This of course is their first TV appearance on Tony Wilson's show. In the movie Control, when they recreated this moment, they had them playing Transmission for some reason...creative license?...I don't know but hardly factual considering the film was based upon Dedorah Curtiss's book.

Not that it's not, overall--but, comparitively, this version is much sadder and renders itself too easily to being "dark". The mind and feelings of Curtis are too dark for others to really tap into. Come on, man. You will get my thumbs down.
Curtis's delivery and baritone reminds me of Jim Morrison. Looking at this clip, I can only think about how big JD would have become if Ian had lived to record 'Blue Monday'. If he found the modest fame the band had achieved by his death hard to handle, international stardom would have crushed him. A fragile genius.
I could never like or really appreciate New Order...when my friends were jumping up in the clubs to dance to them i just couldn't stop thinking about Ian.
I know I feel the same way about New Order...the first time i heard them was on the tape Lowlife, and face up was the first song. when he sang "dieing in a lonely place" i almost cried. it made me think of Ian's song "in a lonely place" and i wished he could have had some of the hope shown in "face up"
