Every summer i have to go to my fathers house in Virginia, and the weekly test where he is, is at 3:15am every wednesday night! And i leave the TV on in my room so it scares me every week!
It was midnight and I was putting my dog in her cage and then I heard this and when I heard it I ran like hell in my room cuz it was dark. Ah, the good ol' days xD
Judging by the audio (I heard the same exact thing when it ran on my end), this didn't over very well... I have a gut feeling they're going to try this again in the relatively near future.
It would be col if someone didnt know about the test and right when the dude turnred the tv on the test tunred in... Hed be freaking out when he saw "EMERGENCY ACTION NOTIFICATION"
thanks for showing us that alert system test, i did not get to see it because i was at work, it did not come over the loudspeakers in the grocery store,
at exactly 1pm texas time it was playing a song, i was dissappointed,
our store gets the music with a satellite dish on the roof, thanks again i appreciated seeing this ,
you know with all the earthquakes and disasters maybe they are just preparing for something in case something happens probably nothing to worry about.
@ASKconard I am lead to believe that a "primary entry point" is the radio station that the cable system/television station has their EAS box tuned to. It could be a local news station or a "squawk channel" provided by National Public Radio. Of course I am not in the broadcasting business and just reading what I have read from the internet, so perhaps someone could correct me if I am wrong.
@singinglawnchair I work with the fed government and your correct. A Primary Entry Point (PEP) station is a radio broadcast station designated to provide public information following national and local emergencies where there is no commercial power. These stations have protected, government-funded circuits connecting them to emergency command centers.
"The nations were angry; and your wrath has come. The time has come for judging the dead, and for rewarding your servants the prophets and your saints and those who reverence your name, both small and great--and for destroying those who destroy the earth." Revelations, 11:18.
This isn't the test I saw on cable. It flashed for about 10 seconds, no alert tone, no "mandatory test message" just about 10 seconds of the first part, then it said "EAS Details" and then that was it
@ChaseS08 ~ Maybe it wont mater. I had a long conversation with my friend about it. We came to the conclusion that no radio/tv station would deny instant broadcast to the President. This leaves the question; why does the government need a system that takes over everyone's radio waves and signals?

This was a failure. I'm surprised a recording of audible quality, like this one, actually existed.
In New England, it was nothing but static, with some barely audible moments in the first 5 seconds.
Feds quality at it's best.

I watched this in hope that maybe, just maybe, the sound wouldn't scare me anymore.
NOPE.

OMG that noise sounds so lame... Is it really used for emergency broadcasts int he USA?
bobri289 1 month ago
@bobri289 Yes, it has been used since 1997. The deeper tone had been used in the earlier Emergency Broadcast System since the 60's or 70's.

Why did the alert tones play twice in the background?
TheRandom8or 3 months ago
@TheRandom8or EAS failure - the EAS re-activates in the background of the live audio message and sounds like they keep playing it.

@TheRandom8or That was on most of them but it dosen't matter during a test

Primary Entry Point must be either the White House or FEMA in DC.
