though I do somewhat wish I could have had more Eckhart's Two Face.

  • ...Looking back, this was about as in depth of a show to be something meant for adults... Good ol' days...

  • Playing Arkham City brought back some good memories of this show

  • nailed mr freeze's role very well. freeze is calm, cold and emotionless. there shouldn't have any happy or positive emotions, no laughs. schwazeneggar could've been better as freeze if he acted the way he did in the terminator

  • My favorite batman villain, after Mark Hamil's Joker.

  • Man, this music is like straight out of Edward Scissorhands.

  • @Goatmon Yeah, but it does fit.

  • Friend: What Batman villain would you be?

    Me: Freeze.

Friend: what, have the frost gun and everything.

Me: Oh yes, I'd kill for that..

But honestly, this series was great for the franchise for so many villains.

  • I like his voice outside the suit his suit voice is cool ( no pun intended) but it's a good natural voice

  • I love that pretty much everything good about Mr. Freeze came from the TV series :P Even his name came from the 60's series, before which he was "Mr. Zero"

  • I wish they went with Mr Freeze for their last Nolan Movie. No offense to Bane and Catwoman Fans but this would have been perfect for a Nolan Batman Movie

  • @xStrykerJ maybe with a director like tim burton, but chris nolan????? thats kind of....impossible

  • @xStrykerJ

bane looks small and unimposing and catwoman? teen eye candy with that lame costume. F nolan

  • Watching this makes me hate Joel Schumacher even more for Batman And Robin. How could someone screw up a story like this?!

  • @dlausactor6373 simple he turned Batman into the campy style it was back in the 60s.

  • i came here for 4:34

  • The best episode to the best animated super hero show ever done. Thankfully WB had the sense to release the series on DVD.

  • I remember watching this episode when I was a kid. To this day, this episode has some of the best dialogue and writing I've ever heard in any TV show or movie I've seen.

  • 18 people's emotions have been frozen dead inside them...

  • @gondra13 yay.

  • Kid's shows know are about relationships.

  • Whenever I think of Batman the Animated Series, I think of this episode. It has a story that still resonates with me over 15 years later.

  • After seeing this amazing episode, it's hard to believe Mr. Freeze started off as a forgettable C-list villain. TAS elevated him to A-lister with this amazing reconstruction of the character.

  • btw Ferris Boyle was Mark Hamill (Guy sure had a knack for playing the villain eh?)

  • Wow, the voice actor of Mr. Freeze will be 90 years old next year.

  • if Michael Ansara didn't voice Mr Freeze in Arkham City, then who did?

  • @boredstudent Maurice LaMarche. An amazing veteran voice actor. Kiff in Futurama and Brain in Pinky and the Brain. Does an amazing job.

  • @voidmaster45 oh I know. his portrayal of Mr. Freeze is amazing

  • Is that the "Edward Scissorhands" theme song occasionally playing throughout this video? If so, good choice for a video about Mr. Freeze, one of my favorite and most sympathetic villains of Batman.

  • who wouldn't try to do the same-thing Mr Freeze was trying to do?

  • 3:57 so sad

  • anybody knows the music playing after the first loop?

  • This right here is why Batman: TAS is the greatest cartoon of all time.

  • One of the most heartbreaking endings and episodes I've ever seen.

  • This episode was one of the best i've seen. Where can I find the theme from the beggining of the video?

  • Uh DARK KNIGHT didnt steal the tragic villain with complicated past that's been around for centuries.

  • I won't lie, the end of this video choked me up. What a fantastic character!

  • i remeber watching this as a kid

  • 00:14...THIS IS SPARTA!!!

  • 4:08 C'mon batman, get with it, we have DVDs now. GAWD!

  • Nolan should have done a mr. Freeze movie. Bane is cool and all - but Freeze has been given no justice from schumachaer*

  • I love mr freeze's voice it is so cool

  • I dont care what they say... Batman the animated series is the BEST ever. the voices and acting will never be replaced!

  • I WAS FROZEN TODAY!

  • Thanks vor the vid. I loved so much the series.

