There's another way to play this game for the current generation as well.

This works on Japanese 60gb PS3s, American PS3s (60gb and early 80gb models) and even PAL 60gb PS3s. If you're on firmware 3.55 you are in luck to play this game (only works on 3.55). Grab yourself a Cobra USB dongle, install Cobra CFW 3.55, update the dongle firmware, grab the game, copy it into ISO/Bin+cue format and play away.

This plays FLAWLESSLY, it's in HD/widescreen AND with extra smoothing from the PS3.

Why are so many people thinking Sega Rally was a PSOne game on here? It was a Sega arcade racer that was later ported to the Sega Saturn. This is a port of that Saturn game, upscaled, and added to the Sega Rally 2006 package for PS2 as a bonus. The game looks how it does because it's a port of the old Saturn game.

@Suplexmachine Nope, this isn't a port of the Saturn at all, if it were, half the scenery would be missing. It's actually a port of the actual arcade rom onto PS2 with added menus ect. If you're still not sure search Sega Rally Arcade on here and you'll see it's exactly the same as that.

@Xeauron You're right it is a port of the arcade version. However, it looks to me like most of the scenery is intact from the Saturn version (which I've owned since it was released). Saying "half the scenery would be missing" is a bit excessive. I just thought maybe they took the Saturn version and upgraded all of the textures, while upgrading a small amount of the geometry in the models, that's all. It's the arcade version though.

@Suplexmachine Well the reason I say this is that the Saturn version was missing some of the 3D scenery at the side of the track which is most noticeable on the Mountain Stage near the start, where there's a castle on the right in the arcade, there's just a 2D picture of it in the background - the 3D model is completely missing meaning you can see 'sky' through the gap between the wall and the castle in the floor giving the strange floating track effect people commented on back in the day.

@Xeauron I hear ya. I thought you were talking about elements completely missing altogether. Yeah some of the 3D models (especially in Mountain stage as you mentioned) are 2D on Saturn. Looks like the floating trees made it into all version though lol

@MrSaturn33 it really depends what ps2 you have.slim you could order a magic switch and a swap magic boot disc so you could just burn your games to dvd.if u have a fat, thats even better.just rip off the tray door and use the slide tool trick(search youtube) to swap your disc.the only mandotory item is swap magic

Had a copy of Sega Rally Championship on the PC had lot of with it, warout the excelerator & my first force-feedback wheel(was a Logitech). I still play it about every time I have to up-grade my PC. this game & the cockpit Arcade version are the pinnacle core to what makes a "Fun Racing Game".

This version is MASSIVELY different to the saturn release. It's just the one lap championship and the practice mode. The handling is wierd aswell.

WTF seriously DO NOT buy a japanese PS2, a modchip lets you play NTSC, PAL and japanese games on only one PS2, and costs about 10$.

these games are awesome, but dont waste your money for a second PS2, lol.

PLUS that with a modchip you can also play european games, which you cant do with a US or JAP PS2