  • "To never again walk on a summers day with a hot wind in your face, and a warm hand to hold. Id kill for that"

  • This Mr. Freeze, along with the rest of Batman TAS for that matter, is fantastic. His backstory is tragic and he is compelling at the same time. Unfortunately, the comic Mr. Freeze is an overrated one trick pony. If he could be more like this Freeze that would be great.

  • Michael Ansara >>>>>>> Arnold Schwarzenegger

  • @LordMortis315 You should hear Maurice LaMarche as Mr. Freeze.

  • @Ironbat92 I did! He was awesome! I think I like him more than Ansara. =)

  • im not ashamed to admit that i kind of cried for mr freeze in the series because they played him out to be tragic man who lost everything. its kind of the opposite of batman and yet they are the same.

  • Mr Freeze is the second best villian that speaks through a voice box....the first being Darth Vader.

  • very beautiful vid put together. Mr Freeze puts his words in such a poetic way!!

  • Batman's a total super hero, he doesn't even kill and gets the job done and doesn't afraid of anything.

  • I'm so glad this was the cartoon I grew up on. Powerful, mature and dark.

  • Where is that episode where Mr Freeze goes to Rapture?

  • the song jar of hearts by lovestrong would be perfect in this video

  • At :52 The Edward Scissorhands Theme starts playing.

  • poor freeze :_

  • Those lines...like NC said. They pretty much write themselves. My favorite villain after seeing this episode (which was my first viewing of Mr Freeze back then).

The style and feel of this series really influenced some of my behavior and style (like my fidora and coat...along with the tommy gun 'n stuff).

  • 3:58 so sad

  • Who else remembers when kid's cartoons were allowed to deal with death, revenge, loss of humanity and the effects of grief on a human mind? Yeah, I miss the good ol' days.

  • @CapnMarvel22

Yeah, now they over simplify things in order to make the next generations increasingly dumber and thus make everyone into a single mass of idiots that is easy and convenient to control. That's the current world order.

  • @CapnMarvel22

Actually, their purpose is not to make the next generations dumber, since intelligence is a genetic thing and intellectual capacity doesn't really increase or decrease over time. But through what they're doing, they're trying to decrease people's willpower and desire to improve and progress over a certain level, a level that they are trying to reduce as much as possible in order to make manipulation of the masses that much easier.

  • @slapsus

    who are "they"?

  • @Ofir84

    the current world order

  • @CapnMarvel22

Avatar - The last Airbender also deals with mature themes

  • @Ofir84 True enough, but can you honestly say they're as well dealt with as they were in TAS? Hell, even abusive relationships, racial prejudice and insanity are dealt with on a level that would put most adult shows to shame.

  • @CapnMarvel22 Are you kidding? Late 80s/early 90s cartoons weren't allowed to even use the word 'kill' any more than a few times per series. They had to find synonyms for kill that rarely sounded threatening at all. And Batman was one of the only cartoons that dealt with such dark subject matter. Other cartoons of the time were nowhere near as deep...

  • I am an emotionless fuck, oh yes I am. Yet, I get tears to my eyes when I see the sorrow of Mr Freeze. He is and will always be the only human(even though he is a cartoon) I will ever feel compassion towards.

  • This is all so heart breaking. But does anyone have a place to buy/download the music used in this episode? It's not on the OST.

  • wow.......thats really sad...i mean he did not want to destroy the world or take over it .....he just wanted to right the wrong that others have caused him.....batman and robin made him look like shithead.....they turned such a well made batman villain into some peice of trash everyday badguy......sad

  • This video is amazing. And the music you used is beautiful. It sounds so familiar; could anyone tell me what its called? Thanks!

  • I absolutley love Mr.Freeze's voice. He's my favorite Batman villan. He has no love, sympathy, or compassion for anyone else except, his beloved Nora. If anyone stands in his way, GAME OVER. You know this guy's serious when he explains to Batman: "To never again walk on the summer day with a hot wind on your face, and a warm hand to hold...ahh...yes...I'd kill for that..."

  • @viciousclan I totally agree. He does show some compassion in a few of his later appearances though -- he helps Batman save a city full of strangers in the sequel episode to this one.

  • Just realized Batman is such a hippocrite... what happened to "I am Vengeance!" No justice... wtf batman being a dick and stealing Victor's closure...

  • @Helionova15 Video tape evidence = vengeance. Murder is intolerable even for Batman, who had a chance to kill his parents' murderer. No hypocrisy here.

  • @jp3813 He should have said no this isnt vengeance instead of "no... justice derp" then XD see ur point tho batman was a noob in tas

  • @Helionova15 But that wasn't my point. The video tape evidence is justice to Batman's point-of-view and vengeance in Freeze's. But the latter still wanted to take a life. Even Batman chose not to do that to his parents' murderer.

  • @jp3813 w/e

  • He should have been more careful...

  • did anyone notice that Mr. Freeze is wearing Batman's utility belt like a sash for like 2/5ths of this video?

  • Why is Mr Freeze in Arkham Asylum? He isn't insane...

  • @TheMichaelThonger In another episode, it was revealed that Arkham is where you take sick and injured bad guys (kind of like how Bellevue is in our world). He's not insane but because of his medical condition he needs special equipment to stay alive (his cell has to be kept below zero degrees Fahrenheit at all times, which would be difficult to maintain in a regular prison).

  • @Horticultural1 Oh right. Interesting...

  • I take it that Schumacher didn't even bother watching this episode. Such a poetic character reduced to just speaking in ice puns by Schwarzenegger. One of the most idiotic decisions in film history.

  • @jp3813 He had to be aware of it, since he stole the whole "Nora Frieze" thing from it.

  • @Horticultural1 I think the comic books adapted that idea as well. So he could've gotten it from there.

  • "Think of it Batman. To never again walk on a summer's day with a hot wind in your face and a warm hand to hold. Oh yes, I'd KILL for that"

I just cant help but be sympathetic towards Mr. Freeze. You can really the anger he has even though he became emotionless. His story is one of the more tragic in the series which makes it one of the best episodes.

  • The end of this is just so touching, as is the entire episode! God I loved this series, what happened to good cartoons?!

  • i want that voice effect for any character wearing a mask or respirator in any video game

  • My god Mr Freeze's voice is so awesome!

  • We are all Emotional to mr Freeze since this i think the moral is about Revange and loss.

And yes we couldve had someone to play mr Frezze like him exept for Anorld.

  • This is a perfect example of why TAS is and always will be the greatest non comic book adaptation of Batman; how I wish someone would syndicate it and bring it back to TV

  • mr. freeze was never really a bad guy.. he truly has good motive for his actions

  • @highestpower999 First degree murder is pretty bad. Well, attempted murder, since this is a kid's show, but that's splitting hairs.

  • @endersgame55 plus, since he froze the doors and windows to that building at the end, he would have killed everyone else in the room, too (slowly and painfully from hypothermia). That's pretty bad, even if you don't count what happened to Boyle.

  • Comment removed

  • Poor Mr. Freeze =(

  • A mans heart is cold without a womans love to warm it up

  • does anyone think that his speech at 4:33

kinda sounds like the one from the end of portal 2

  • I love the speech that Mr. Freeze does at 2:31 - 2:45

You can literally feel his pain and agony when he says it. And the last line of it, he says it with such determination and vengeful.

Like everyone here, you feel really sorry for Mr. Freeze.

  • you can actually feel sorry for this mr. freeze compared to the other one...

  • Have you guy's seem him in Batman Arkham City? He looks like a fucking badass! They even got the voice actor from this show!

  • @junkers1337 They got a soundalike voice actor for Arkham City.

  • Does anyone by know the name, or where I can find the song that plays at the start of the video?

  • @ internetthemepark Love this vid, but I do have to mention something. While you are more than entitled to your opinion regarding the Christopher Nolan films, I feel the need to point out that they did not steal the "bad guy who's not really all that bad, just heartbroken and a bit unstable after an attack/accident combo that both killed his love and left him disfigured" aspect. That was already blatantly in the comics. Its one of the core themes of the character for God's sake!

  • This Freeze almost sounds like Pinhead. Or am I the only one who sees the resemblance?
